A Night At The Opera is the very best Queen-album. Actually it's the best album of all albums ever made... I'm 13 and listening to Queen is one of my daily routines :) I was born in the wrong generation! I will never ever see Freddie perform in real life, and it makes me sad... Freddie, you will live forever, your fans from back then and your new fans will take care of that! Legendary
Never knew any of this till I watched a programme on Sky Arts last night. I used to sing along with this song donkeys years ago and never realised!! Oh the innocence of youth (well I was then). All I can say is Good for Queen and now I can listen to it and realise why exactly they are singing the words. Only taken me three decades! duh!
Irony at it's best, Freddie (bein the incomparable genious) got the anger out of his system somehow. He announced to the world the kind of evil wicked heartless money hungry, self serving traitor Norman Sheffield is. I hope by doing this song Freddie, Queen and Karma caused him a very long unemployment period, that all the money he stole wasnt't enough and he ended up a beggar. Payback for literally starving inocent and naive people of food and shelter by stealing their legally earned money.
@freddieinmyheart actually, Norman Sheffield continued his work on the music business for a long time, funny is that he claims he´s innocent... his son says that Queen were greedy and his daddy is a saint!
@TheJumpyPopcorn The only thing I've read about him in regards to this subject is that supposedly after he listened to the song he tried to sue Queen for difamation..."Death On Two Legs" doesn't even mention his name. Maybe his nickname is "A Real Motherfucker" lol. If he (Sheffield) hadn't done that no one would've tied the song to him. Who do you believe? Me? Freddie and Queen of course! Also I've watched interviews where other people talk about this and they seem to tell the truth.
@freddieinmyheart The asshole wanted to get the most at of the situation apparently even by accepting being called death on two legs. I would've done the same thing and after kicked his ass in for good. Freddy is awesome. Sick in in MF!!! "shark".
This was freddie's version of a hate letter to a former manager named Norman Sheffield, the band thought that he had not given them the support that they needed.
With your pigheaded rules With your narrow - minded cronies you are fools of the first division- Death on two legs - You're tearing me apart, You never had a heart of your own - Kill joy, Bad guy, Big talking, Small fry Can you face me - But now you can kiss my ass goodbye Feel good, are you satisfied Do you feel like suicide (I think you should)
The song was written by Freddie Mercury and describes his hatred toward Queen's ex-manager, Norman Sheffield, who is reputed to have mistreated the band and abused his role as their manager from 1972-1975.
Una de las mejores intros de la historia del rock, combinación de arpegios, distorsiones, excelente, este tema está entre los mejores de Queen, tanto por la letra como por la música.
lol this song was about the company queen signed with they wrote a few other ones about there recording company or manager or something, i cant remember what the others are called, they must of really gotten screwed over
You're a sewer-rat decaying in a cesspool of pride
Should be made unemployed
Make yourself null-and-void
Make me feel good
I feel good
That last part with all the voices and instrumental... I just love it... And the rythim itself... Queen... They were fucking genious... Like no one I've ever heard or seen...
Wow THis is awesome. Ive never heard Freddie sing the word "ass". Are there any more songs they cuss in. I remember rhapsody saying Greatest Hits II had some.
A cover by Rooney was also good though. Norman Sheffield, the most motherfucker guy in Freddie history. He had used much of Queen budget that time. This is one of my favorite in Queen catalogue and far more better than Body Language. Toink!
"Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To...)" could only be referred to as Mercury's hate letter toward Queen's ex-manager, Norman Sheffield, who is reputed to have mistreated the band and abused his role as their manager from 1972-1975. Though it never made a direct reference to him, upon listening to the song, Sheffield attempted to sue the band for defamation. This was how the public found who the song was about. Sheffield later admitted that it probably gave the band an incentive to dedicate
the song to him after he decided to sue them. During live performances, Mercury would usually re-dedicate the song to "a real motherfucker of a gentleman", although this line was bleeped out on the version that appeared on their Live Killers album in 1979, possibly to avoid further legal proceedings.
Unlike the 1975 studio version from the same "Opera" album as Death on Two Legs, there was a more popular 1979 Live Killers version of Love of my Life. It was even tried as a UK chart single reaching just No 63.
I would put A night at the Opera up there with any album! I think they slightly lost me a bit around the time of Jazz, but they did up their game to become as good as ever!
I have to say though,of the earlier albums "Sheer Heart Attack" stands out along with "a Night at the Opera"....just brilliance!
I think 1973-1980 was the golden era. 1991 was the best album since the golden ear. But unfortunately mercury passed away. It weird how some of his lovers survived Hiv infections , while he died. I think Queen got lazy in 1980s. They were more interested in enjoying their fruits of hard work. Only when they had little time left for Freddie did they produce a stellar album.
I've always loved Queen. Freddie's voice just amazing! So powerful, such conviction. When I was a kid, I used to get teased for listening to them....I didnt care what people said. Oh, but now..everyone loves Queen.Did it take people that long to realize that they were (are) one of the best bands ever? and..yes..they are.
For me, not the overrated "BoRhap", but this one is the best track on this album. I've always liked it. Very suggestive guitar, energetic vocal. Pleasure to hear.
if that were true then that would still make a night at the opera number three. but queen is their first album making a night at the opera number four!
A night at the opera is easily Queen's breakthrough. And they wrote while listening alot to the White Album by the Beatles. But I have to say, alot of Queens later albums are good as well. News of the World, Jazz, The Game, and pretty much all their albums in the late 70's and 80's even Innuendo right before Freddie died.
Its alot more epic than any Beatles album though i would say, they recorded the album in Wales aswell, maybe Wales was an inspiration for Seaside Rendezvous. Brilliant song aswell. Innuendo is amazing
What I'd like to know is why is this video here? I mean, is this just someone ripping off Freddie's angry music to promote their own personal website?
I'm amazed that youtube dosen't know when its obviously copyright infringment.

"Was the fin on your back part of the deal? Shark."- Classic XD I hear this song was about the band/financial manager. They were having major success in the UK with their first few albums and selling tons, but they were broke. Freddie blamed their manager and voila! One of the best rock songs of all time!!
'A Night at the Opera' is the one of the most under rated rock albums of all time, and this is the epic opening track that would have been without question a world wide smash had they released it.
ya their stuff from the 70's is much better than the stuff they had in the 80's, i totally agree with u though couldve been another epic track...its unfortunate tht their arent enough ppl listenin to this, but atleast my ears are satisfied
Totally agree pzrplam, most of Queen's material after the seventies isn't worth listening to, they went from serious innovative groundbreaking rock pioneers to to commercial pop schlock whores in the space of a couple of albums at the turn of the decade.
i wouldn't go that far. i would say that when you get older you tend to change, and that would tend to change in their music since they wrote what they felt as everyone does.

I really really really like this song for it's pace and vibe.
The odd ending even makes it better (on the cd the next song just fits in so good).
