i'm 24 years old, a girl who wants to be a monk, and everyone around me is asking why? i tell them that i feel that i need to become a monk because is my life purpose.
@truelovewaits23 A woman cannot become a "Monk" you would need to be a "Nun."
I know how you feel, I've always wanted to be one aswell. People ask me why with a crooked smile. They make it seem as though its a bad thing, its a life choice though. If you feel that you should be one, then do it! ^_^
i liked this video. the ending was very cleverly done and brought it all together. I took many photos of monks in laos and chatted to lots. I had many similar wonderful conversations such as these.
Unless you have spent time in a temple as a novice monk, please don't comment. From my own experiences at 14 yrs.old,I spent 2 weeks in a temple.I saw monks have sex with each other and with the boys, including me.Everyday for 2 weeks.Novice monks (boys) are sex toys for older monks, that's the truth! It's time someone told the truth!
I have never been a novice monk, I'm only 14 as well, but I couldn't ignore your comment. If what you say is true, and forgive me for not being 100 percent convinced as this is the internet, then those monks definitely behaved wrongly. One of the precepts of Buddhism specifically prohibits that behavior, and with Karmic conditioning, it should be many lives before those monks become enlightened. Don't lose faith in Buddhism because of this, there is still honesty and virtue in the world.
cause if you saw the whole clip and if you can understand English and got a brain which you can think with, im sure it not would be any problems to count it out, the Budhist monk said that he liked Linkin Park (Numb)in the end of the clip...so i think it's rather obvious why the song is in this clip...
It's not about religion! It's about awakening... So many people using their ego's, think it's about following rules better than the next person... no, it's about opening up to the spirit, truth, love... happiness... enjoying life... not getting caught up in the ego, things, etc...
worng man...it is about the religon im afraid and you mean it's not hmmm...thats how the buddhist monks live...they don't own anything,no money or anything, and thats cause they live after their religon...so actually they talk about their religon and how the Buddhist monks think about money and life...
Hmmmm... I Don't know about that.. maybe in the beginning before they open up to nirvana, clarity that space... I go to temple almost every week sometimes twice a week... they listen to music, watch TV. even eat meat, chicken, fish, etc.. The rules and strict discipline are only for those who have not opened up completely... once you open up, and have reached that destination, then you know what it is, and how to get there again... It's like opening up to a deeper place...
i am looking to convert to buddhism im a hindu now so i am going to say budha is one hell of a beast and duharma is one amazing man i love him to death and sangha is my one and only hero i would cut my penis 4 him anyday

The buddhist word is love. They only began protesting because of Chinas greed and for the poor children begging for food at the monasteries. How can the Chinese military shoot at, let alone judge, these Spiritual people. It's easy for a whole government to lie about the status of war as well as "wrong doings" of a community who portrays peace, and it's unfortunate that people so easily can believe that government. Do you learn to respect my comment enough? I can say everything to against 'fake monks'. Really, if you dont like my idea or any other thailand of being so conservative, then you'd better be a monk in ur country. I think we have enough monks who always break our Buddha's teaching. Uh uh...and stay calm if you wanna be good monk ^ ^

