  • @LightCan you are a dick! There's loads of good games.. GTA3, PvZ, DeadSpace, Where's my water... For a few. As for apps any good app has an android version so you can shove that up your arse! F@% king fanboy!

  • The bottom line is this:

The iPhone does not have the problems that Android has.

Jobs is right when he talks about Android fragmentation vs iPhone integration. The same problem beleaguers Windows PCs. By requiring compatibility with virtually unlimited hardware configurations, Windows PCs suffer endless anomaly. In contrast, Macintosh computers are designed in tandem with their operating systems, such that they run smooth and reliably.

If you want more "openness" on your iPhone, jailbreak.

  • Haha android can do a hell of a lot more than iPhone

  • Android=Love

    Apple=Hitler

I'll stick with my Android, the rest of you can keep giving Steve Jobs hand jobs.

  • Fragmentation. How can one disagree with that?

  • Stock = meh custom rom = Ftw

  • It sounds a little like he's reading off a list.

  • Hey i just got rid of my ipad and now i have a galaxy tab. It works better for flash. Its called greed ,no flash no sd card reader sms mms phone ect ect

  • apple iphone is closed LOL

  • Whatta troll.

  • i agree htc and motorola's attempts at their own personalized UI is garbage.....they should at least give you the choice of their UI or stock android

  • @johall07 I agree but I see why they don't. They want to make themselves different so not every piece of android hardware is practically a Nexus one or Nexus S. Without HTC sense or Motoblur the OS is no longer attracted to the OEM, it makes sense they need a UI to go over there so they can say "look at our clock widget that shows full screen weather" OEM's don't want there phone to blend with 1000 other android phones.

  • @Mafia1779 These same people are still kicking your ass even though the Verizon Iphone came out.

  • While I agree with Steve Job's criticism of Android for being fragmented (although he must be exaggerating quite a bit), he is completely mis-characterizing what it means to be open. Microsoft isn't open because they, just like Apple, tie the developers down to one correct way of doing things with little or nothing in the way of customization and code modification. That they don't integrate their software, or don't tie it to specific hardware, but that's an issue of fragmentation, not openness.

  • How many of those apps are fart sound boards? lol @ app statistics

  • Android is so open you have to root it just to do what you want with it....

  • @MrCuriousDavid r u shitting my google sucks dick!!! The software is glichy as hell

  • @frenchbread123

yeh thats why u can only watch youtube vids google phones uses adobe

  • too bad apple blows ass. if jobs wasnt such a retard, he would be the one with the monopoly.

  • lol, thought he was a girl at first

  • one word: DAMN.

  • The real failure and android devices is that many manufacturers and distributors try to copy apples business models and proprietary software models, in the short term by locking down phones and capabilities. However unlike apple they offer no long term support and abandon perfectly good hardware of obsolescence by failure to give the needed support or the specifications needed for community support. I'm not aware of anyone actually leveraging the openness to its fullest potential for consumers.

  • in short "OMG competition and variety it soo inconvenient"

From an evolutionary standpoint, fragmented is always superior, because they are more resilient to pressure. The iJobs devices can really only go for one market at once, and android can peruse several with the same device. The real problem is that many android devices aren't open enough, Source code for necessary drivers is not released making it impossible to users to upgrade to the newest version and hardware locks also get in the way

  • Android and iOS is both EPIC FAIL. Enjoying your killswitches, fandroids and iFags? N900 with Maemo reporting in, you fags are all smalltime. Desktop Linux applications sure feel good!

  • lmao. wow. these guys just do everything they can to attempt to make android look like garbage. lol.

android destroys android. oh no, there are all these deferent devices, and so many dirent versions of android. what ever will we do????? we will find a carrier, phone manufacturer, and "version of android" that suites our likings. or we can all get apple. every single one is identical. wow. yay. boring. android is a better os. even for noobs.

now commence shit talking to me iphags

  • APPLE IZ AMAZING GOOGLE SUCKS!!!

  • @frenchbread123

FUCK APPLE GOOGLE IS WAYYYYYY BETTER RETARD

  • @MrCuriousDavid Your arguments are damn convincing. :/

  • Keep on crying steve jobs!! Android is da bomb!

  • Bottom line: android is huge

  • steve doesn't seem to understand what the word open means in a software context.

It does not mean the ability to choose hardware.

