i wish alissa would skate to a more relaxed piece of music this seems so heavy... she has such a feminine, beautiful style. it would really be awesome to see her tap into that more in seasons to come
@EchelonSummer I AGREE!! That was one of my favorite performances of his. I dont think that this piece is overused. Great skaters do it justice, Virtue Moir, Czisny and Weir.
This rink looks absolutely filled to the rafters, after watching the pathetic crowd at Skate America!! I mean, after Lysacek pulled out, that was it! Alissa is an incredible skater and a wonderful person!! She's a force now..good luck to her!!
@TheLifeOfEvangelea Here's my ideas for promoting audiences at Trophee Bompard: have other companies advertise on the rink sideboards, this is Paris--the advert designs would be fantastic! The rink is just a mile from the Louvre, fer chrissakes! And give the winners a week's free stay in the fancy hotels in downtown Paris and $10,000 to spend on shopping in Parisian stores. There'd be lots of attendant promotion.
I think alissa should have been ahead of carolina! i know that alissa doesnt have the best jumps but atleast she can land triple flip and lutz which carolina cant anymore!
@aaaaaaaaandrew I ridiculously agree with this. I still don't understand why Carolina still overtakes Alissa even with her easier jumps, multiple mistakes, and uncentered spins. It's just crazy. And Alissa's component scores should not be lower than Carolina at this competition
@luckymanem I used to review ballets and once in a while I'd be asked to judge ballet contests--you would not believe the bias the judges would have for or against certain skaters! Politics plays an enormous part in all this. I think Alissa Czisny and Yuna Kim are the two best skaters in the world, and that Czisny is the paradigm. Alissa has grace, style, beauty, talent, gorgeous eyes...I can watch her forever. Therre are other skaters who are superb athletes but they lack artistry.
@luckymanem Oops, I meant bias for or against "dancers", which then, translates into bias for or against skaters. I hope the girls understand that sometimes it's the politics that defeats them.
Does anybody else notice at the beginning, that she picks up a piece of ice or something off the rink, tosses it against the wall, and it goes "clunk"? Is Paris really that dissolute, that they cannot keep their ice clean? Hmmpf! One day I shall hold Alissa Czisny aloft on the top of Notre Dame Cathedral, whilst I yell "Sanctuary! Sanctuary!" --These French will learn to appreciate ladies figure skating.
It still amazes me how far she has come. before the 2010/2011 season no one considered her to be a threat and she almost retired. Now at 24 years old she is the best she has ever been and challenging the best in the world.
To be academically precise, Alissa Czisny would be a Prima Ballerina Assoluta. It's a term from the 1800's, meaning the highest, like summa cum laude.
Alissa Czisny is actually better than Anna Pavlova if you compare them from old movies of Pavlova. I wonder ... Alissa would make an exquisite prima ballerina.
@TeamKween2010 I know! Kostner and Czisny have both suffered from nervousness, and over the past year and a half both have completely transformed themselves. The height Alissa has with her jumps in this program is amazing. In the past she underrotated jumps- not anymore.. She needs to hold check the landings like she did here. Kostner used to have speed that was out of her control, now she's very much IN control. Both ladies have improved beyond measure and it's obvious they respect each other.
@TeamKween2010 There is definitely a rivarly between Alissa and Carolina. I've observed them in practice sessions in Skate America and The Grand Prix Final. I wouldn't be surprised if that "Good Luck" was meant to be a "Try and beat that" to psych her out. Not to criticize her, I'm huge fan of both Alissa and Carolina.
Ah yes, lovely. Well controlled, smooth and delicious. Her 121.90 was the best Freeskate here at TEB. Combined with her 64.20 at Skate America she could win the Grand Prix Final in Quebec City in three weeks.
She won Silver.

I will bet anyone $1,000,000 that Alissa will win Gold at 2012 Nats. Except betting isn't allowed on the Internet.

I'm listening to Elvis Presley singing "Love Me Tender" as I watch her skate, yeah it works a lot better.

This program was probably the best lp for anyone of the Grand Prix series.
