  • @MrDaoJones i advice you to not buy... bass guitar has no meaning without music

  • @trbossdoggy either you don't know how to play bass. or you're just stupid.

A good bass player can make the bass sound great, with or without a back song.

  • all you need is an Afro xD

  • You're a fucking animal.

  • Reminds me of Jamiroquai

  • reminds me of River People

  • I enjoy your relaxed pizzicato style... Is it a case of practising like that? Mine is a touch more aggressive and as a result I can't get quite as much speed or control.

  • More songs like this, please?

  • oh shit. that bass is SEXY.

  • Just wanted say thanks for all the awesome videos. Keep doing what you do cause you truly a great bass player. Maybe one day I will have the pleasure of seeing you perform in person.

  • Seriously...which 6 idiots gave this a thumb down? How can you not like this groove and the fact that Marlowedk is TEACHING people how to play some awesome stuff? All the respect to you Marlowe! You are awesome

  • Oh god that tone... WANT

  • that is a cool bass

  • I was thinking that the mighty lows were from the kick drum... I was wrong... They came fom that beauty...Fender Jazz Bass forever... cheers MDK...

  • So now I've discovered TWO great Danish musicians on Youtube: this adorable Mr MarloweDk and Mr Thomas75 (on electric guitar). In fact there is NOTHING rotten up in Denmark. Rock, blues and jazz do fine up in Denmark.

Hey Mr Marlowe I listen to this groove of yours 5 times a day. Can't get enough.

Rock on. Or Disco on. Or Jazz on.

  • omg I can't play this :P I'm so fat.

  • awesome vid. thanks for the tutorial :-)

  • @SDProductions72 I was joking. I'm glad to see humor is a big thing over there.

  • you are simply amazing dude

  • I've been watching your videos for quite some time now. I can honestly say you should be put on the cover of Bassplayer or something. You are a bad-ass cat and you never fail to inspire. Thanks for sharing your gift to fellow low-enders.

  • What is your favorite brand of bass guitar?

    amp and your favorite brand?

sorry for the bad english, I'm from the Netherlands.

    thank you

  • Comment removed

  • I can play this by ear :DDDD

  • The beginning reminds me of Mario. :)

  • this is why i like the bass!!

  • So smooth *-*

  • This tune reminds me of Mike Stern's "Ha ha hotel"!!

  • I love the "I'm made of awesome" look you give the camera now and again.

  • @musicmanstingray1234 that's what he always looks like. I'm pretty sure the DK in his username means Danish King. XD

  • haha great :D

  • he loscks a kind of gay but daman awesom nice guye we nead more guys like him greatings from germany

  • @Rukia8681 And less people like you.

  • The melody of "Do you thinK I'm sexy" was a direct ripoff of Jorge Ben's "Taj Mahal", be sure to check out the basslines in his music as well...time better spent then listening to Rod friggin Stewart

  • marlowe marlowe marlowe, have you made any full songs? if you made an album i would definitely purchase. your videos are all very helpful but it would be such a waste of talent if you didn't go any further with this.

  • J'aime beaucoup, celui là et un autre cours sont d'ores et déjà dans mon disque afin que je puisse les travailler.

    Thanks for sharing !

  • Asewoome!

iam guitarrist, but i love the bass groove

  • This doesn't sound like disco to me. Disco is generally 120-140 beats per min.

  • @MarloweDK is that some kind of effect pedal on your amp and how dya get the wicked drum groove? Lovin these lessons fella ;~)

  • super je me permet de prendre tes cuors de basses et c'est super bravos

  • If i had my eyes closed and heard this bass line, I'd say that was Bruno Tauzin. This sounds just like something he'd play

  • im in love with this bassline

  • Just watched a fair few of your vids, great that you offer all this stuff for budding and blossoming musicians, hmm flower analogies...must be spring. Anyway, great stuff. You have almost persuaded me to buy a bass instead of another guitar.

  • Hi Marlowe, does your band have anything on Youtube?

  • @catman605 Check out his other channel, bassplayalong. There are a few vids of their jams and practices. ;-)

  • Did you use a flanger effect?

