I love Anthony in other countries. He is one of the few who I don't feel embarrassed seeing there representing America. He has his own views, but is open to everything while being himself.
the slurping is even emphasized the anthony himself although he has a certain appreciation for japanese culture. but i don't think a native japanese person untouched by western table etiquette would even actively notice his/her slurping when eating.
@SpartanSoldier76 this "savage" slurping is a sign of respect to the creator the meal, a sign that you are enjoying the food. Additionally, just as Tony said, adding air to the taste profile enhances the flavor significantly. Just ask some expert wine drinkers /watch?v=AK3380IZFlA 5:05 about their savage drinking ways.

Only savages still slirp and won't close their mouth's when they eat. Vietnamese/Asian person, "It's our custom and it conveys that we like the food we are eating!" Bullshit! you're just trying to cover up that you're STILL eating like a savage.
I Love Asian Food, I admire their cooking and Ingridients, but with Anthony Bourdain in the show makes look great the food and the best, he has the best on earth, I love his show(s), thank you for these one I love Travel Channel, you rock too \m/
chicken skin? chicken liver? chicken tongue? pork belly? they're just as worse as butter. Anthony should take his words back about Paula..you're both going to fat land hell lol
There is something soulful about Japanese traditions. Traditions which you know they are that way because they are sooo right. To the point it's your reaction is not just "you like" but "you love".
Utterly awesome for Anthony to showcase the Ainu and honestly portray their treatment and situation.Kudos to you for posting this too!Wonderful episode!
@ji94552 It maybe true. The Ainu's traveled as far as the south to Okinawa. So fact is the Korean, Japanese, Okinawan's are one. Celebration is in order! Aloha!
I was afraid they were going to gloss over the treatment of the Ainu and I'm glad they didn't. And on a lighter note... DAMN all that food looks good!
I used to live in Sapporo and this guy is killing me! *Whimper* I want to eat soba and Otaru uni, and Sapporo oden and have a lovely hot spring soak. waaaaaaaa
I've eaten at that soba restaurant before and it was AMAZING!!!! The environment was really pretty too. The soba was so tasty with just the right about of bite, I literally have dreams about it. I had the soba served cold but with a hot dipping sauce that's made with duck. YUM.
Wow, it's hard to believe how much of the Ainu's culture has been erased. Not only are they no longer allowed to hunt or fish, they've been assimilated to the point where they've lost their own language. At least they still have their food. Which looks very tasty.
@Sarara14 Sad but true. Many hundred years later the Ainu's also may have traveled to Okinawa in search of better life and so we Okinawan's very much look like the Ainu's. The Okinawan's also taken over by mainland Japan in the later and also look downed upon. Similar? Yes. We still got the food and the language is that still alive even in Hawaii. Peace!
@Sarara14 The Ainu "might" have traveled to Okinawa but this I still believe they have. The Okinawan's and the Ainu's are direct descendants of the Jomon People of South East Asia, Hunters, gatherers and fishermen. So this why we have similar features.
Wow, I love this show because they're always playing good tunes like the Blockhead track @ 03:30 It's funny, it's like they're taking tunes from the same pandora radio stations that I listen to ha ha. I really miss Japan. Thanks for posting this episode!
When I was in the states I watched this show religiously, but when I moved to Thailand I stopped.....thank god for youtube and thank god for you man after watching this eps. I am back and loving it more than ever!