  • Haha 344 android fans pure fail. Stick with your one cent phones idiots

  • @bobchan111 lol. another idiot iphag. for every ONE THING you name that ios (including4) does that android 2.2 and up does not do, i will name 10 things that android can do that ios can not.

keep in mind i use a rooted samsung epic 4g with android 2.2 and i am a developer and know exactly what this phone is capable of. same with ios. i just dont develop ios apps. but i know my way around both.

    commence stupidity. read... go.

  • Stop talking about already. Steve. Just shows us more and more how paranoid you are with Android.

  • Freedom is not for everyone.

  • wjy the fuck is the pix upside down?

  • Google = Big Brother Is Watching

  • Steve jobs sucks and so does his product, android is 10x better than the Ishit.

  • @SteveJobs: Please STFU.

  • These same people kept "bitching" about how expensive the iPad was yet somehow justify that a 7 inch Android tablet is infinitely better at the same price? They just look for any excuse to rip on the company who captured 95 percent of the tablet market. Once Apple opens up the iPhone to Verizon next year, HTC and Motorola better get ready for the onslaught. Hell, AT&T actually received more than Verizon this year due to the iPhone alone

  • @Mafia1779 apple have haters only cause they can't beat 'em

Apple is the industry standard people should get used to that fact

  • @Mafia1779 Even when the iPhone drops on Verizon, even if it captures ATTs customers, it will be hard to take customers away from being grandfathered into unlimited data. Android currently has the biggest cut in mobile marketshare in the US. Customers are different, you can't assume everyone wants one phone. Don't forget about converters and new customers, iphones going android and vice versa. I used to own both, now I own WP7, until Android or MS does something, I'm eying an iPad for a home tab

  • @Mafia1779 ok dumbass keep sucking steve jobs' dick u faggot

  • @Mafia1779 yeah..because they ripped people off and buttfucked them into a contract. no shit you'd make more money from 1 to 4 dumbfucks on this earth paying almost 3x more than the highest cellphone plans feasible. and most of them are too stupid to operate a smart phone to begin with. and the new HTC phones announced from sprint, samsung, verizon, etc. are going to cockslap this usless piece of shit phone into Narnia anyways, so your "onslaught" is void.

  • "every handset works the same" because they're all made by apple

There is an integrated app store called the Android Market where the majority of applications for Android systems are easily downloadable.

The companies that are launching their own markets will have only apps that work for their phones but the standard market will have all of them as well it's just for simplification.

Also i don't think any developers test on multiple systems, they get messages from users if the app doesnt work

  • @JonBj2 youre dumb, theres going to be 5 stores to search for apps in android. theres 6 different UI skins, making it inconsistent experiences between phones, and making the phones work on different versions of the OS. its a mess

  • @LightCan I never said there weren't going to be different stores but the specialized stores will have ONLY apps that work on the specific stores, the regular store has all of 'em.

Some of the different companies have their own UI's but some don't, mine does but i can always switch it to the standard Android skin with an integrated home switcher.

And due to the incredible variety of phones the OS has to be specifically tailored to the phone itself, this has its pros but also cons though.

  • @JonBj2 sorry, i was going to say specific phones not specific stores

  • @JonBj2 its not integrated, even the market is fragmented. go try to download angry birds on an htc wildfire. you cant because the developers couldnt test all the phones from android because of fragmentation between skins and os versions.

  • Still, it has its flaws.

  • I think that-- if steve jobs wasnt such a control freak, many of apples products would not be the very very top of the line products that they are. In order to fulfill the imagination of a visionary like steve, being proprietary is the only option. It's also crucial to preserve brand identity.

Making products is an art for steve, and allowing other people access to his canvas would prevent him from creating his best.

  • I like how everyone keeps forgetting about the iPod's complete dominance in the portable music player market for the last decade. Was it "open"? Hell no. Did other crappy "open devices" have more "features" than it? Probably. But to the general consumer they could have given less of a damn. As long as it's convenient and works without a hitch who gives a damn about "openness". Have fun bowing down to Schultz instead of Jobs =b

  • @Mafia1779 But did it have an open alternative? Hell it did not even have an ecosystem of developers. Prepare to get pwned by Android, lol, anyway i want you to witness the pwnage, no hard feelings.

  • "Open systems don't always win." oh please steve get a fucking clue will you?

  • "The first thing we think about when we hear 'open' is Windows"?

You keep using that word, 'open'. I don't think it means what you think it means.