  • picked up a bass to actually learn sth for the first time today .... i get the left hand part but can't really find a comfortable right hand position, any tips ???

  • i wanna have that long finger nails :C

  • Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, dance!

  • Jaco Pastorius style *--*

  • Some parts sound like the mario underground theme XD

  • Hello,

I was looking at You tube for some electric guitar stuff and stumbled across your work and have not moved for the last two hours!!

Your videos are excellent!! I may give up the six string and take up the bass.

  • this ones easy, my dog could do it!

  • you look like jack nicholson ..... great sound ^^

  • i hate this guy.....

  • Ha! Sound great xD

  • That sounds great. I'm going to use that little "umdidi" bit next time I get the chance. Clever. Really catches that disco feel.

  • if you were to use your ring finger for the 8th note and your middle and index for the 16ths you wouldnt have to move your hand as much B)

  • Disco bass = octives :D

  • Good playing Marlowe.....you never let my ears down :)

  • also porno bass lol. thanks

  • Hello Great MarloweDK,

I have to practice every your "little" riff for hours before I get it smooth, In all of your videos there's something tricky that needs hard training (at least for me). IT IS F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!! Perfect! Wonderful teacher! I love you!

Please keep up the incredibile work you are doing. please, please, please!

    Thanks

  • So smooth, sub'd you this is good for beginners to watch. [I personally think learning by ear and eye is best] You show really good simplistic sounds to build on! gj man = )

  • i want your bass

  • those 16ths are tricky. I dig it, great exercise.

  • this sounds like some funky version of a super mario 64 soundtrack. thumbs up me if you hear it. i am starting to love this disco bass stuff and ive only watched two of ur videos

  • You should be black.

  • @atypicalmystery Thx for the compliment:-)

  • @atypicalmystery This guy is really cool - he is Black!

  • @atypicalmystery In the heart -

  • @atypicalmystery I think he just white's up for his videos!

  • @atypicalmystery I'm thinking fluorescent orange would be even cooler! :P

  • @atypicalmystery thats the best thing you can say to a funky musican :D

  • @atypicalmystery

he is black... check you eyes bi-atch

  • sounds a bit like river people by jaco :)

  • ya gotta love em octaves

  • Thanks for the slow motion......man, i wished it was a option on youtube sometime...well, often...it is a great way to see what the player is doing....great line BTW.....and u look cool when u play...!

  • i am umdidi-umdidi-umdidi-ing all day long. Love it!

  • wats the mini bass head ure using there. thanks

  • Hi, i want to start playing electric bass. Do you recommend one that has good sound, isnt expensive, and is good for a beginner?

Your videos are awesome by the way

  • Beside that this is so amazing cool, Your bass is even cooler ;o ;D

  • What kind of bass?

  • this is the shiiiiit!!!!!! Excellent stuff my man cant wait to pick this up!!!! :P

  • Love its so much!!!!

  • i love playing with your riffs man...while you play your riffs i make my own and its like we're jamming lol hahahaha :D damn..your my idol xD

  • Very cool bassline! Took me about 10minutes to get it down properly. Keep things like this coming =)

Oh and btw. It's pretty lame that all the bass lines you write for your lessons, are always way cooler than "actual" bass lines used in most songs

  • @thodamned Well i can be more off the top, since I dont dont have to support a song in these licks;-)

  • @MarloweDK Well thats true:P But they could be MADE in to some pretty cool songs, if the song was based upon the bass lines xD

  • @MarloweDK True.. But cool songs could be made, with you bass licks as a focus :P

  • @thodamned Actually, we have used some of my licks as foundation for songs in my band

  • @MarloweDK where is that stuff? can you post some of your group work?

  • @thodamned Uh, you have to point us in a direction where we can hear your band =)

  • @MarloweDK Words out my mouth, tuff to play basslines like yours that are standout, they overpower a song or dont serve the song(all in how its worded)your instruction and technique are great, you show how to get as much out of as little movement as possible(got that? LOL!) great tech, thanks for the awesome vids, very selfless of you to give up your time.

  • love the snare,, it really makes it complete:D

  • nice amp!

  • hey, nice sound and bass!! :)

  • AWESOME!!

  • garage band loop.....it makes you dance. great

  • Real FUNKY!!

