  • Or did u use massive simulation?

  • Did u use Rib archive to render that many particles?

  • nice, what im interested in is how long did this take to render?

  • @jolinarcze Uh, it was long time ago. Think rendering itself wasn't to slow, maybe 5-10 minutes per frame. Think simulation took around five hours, really hard to remember.

Maya's particles are single threaded. Which is shame. You can put four (in my case, I have 4 cores) Maya's simulate and cache at the same time if you have enough memory and hard disk bandwidth.

  • @jolinarcze If you want super high number of particles best way to go is krakatoa. I know max is lame, but it has really awesome plugins.

  • @Htogrom i know about krakatoa, we tried it out already in the studio, but the thing is we dont want to add another (especially Max ^^) package to our pipeline... but since there is no Realflow RenderKit for Maya 2011, we might eventually run the meshes through max just to add that little bit of extra touch... anyhow, it's a shame it took that long :) im actually at work, setting up 3Delight for shave and haircut right now.. do you maybe know a good tutorial on 3delight passes? need the shadows.

  • @jolinarcze Have you seen ones at 3delight site?

We were using 3delight on several projects, had two guys writing shaders. As I understood you create variables for passes and output it to different framebuffers you add in render globals.

  • @Htogrom yeah, that's what im doing, but i guess it's the extra stuff in between that's bumming me out... i guess it's the Shave messing everything up, though i hope im wrong ^^

i checked most of the tuts, especially the one on passes, plus some of the forums, but with no luck... well, i guess i better keep googling around if i wanna get home today, haha..

Thanks for the help tho, enjoy the rest of weekend :)

  • @jolinarcze I'm certain the guy who on that here wrote his own shader for shave. Think he had same problems with it.

  • @Htogrom that's awesome news! haha... o well, i guess i'll make a shadow pass using hair primitives with mental ray and use 3delight to only render the beauty image...

well really thanks for the help, i better get back to it :)

  • and thanks for replying so fast on such an old vid, hehe

  • Nice stuff.

  • Cool...How you do. . Tutorials give you points?

  • Now that was very nice. Have any tutorials on it?

  • watch any tutorial for Maya particles and fluids (gnomon, digital tutors)