  • "When selling the users who want thier devices to just work, we believe integrated will trump fragmented everytime".....yah, so long as you hold your phone correctly, or place duct tape over the metal band, or buy a skin protector, and jail break it from AT&T's shit network, and don't ever want to use flash...

  • We Love You Steve

And I Prefer Closed And It Seems That Im Not The Only One....

  • could be this a fake?

  • @E430c

    lol. no its not

  • as simpler as integrated could be for consumer, it comes with a price, that doesn't cover the benefit :

integrated = one market = monopoly (and Jobs obviously knows this)

and the consumer, contrary to what jobs says, is made worse off. Basic econ 101

  • Who bailed apple out in the 1990's??

  • TRANSLATION: "we at apple, would rather have our customers pay an additional 100+ dollars to us when something fucks up on their device...rather than allowing them to make backup files, contacts, etc and pre-versions of their software in the first place. and would rather have fewer of the same beta-less apps, and have users pay in our market place where half of the apps are shit to begin with"

..so tired of steves "customer service" bullshit, give me a fuckin break.

  • Why is he redefining what "open" means? Nobody thinks MS Windows is open. Just the opposite. Google have made Android code completely transparent, open source. Anyone can look at it. That is the industry meaning of open. Apple is the new Micro$oft. Even MS themselves are realising the benefit of publishing their code. Apple publish nothing they haven't been pushed in a corner to publish.

Jobs is losing it, his arguments are all the wrong way round. Google not integrated? pfft propaganda

  • @CstandsforAwesome

Who said he was the richest man in the world?

  • Haha, Jobs is so shooting himself in the foot by using this strawman argument against Open Source.

    apple.com/opensource/

  • @capitalsown all the things you listed don't matter to anyone who isn't a complete nerd living in their moms house at 35.

  • @KoolAidManOG OK so i get you. you value aesthetics over usefulness. cool.

  • @ihpb09 - And you value being a fanboy instead of looking at the practical advantages over one class of device over another, even if it isn't necessarily what you may need (I certainly don't need an MBA).

    Cool.

  • @KoolAidManOG you accuse me of being a fanboy but i bet you can't even tell me what im a fanboy of. not only that, i certainly don't need a multitouch trackpad. that's me looking at a device based on what i need.

  • @ihpb09 - Part of being a fanboy is irrational hatred against what you don't own. 360 owners hating on PS3s or vice versa, stupid shit like that.

You don't need a multitouch trackpad, good for you. Using OS X or Windows 7 on a laptop without one IMHO is horrible, I am much much faster and more productive with one, simple.

You give no good reasons against one, just that you don't need one. You don't need one, great, that either tells me that you are willfully ignorant or non-productive.

  • @KoolAidManOG you stupid fuck

dont you have a clue? android will never sell with a verizon iphone or verizon windows phones. android is so fucking ugly. htc sense is lipstick on a pig. android has zero fucking games, zero good apps, and the whole user experience on the typical android phone consists of fucking horrid fonts, horrid transitions, the ugliest icons ever...

its the only choice on verizon, thats why android wins idiot.

have fun with your task managers and viruses on android

  • @LightCan - Um, WTF, I like the iPhone, you misreplying or something?

  • @LightCan i own an ipod touch and an htc evo and i agree about bad apps. app store's got soo much better apps than android market. and yes. i am having soo much funn with my task managers too.

  • @ihpb09 - Honestly, your argument is like a Yugo owner justifying to himself that he actually bought a decent car. If a Yugo is all you can't afford, great, a budget is a budget, but hating on better cars for the features that they have "because you don't need it" is idiotic.

  • @ihpb09 - Its amazing how dense and clueless you are. Gratz.

  • wow for someone who owns a computer company doesn't know what open is. how is windows open? why because it can be installed on any computer? that steve jobs is not open......what a moron, clearly google are saying that android is open source meaning developers can improve on stock android. the fact is that is what is happening.

truth is apple is scared because android is taking large share of their market. why is apple so insistent on smear campigns. competition is good for consumers

  • "The first thing we think of when we hear open is windows" WTF, huh? Who thinks of windows as open?

  • Apple sucks and the iPhone is stupid

  • I am an android fan, but I can't say anything bad about the iPhone because it's a great phone, i don't understand why there has to be so much hate on both sides...

  • The word "open" doesn't really remind me of windows, but I do know that there are many windows users than mac users and same goes to the phone Market where there is more android user than iOS user. It's kind of true that android is very divided, updating android is an pain ass thing. Few years down the road, your android device may not longer be upgradable to the lastest android software.