I am Thai. in this vedio there are differents points of view from monks. in my points of view. Monk is human being. He is normal like us but he decide join buddism and practice to discover the real of life.
However, buddha teach us to be balance in living. Do not make trouble to others and try to help others if it is possible. That is enough to live in this society?
There right. And ZiuLung, why is it weird, that a buddhist monk, says that he likes Linkin Park. Monks may also listen to music and do stuff, but the matter how is important. I'm dutch and next year, I become a tempelboy and then an monk for 3 monts. It's really beautifull.
lol..If you are a monk and you become attached to Linkin park (or ANY music), I think you've missed the point somewhere. When you become a monk, you will learn this.
I'm definitely high prestige to protect my Thailand........so even if an idiot people talk about my country in the bad way as they've been there I intent to damn IT TO TO HELL AT ALL......believe me my country is very rich for culture and hosting people ok????
Thank you for this VDO . I am buddhist and i don't believe in Monks cuz they are people like you and me . But I very believe and very very respect in my Buddha cuz everything that he said that The true that People and that me too
I just got back from the land of many smiles. Thanks for your vidio.I am not Buddhist but I have respect for it.I believe very much what you give out in life comes back to you.
The bible says the worlds only going to get worse intill God feels its time to stop all the shit. I wonder if the wrolds going to keep geting worse or is it going to get better for awhile befor we destroy everything...
Thanks for this video. I also was a volunteer in Thailand.. It was wonderful to see all the monks faces again. Bpin mostly what a amazing young man.. Many Thanks
That last monk - he is talking about music, now, he didn't say he "listens" to music but... Monks are NOT supposed to listen to music, it's forbidden by the basic ten precepts (sala)...
Actually He is not jet enlightened, so he is on the way. ..give him time. To be a monk doesn't mean that he is a Budha rigth after his bow.
Also: music, or anything else. The main thing is not to grasp, to link on that. To feel with all your sences the inpermenace of music, a word, a song, your actual life.
Monks nowadays are so weak lol. :P We forget they are people just like us. :) Still, if you're going to be a monk, at least TRY to follow the rules, otherwise no point being a monk.
in the buddhist religion it doesnt say you cant listen music or watch movies. that was made up by man. the buddha never said anything like this all he preach was how to be good and understand life suffering death. he never ban people from living thier lives. its the monks now days who make up rules. buddhist isnt islam where people r ban to not do what they like.
I'm sorry friend, but your grasp on Buddhism is pretty weak. I should have to remind you that Buddha was a man, not a god. The Four Noble Truths? The Eightfold path? These are essentially rules (but you're not 'forced' to follow them) Technically listening to music is illusory and attachment. I'm not saying lay people can't do these things, but they should be aware that music is another form of attachment. It doesn't mean it's 'wrong', or that it's 'banned'. But monks live by a stricter code.
do u even know what buddha was before he was call sittata in his life time when he became buddha. buddha had 2 lives before he was sittata. if your own you should know. his 1st like he was known as pra wadsundon. then he died reborn as sumade a poor guy. then he reborn again and became sittata then he became buddha. buddha was reincarnated 3 times.
And I may be repeating myself, but the Buddha taught more than just "be good and understand life suffering and death". The second noble truth is that suffering is caused by desire. Desire comes from attachments. Desire to listen to music is an attachment. For normal people, it's a perfectly acceptable desire. For a monk, who has chosen to be "strict", it's a little different. If you disagree, then answer this question for me: what is the point of being a monk?