Like IT , You Got Paypal ?

Would like some live bass lines like that

  • funky!! where's that bassline from?

  • @locoluca404 I made it up:-)

  • @MarloweDK cool! keep on this is great

  • This would make a great ring tone!!

  • That small fill seems tricky as well...Thanks Marlowe you brought back Disco Man!

  • Amazing!

i would listen to this jam all day!

  • Love this Garage Band loop! Thnaks again, man

  • Do you pick the root note always with the index finger, or do you alternate them? 1-2-2 | 1-2-2 or 1-2-1 | 2-1-2 and so on.. Thanks!

  • Yes, 1-1-2, 1-1-2...

  • @FranoGracin I tend to play this type of thing with the thumb on the root note and then using the other two fingers (index/middle) for the octaves. Makes it much easier! ;)

  • good job! could you please upload the drumloop or tell me where you got it from?

  • say 2 me please what efeckt du you use ?

  • Loop it for 15 minutes? Plagiarism, eh? Sample it and pass it off as your own work? Nice try dude.

  • Haha love the chorus bro. Not to be picky, but to me that styled was pioneered by Bernard Edwards on early 76/77 CHIC cuts such as Dance dance dance... ;-)

  • We all got our favorites:-) Nice to hear from you Funky man Slikk

  • Can you make a 15 minute loop of this and upload it as an mp3? Please? Please? :D

  • Why?

  • So I can put it on an mp3 player and listen to it because it's awesome.

  • Lol, thank you, but i dont think so - 15 minutes of this would just make crazy;-)

  • he will loop it personally :))

  • do it yourself !

  • Fantastic again, keep on the posting

  • that was fucking sick

  • from info: "My nice girlfriend and I will be in the south of Gran Canaria, Spain between january 13 and 20. Anyone at home?;-)" Do you mean that you have another girlfriend who is not nice???

  • Lol, no!:-)

  • I have listened to this over and over....just amazing!

This should be my ringtone lol.

  • The double octave sounds a bit like Jamiroquai's style :D

As always, your uploads are awesome!

  • umdidi umdidi umdidi ahah! great teacher!!!!!!!

  • haha both funny and great

  • What kind of head is that?

  • you should record a full length song with lyrics and everything of this...its groovey as hell ive listened to it like 10 times wishing it was longer at the end of each time lol

  • Haha, yeah, I feel that way about all of his licks. I love learning them but sometimes I'd sacrifice having less of them to have more to them, they are just so awesome. Or you could edit out the playing and loop it for a couple minutes on a video for us, hahaha. Nah but seriously, this one is a lot of fun, and excellent, as always. Thank you Marlowe.

  • do you have a new camera? it looks little bit like a better quality

  • can i do a question Marlowe?...is this bass a real 62 or custom shop or a Japan reissue?? thanx

  • his is the real deal

  • yeah its a 'git 62

  • Very nice!

  • Love your groove's and your video's brutha,..very cool.

  • nice!

  • ...reminds me of a Mario tune! :P Sounds excellent!!

  • have a great holiday !!!

great lines to try and play

  • haha, sounds totally like scissor sisters :) Very cool groove!

  • Sah-weet...as usual.

  • aren't Garageband drum kits the best???

  • Very nice and neat groove Thomas but in my opinion the bass is a litte bit to quiet.

Gran Canaria? Beware of old German Grandpas and Grandmas they took over the island, I swear - I'm German and it's....well you gotto find a good hiding place : D

  • Quiet? Put on your headphones or plug in the stereo!

  • octave sounds great!

  • What can't you do? I don't think there's an answer to that question. Keep them coming man, a whole generation of bassists have you to thank, dude.

  • more disco lessons, please! I love playing disco bass.

  • No where near Spain, but if you ever travel to San Francisco, California... You should drop by =]

  • Thx anyway and you just never know;-)

  • Hi Marlowe this is great. I want to get a good sound on my bass, like you.

would you still recommend the Korg px4d, which you used to use extensively previously? There is a px5d available now, have you used it?

    cheers

    J

  • The Korg is great for videos and playing at home, but for both live AND recording this RH450 is the shit