  • @Dncemnky True . . . True.

  • @Dncemnky Well, turns out - phones with a great brand on it tend to be good. Same case with Android, though.

  • @Dncemnky most people who buy Apple products, not just the iphone

  • @Dncemnky

    what this, fucking moron:

    watch?v=MkhSmzb5JxQ

  • @Dncemnky I just jerked off to your comment. That's how good it is.

  • @Dncemnky not true.

  • NOONE buys android because of the OS, they get it because they have no choice. The common consumer does NOT know what android is.

The ONLY reason android is popular is because it is THE ONLY CHOICE you have on verizon. its either android or a shitty blackberry. hmmm i wonder what people will choose, cool touchscreen that looks like a poor mans iphone, or the blackberry with archaic os and small screen.

Android is a placeholder that people get because they have zero fucking choice right now.

  • @LightCan Who is verizon? There's tons of choice... Android, Meego, iOS, WM, Blackberry, Symbian... and many phones on each.. oh, except iOS, only the iPhone uses it.. Maybe that's why Jobs is concerned, because people are excercising their choice!

  • lol

  • Steve, you're only supposed to make the kool-aid, not drink it.

  • I 2nd the bald man getting cancer statement and I hope you apple fan boys have fun sucking the lies out of jobs mouths.

  • @mattjcoulson so explain what fragmented and integrated mean, please? Android is fragmented like Windows is open source, and iPhone is integrated like Apple tastes of lemons! ;-)

  • @dusktreader13 XFD WTF

  • you mad, jobs?

  • screw him, we all know android is so much better, LOOK I CAN SEND FILES!! :O cmon jobs get with the times lol

  • Though Steve Jobs might be right about the fragmentation... But his views are very subjective to the concept of "Open". In other words, he's seriously advocating that "Choice" is not an option. There's a difference between letting the people choose what they want and let the course of evolution take place than forcing them with a solution. Perception on both ends can challenged, but we all know what happen to Windows with their operating system. It limits creativity and that’s what Apple is here

  • Real open mobile OS is Meego.

  • @shjesus @zzkinnardzz @abe2517 You guys sure are ignorant idiots.

  • @zingo33 Microsoft did NOT save Apple. Apple saved Apple. Or more importantly, Steve Jobs saved Apple.

Microsoft invested $150 million and made a 5-year commitment to release Microsoft Office for the Mac. That’s it. Did you know Steve Jobs was a billionaire at the time of his return to Apple? He owned Pixar and sold his NeXT computer company to Apple for $400 million. He could have easily “saved” Apple himself if he needed to.

  • hope that bald fucker gets cancer.

  • Halleluja ! I don't care what this is - I just appreciate the apparent self righteousness and the totally absent social/marketing antennae for opposing points of view. Who is this Steve, anyway - someone I should google ?

  • I lol'd at his definition of "open". And i lol'd even more when Andy Rubin twitted:

the definition of open: "mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make"

This guy is clueless about anything else than his little bubble.

  • @realOjive i lol'd at Steve Jobs, to be exact. Just FYI in case it didnt come out right :)

  • fuck u iphone . iphone sucks, antenna problem, video calling only works on wifi how gay,no flash player wtf iphone sux !

  • @shjesus Video calling over 3G would give a crappy video quality, and it would have been expensive as hell. My antenna works fine, without a bumper, and it is proven that most smartphones aren't any better. Sure, no flash player sucks, though, but they use HTML5 or something.

  • Apple used to suck ass!! lol, I remember when no one but schools had there products, and their stock was only $7.00, yes seven dollars. lol. Now its worth?? Just because of the glitchyy fucked up overpriced iphone!! iproducts SUCKK!!

  • iProducts suck and I(ss)rael did 9/11!!!

  • ALL BOW TO STEVE JOBS!

  • Windows 95 > iOS 9000.0

  • @Peon546 Well... windows 95 is the best operating system that ever existed, so yah.

  • @joeyvigil. nope, windows 3.1 is mutch better.

  • Sounds like Jobs is getting a little nervous.