there alot reason to become monks. 1 some become monks for thier parents. and some become becuase to learn about the religion more. there alot reaosn why people become monks. but buddhism isnt like islam where yopur hand r tied and cant do anything. the only thing u cant do is going around lying cheating stealing having sex with boys and girls. but listening to radio whats wrong with that there not listening to sex shows.
I'm sorry friend, you are mistaken. Maybe you should join the Sangha - because you certainly need to learn about Buddhism! :P
I never said Buddhism is like Islam. But for monks, there are definite rules (hundreds of them, actually). How are you supposed to meditate and cultivate inner peace and detatchment while listening to the radio? Be clear : I'm talking about MONKS, not lay people.
those rules were made up by people themself. look at monks in korea who fight for temple and kick each others ass. and chinese monks who does kungfu and fight. japanese monks who also protest and burmanese monks who protested last year. monks sometime can't just be peaceful they r human to and if push over the limit they have the right to protest.
did i say they should protest when being a monk? all i said was buddhist monks arnt perfect. they fight argue gossip lie steal just like any other religion.
Jai yen yen noi.. Well, you said they have the right to protest, which is incorrect. They do not. Of course they're not perfect. There are monks in Sri Lanka who believe it's their right to protest violently against the government. Buddhists find this abhorrent, and disgusting, because it goes against all the teachings of the Buddha. To tolerate this degrades the Sangha. If today they can listen to music, tomorrow they be allowed to break precepts. Then what is the point of monastic life?
Lol I like you Nakorn... I am exactly the same as you.... Buddhism has its share of dogma. The good part about Buddhism is the Buddha himself encouraged you to question such dogma. There are a handful of Abbots in the world today doing precisely that - while still staying true to the Dhamma. It takes a heck of a lot of effort to let Buddhism ruin your life. Have you ever practised meditiation? Forget the precepts - everybody breaks them(!).. Just meditate and already life will be better.
Much wisdom in this vidio.I have found Thai people to be generally non judgmental of others not of there race or religion than any people I have ever met.I like Thailand very much.Spent much time there.
agreed, if you draw a big salary from your work but you don't enjoy your work then there is no happiness in your life as one spends a big portion of his time on work
Did u guys know that Buddhist monks are the happiness people on earth. A brain test were conducted (putting wires on their head) and the test went off the chart. That's how happy they are.
I know because I use to visit the Buddha temple few times every months but most of the time when they offer us nice occassions.
Did you know some monks use to be mentally disturbed before then and join for a good reason, the real pratice of the buddha state of mind and emotions?
"Did you know some monks use to be mentally disturbed before then and join for a good reason, the real pratice of the buddha state of mind and emotions?"
I can believe this Modern Psychology has taken directly from theravada (thai) Buddhism " Mindfullness meditation" (vipassana) to very good effect a psychiatric nurse collegue of mine had no idea that this originated in Buddhism... Thats too bad. Much can be learned from all forms of buddhism.
This is a fallacy. You are not allowed to join the monkhood if you are mentally disturbed, among other things. However, Vipassana certainly is very useful in helping mental illness.
Um, that wasnt the point my friend. The point is that Modern Psychology takes from buddhism in its techniques. Vapassina is available to all, not just monks. :)
I don't disagree, I just see a lot of people around here saying things like "Buddhists don't have rules". It couldn't be further from the truth. As a Buddhist who struggles with not breaking the rules on a daily basis I can tell you they have rules. The only thing is unlike other religions, we don't judge people for breaking them, even if it's wrong. :)
Okay... I admit it. Christianity is the same way.
Its nothing, just thinking.

