  • Enya's big sister Maire is the most talented member of the family.

  • Oíche mhaith, Chris!

  • i think it's celtic.

  • @Dragonsbane11 Irish gaelic, the genre is Celtic :)

  • do you know of any irish love songs

before you ask why its for my girlfriend.

  • @luckado123 That's cute... but she is gonna understand the words, right?

  • @cozycute You can find some help by using Google Translator ----> English-Irish

  • @firsa62 I know that much, but at the time....

  • @cozycute ??? I can communicate in Irish (Gaelic) with Irish friends and they say it's ok, of course because they speak a perfect English....so where is the problem? Celtic is too difficult for us to learn....(I'm Italian...)

  • @firsa62 Wait, huh? I'm getting confused. What were you talking about in the beginning?

  • @cozycute OK: as I like communicating with Irish friends and by kidding we also write in Celtic=Gaelic ( not only in English) , I use Google Translator English-Irish and they say it's correct.

  • @firsa62 Oh. I was saying that it would be nice to know the lyrics AT THE TIME. I use Google translate too.

  • @cozycute Do you mean...at the same time that you are listening to them, so as to find the translation word by word? A smile from a rainy Parma, Italy!

  • девченки - я из россии - a русские - это те же ирландцы - только очень злые. Clannad - фор евер!!!

  • Gaelic singing, lovely. <3

  • it is GAEILGE...in other words it is the irish language!

  • @candiemilkshake That's what I said :) That's the Irish spelling, though. Being English myself, I use the English way of spelling it as it's easier.

  • 50 to 54 is either gaelick or latin i think

  • @DarkDragon14358 All of the stuff that's not English is Irish Gaelic :) Hope this helps.

  • Hauntingly beautiful! My favorite version. Thanks.

  • Such an inspiring musical art. Thanks for uploading.

  • I love Siuil a Ruin. Has anyone heard the version by Cecile Corbel?

  • Or the version by Kokia?

  • @PianoKeys4 Noop. Is this Charis?

  • @4096quagmire Yes.

  • what a beautiful song, what a melodic language, thanks for the upload!

  • @geogramma17 That's all right! :D

  • Walk, walk, walk, O love,

    Walk quickly to me, softly move;

Walk to the door, andaway we'll flee,

And safe may my darling be.

  • @MrDongringo Thanks! I've been trying to get hold of that for a while now :)

  • Is this the real song? because the other songs of suiul a run is different. but the lyrics is the same. and this song is longer.

  • @BFro2ndHandAFro

As far as I know it's one of the oldest versions. Clannad are quite a well known group and this recording is from 1976. A lot of traditional songs are different depending on who sung them, and that's because of the oral tradition. There are a couple of verses in this one that aren't in, for example, the version used in Lord of the Dance -- which is why I like this version better :)

  • Beautiful

  • @chachimente I completely agree. That's why I posted it. :)

And I have a strange obsession with making sure I reply to every single comment that is posted ... probably because I don't get very many.

  • Beautiful!

  • @medea1990 Indeed it is. :D

  • @4096quagmire

    What the language ?

  • @kisaura It's Irish Gaelic :) (as opposed to Scottish Gaelic or Welsh or something)

  • Oh no! 666 views!

    :D

  • @danniketurah1992

Yes, it's hard, on account of the whole 'it's spelt like that but not pronounced like that' thing. If you want to learn a few words, look up 'before you know it' on google and it's a web teacher that uses flashcards. However, it's not that great for learning whole phrases.

Otherwise I'd suggest having a look around and see if you can find any web tutors / evening classes in the area.

  • Thankyou for the lyrics. Id love to be able to sing in irish. xx

  • That's okay. It's quite hard to learn from the lyrics, because of the way the words are never the same as how they're spelt!

This is the only song *I* can sing in Gaelic. :) But I'm working on it.

  • @4096quagmire Are you irish yourself??

  • Unfortunately, no, but my grandmother was. So I'm ever so slightly Irish, though not enough for it to really count. However, I play a lot of Celtic music and I take Irish Dance classes, so ...

  • Lovely voice

  • It's the Clannad version, and it's on several of their albums, so if you ever wanted to buy it, I'm sure you'd be able to find it on Amazon ...

It's one of my favourite versions of this song, actually.

  • thank you

  • Cool, any idea how i could learn gaelic/irish?? I know its apparently really hard!!