  • you can emulate n64 games on a droid 8=====D

  • I love my iPhone 4 and used to have an android and ultimately the iPhone might not be as open but it is smoother, well thought out and apple actually waits to come out with software etc. until it is perfect

  • Looks like the spider man scene where peter parker is about to kiss mary jane upside down...im sure steve would do that with the ipad.... :P

  • Its funny because on all pf Steve Jobs devices (computers, laptops, ipods, etc) the default searching engine is "Google"

  • @LMAOUTURD There is no way you worked for Apple. Your comments are that of a little 14 or 15 year old idiot. Sorry. Not sure how you can call a genius who runs a 300 billion dollar company an idiot and what not. Just shows how bright you are NOT.

  • dammit the upside down pic is annoying

  • In response to Steve Jobs just being interested in the money is completely wrong. Of course a business's goal is to make money, but Steve Jobs annual U.S salary is $1.

  • @PrestonRobinson and how much do you think he makes a quarter from stock option dividends? he ain't doin' that shit for free.

  • This is hard to masturbate to.

  • Wow, thousands of children die every day, and you have nothing better to do than talk about such unnecessary crap ?

Amazing, how pathetic people can be.

    Congratulations.

I have NO mobile phone, imagine !

  • I have a Mac and personally prefer them but this dude sounds like retardedness in a cup.

  • Android will rule the world yopu faggot !

  • Steve Job's your a faggot who only has a company because Bill Gates bails you out of every bankruptcy your fucked company threatens your shareholders with. Job's Android is putting you out of business you fag so get over it you AIDS infected fag ! I kmnow all this because I used to work for you and you had to beg Gates to bail out your failing company by begging for OFFICE to be useable in your shitty PC. Android is going to crush Apple to the core, and as for Google they spat you out.

  • How does "Open" make us think of "Windows"?

Steve Jobs needs to get himself a dictionary. Open = OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE = FREE = ANYONE CAN GET IT = Made by the people FOR the people, and not for "getting more money in Steve Job's pocket"....

And just for the hell of it, a comparison between two CLOSED source companies Microsoft and Apple

What's best for the customer, Mr. Jobs? Stealing their money or Stealing more money? a.yfrog.com/img140/8738/macinfo.png

  • what kind of nerdy shit am i listening to?

  • Ok overall I like the iPhone better than android especially cuz you can jailbreak it (but I do like how the android is fingerprint resistant the overall design of the device), but please do not hate on google or windows, windows is pretty similar to Mac in many ways, they are just stylistically different.

  • @ShadowiGeneral ummm dude you can root your android phone (same as jail breaking)

  • @mozz0011 really? cool, can you get free apps and stuff?

  • jobs is just stating the facts.

  • You jelly Jobs?

  • basically he's saying innovation happens better on a clean sheet of paper with a standard no.2 pencil, compared with using any type of medium available with any type of art tool.

  • @LMAOUTRD Your a dumb ass. Microsoft wouldn't exist I'd it weren't for Steve Jobs and Apple. Bill Gates stole and copied the Mac OS and created the piece of crap known as Windows. Watch Pirate of Silicon Valley and you will learn the truth.

  • @rnf1968 I used to work for steve you idiot, he's a failure, so fuck you and steve.

  • @rnf1968 Apple would not exist today if it wasn't for Microsoft. Microsoft saved Apple in 1997 when it was about to go bankrupt.

  • The only advantage of Android is the flash web browser but it's not an issue anymore since all my favorite streaming website now support iPhone format in one way or another. And I don't see the reason to choose inferior flash game over better graphic native iPhone games. Also, flash will eventually work on jailbreaking iPhone. Google frash an you will see. Lastly Steve Job is a tool. He's an arrogant prick.

  • All you android failed to address his point. That Android devices lack a common spec or even a same screen resolution. This make Android a bad platform for gaming developing. For people like me who want a mobile gaming device with mobile Internet connection will always choose iPhone over Android. I could care less that the Android homescreen can present 1794948 info with a glance because I could get the same info by opening apps. It just took a few more tap. Hardly a problem. The only advantage

  • Iphone is nothing but a relic of yuppies gone old you fag !

  • I'm not a fan boy of apple or windows, if you actually listen to this, some of it is true, Steve Job's has a good point. But hes pointing out all the negatives of Android while pointing out all the positives of Apple which is obviously bias.

  • Listening to you fills me with the urge too defecate !

  • Listening to you fills me with the urge to defecate !

  • Steve Job's your a faggot who only has a company because Bill Gates bails you out of every bankruptcy your fucked company threatens your shareholders with. Job's Android is putting you out of business you fag so get over it you AIDS infected fag !