It's really beautifull.
zeseendjes 4 years ago
lol..If you are a monk and you become attached to Linkin park (or ANY music), I think you've missed the point somewhere. When you become a monk, you will learn this.

We are all more alike than we are different. If only we could realize that before we totally destroy the world.

danvaz2007 4 years ago
That last monk - he is talking about music, now, he didn't say he "listens" to music but... Monks are NOT supposed to listen to music, it's forbidden by the basic ten precepts (sala)...
food for thought....
danvaz2007 4 years ago
Actually He is not jet enlightened, so he is on the way. ..give him time. To be a monk doesn't mean that he is a Budha rigth after his bow.
Also: music, or anything else. The main thing is not to grasp, to link on that. To feel with all your sences the inpermenace of music, a word, a song, your actual life.

Monks nowadays are so weak lol. :P We forget they are people just like us. :) Still, if you're going to be a monk, at least TRY to follow the rules, otherwise no point being a monk.
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
in the buddhist religion it doesnt say you cant listen music or watch movies. that was made up by man. the buddha never said anything like this all he preach was how to be good and understand life suffering death. he never ban people from living thier lives. its the monks now days who make up rules. buddhist isnt islam where people r ban to not do what they like.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
I'm sorry friend, but your grasp on Buddhism is pretty weak. I should have to remind you that Buddha was a man, not a god. The Four Noble Truths? The Eightfold path? These are essentially rules (but you're not 'forced' to follow them) Technically listening to music is illusory and attachment. I'm not saying lay people can't do these things, but they should be aware that music is another form of attachment. It doesn't mean it's 'wrong', or that it's 'banned'. But monks live by a stricter code.
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
do u even know what buddha was before he was call sittata in his life time when he became buddha. buddha had 2 lives before he was sittata. if your own you should know. his 1st like he was known as pra wadsundon. then he died reborn as sumade a poor guy. then he reborn again and became sittata then he became buddha. buddha was reincarnated 3 times.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
LOL.. I'm very sorry.. But if you don't understand why a monk should not listen to the radio, then I think we're done here. Peace...
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
And I may be repeating myself, but the Buddha taught more than just "be good and understand life suffering and death". The second noble truth is that suffering is caused by desire. Desire comes from attachments. Desire to listen to music is an attachment. For normal people, it's a perfectly acceptable desire. For a monk, who has chosen to be "strict", it's a little different. If you disagree, then answer this question for me: what is the point of being a monk?
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
there alot reason to become monks.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
I'm sorry friend, you are mistaken. Maybe you should join the Sangha - because you certainly need to learn about Buddhism! :P
I never said Buddhism is like Islam. But for monks, there are definite rules (hundreds of them, actually). How are you supposed to meditate and cultivate inner peace and detatchment while listening to the radio? Be clear : I'm talking about MONKS, not lay people.
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
those rules were made up by people themself. look at monks in korea who fight for temple and kick each others ass. and chinese monks who does kungfu and fight. japanese monks who also protest and burmanese monks who protested last year. monks sometime can't just be peaceful they r human to and if push over the limit they have the right to protest.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
If a monk wants to protest, he should leave the Sangha. What exactly do you think Buddhism is about?
There are many stories the Buddha told about non violence. I suggest you find them. :)
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
did i say they should protest when being a monk? all i said was buddhist monks arnt perfect. they fight argue gossip lie steal just like any other religion.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
Jai yen yen noi.. Well, you said they have the right to protest, which is incorrect. They do not. Of course they're not perfect. There are monks in Sri Lanka who believe it's their right to protest violently against the government. Buddhists find this abhorrent, and disgusting, because it goes against all the teachings of the Buddha. To tolerate this degrades the Sangha. If today they can listen to music, tomorrow they be allowed to break precepts. Then what is the point of monastic life?
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
well thats life. and religion isnt perfect...i am some what an atheist sometime a buddhist. but then i wont allow a religion to run my life.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
Lol I like you Nakorn... I am exactly the same as you.... Buddhism has its share of dogma. The good part about Buddhism is the Buddha himself encouraged you to question such dogma. There are a handful of Abbots in the world today doing precisely that - while still staying true to the Dhamma. It takes a heck of a lot of effort to let Buddhism ruin your life. Have you ever practised meditiation? Forget the precepts - everybody breaks them(!).. Just meditate and already life will be better.
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
hmm. r u lao thai or khmer by any chance? no i dont meditate and yes i love buddha and his teaching but its just some monks you ruins it for others.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
To be more precise, how should a monk cultivate Samadhi while listening to the radio? From the eightfold path : "Right mindfulness".

music is suitable

Interesting comment about work. If you are enjoying your work then you dont worry so much about getting money. I think that was the point anyway..
Simon0 4 years ago
agreed, if you draw a big salary from your work but you don't enjoy your work then there is no happiness in your life as one spends a big portion of his time on work

Did u guys know that Buddhist monks are the happiness people on earth. A brain test were conducted (putting wires on their head) and the test went off the chart. That's how happy they are.
RoyalLAO 4 years ago
Maybe 99.99% of them!!!
I know because I use to visit the Buddha temple few times every months but most of the time when they offer us nice occassions.
Did you know some monks use to be mentally disturbed before then and join for a good reason, the real pratice of the buddha state of mind and emotions?
I know a monk like that in Quebec,Canada. ;(

Buxxby 3 years ago
This is a fallacy. You are not allowed to join the monkhood if you are mentally disturbed, among other things. However, Vipassana certainly is very useful in helping mental illness.
arvoremaravilha 3 years ago
Um, that wasnt the point my friend. The point is that Modern Psychology takes from buddhism in its techniques. Vapassina is available to all, not just monks. :)
Buxxby 3 years ago
I don't disagree, I just see a lot of people around here saying things like "Buddhists don't have rules". It couldn't be further from the truth. As a Buddhist who struggles with not breaking the rules on a daily basis I can tell you they have rules. The only thing is unlike other religions, we don't judge people for breaking them, even if it's wrong. :)
