dang i was gonna get a bmw x5 in the near future, but crap, i might have changed my mind, because this is where my energy is going towards! i take Pontiac personally because ive owned a Bonneville for over 6 years! they are really great cars, and fun too!!!
U guy's in the u.s..check out the new fg falcon range..especially the fpv gt-p & typhoon..the v8 in the gt'p is a 5.4lt v8 32valve quad cam hand built by fpv aust. it makes 315kw 540nm.
but the typhoon is going to punch the shit out of all the v8's...gmh & fpv alike!
the typhoon pulls harder than a teenager on a toilet seat..its going to f@#$%& terrorise all v8 owners in oz.
the New fpv range hits the streets in oz on june 2008.
dude come on the typhoon is a bit of shit especially since they had all those eletrical faults and the coppers even sold half there fleet of the ford v8's but i won't lie they still look half decent
thats the first ive heard of it..anyway the fords build is still better.ford has always owned holden in braking & handling dept.
how bout the ls1 motors of the commodore..after 30,000km's the loose power & start burnining oil..at least ford were building the straight 6 here..and oh..& the ford v8 is virtualy hand built by ford here..especially the fpv models..they r fully hand built. they last at least!
That's a lie Holden owns Ford in the Braking Department! just look at all the HSV vs FPV Reviews. Though the Falcon Tends to handle better but not by much.
My VE 6.0 litre doesn't use oil nor has it lost power. An engine of 6.0 litre capacity is bearly breaking at 30,000km let alone 50,000km. Instead of being critical drive one. I have owned a Ford in the past and it rattled itself to death.
I didnt say the 6.0 litre in ur VE uses oil after 30,000km's.
Plz dont put words in my mouth. I said the ls1 engine was notorius for burning oil after 30,000 km's. The ls1 engine here in aust is the 5.7litre V8. The police force used these cars when they came out and almost all of them when they got to around 30,000km's lost a lot of power. I know this cause i have a good friend who is a police man on highway patrols..and he told me about it!!!
If you had either a Ford or Holden 'cop car' do you really think either would be good after 30000km. I know if that were my work car and I didn't own it I would probably drive into the ground every time I drove it. For example: get in car - start engine - wait no more than 10 seconds then boom - mash that throttle from cold. You wouldn't have a care in the world and it would be so enjoyable to take in for a service half fucked and see the reaction. I'm smiling now just thinking about it.
oh give it a break actually i dont care where it was made its still an awesome car Pontiac has got something here keep it up Pontiac!!! i'll say it again and again i love mine and so does everyone who sees and rides in it!!!
So the car is made in australia, imported to america. i fly from austrlia to america, buy the car and import it back, convert it back to left hand drive and buy the holden body parts and put them on. This would be so much cheaper than just buying this holden from my local holden dealer. So dont complain about fuel prices when american get everything so cheap
Why do Americans whinge about the price of fuel so much when they enjoy the cheapest fuel outside ameirca, most countries have double or even triple the price. Also you have the the lowest price cars. This G8 cost $30,000 in austrlia it cost $50,000 and the US and Aus dollar are almost the same. Also this car is made in austrlia so you include import cost in your price.
It would be way way cheaper for me to buy a G8 and import it here and convert to left hand drive, than to buy one here
What are you talking about in your first comment.
It would cost you a shit load more to do it that way. Do you forget how much holden charges for there parts!! Have you ever imported a vehicle before? Do you realise if a car has it steering wheel change sides it requires an engineers certificate?
and we always wonder why gas prices are rising. Good job. Keep making 5.7 L cars, instead you can make a 2+ L Turbo engine and make it efficient. I guess we Americans like cars with truck engines in them.
cant agree more. The impreza WRX STI produces almost the same power with a 2.5L engine. Now thats fucking engineering. And lets not forget the Audi S1 with a 2.1L 5 cylinder producing 600 HP. American cars are far.
Yes, but try cruising in 6th gear at 1500 RPM at 70mph getting 26-28 mpg with that Audi or Subaru. I do agree that we're facing problems with gas prices, but displacement has absolutely nothing to do with it. My is300 3 liter 6 cyl gets less mpg than my buddies 6 liter GTO...so go figure...
I just heard on TV that now that Americans are using less gas due to high prices, the oil companies are going to cut back on gas production, causing prices to go up anyway. Seems like your dammed if you use it and dammed if you don't. I say drive what you like, live fast and die happy!
you also enjoy having the cheapest fuel in the world with the exeption of the arab nations. so you just keep buying toyota corollas while the rest of us buy real cars. secondly it is 6.0L not 5.7L and in austrlia the 7.0L has just been released in the same car, keep up with that in you 2L turbo milk carton
outch alot of Pontiac comes and go in a few years. Abit late to bring the car out GM cause 300C did'nt sell as expected Gas price going up better get some miles to the gallon unless your rich.
Odd. I drink from aluminum cans. Perhaps you can help me, though. I'm having trouble locating an acuuustic guitar and finding research on nucular weapons.
Sorry...but it's always annoyed me how the word is mispronounced by Europeans, and it's rather arrogantly assumed that Americans are wrong. Check a dictionary...this is Webster's:
and american use the english language, which is oh yes, EUROPEAN!! besides im not european im australian, but americans havnt even heard of australia. and we laugh at americans everytime one is interviewed since they havnt even heard of our country, and they believe 3 million people died in the september eleven attacks. and they put a stupid spoiler and front on the gto and then ask why they didnt sell
I see you're a master of the English language. That's some sweet grammar.
You're also obviously much more intelligent than me, so I'll back off. 3 million people didn't die in September 11th? You're so informed. Australia is a real country? Geez, I wasn't aware? I thought it was the fictional backdrop for Crocodile Dundee! Next you'll tell me it's a continent, too. Seriously, guy, Americans are aware of Australia's existence. And we're aware of 9/11. And your either 15 or very stupid.
there are segments in austrlian shows that interview americans that shows examples of americans lack of geographical knowledge. Maybe you whats going on but it is obvious there are so many clueless americans, do i need to bother pointing out the president of the USA for one
And you actually find those segments believable? People who really know what's going on don't believe everything they see on TV and take what they do see with a grain of salt. Who's really the clueless one? And about the President, don't forget who he was running against, it would be REALLY stupid to choose Kerry over Bush.
poor marketing. It got more advertisement after they stopped making them than before. limited production also, 1 of 500 or less common across the board depending on the options you choose. used ones are damn good bangs for the buck. I'm sure there are still new ones sitting on lots somewhere.
the gto did poorly because pontiac took a fantastic looking car (the australian monaro) and tried to make it look like a pontiac and added a pathetic spoiler which is wrong because the car is supposed to look sleek, the spoiler looks like is came of a toyota or something crap like that
If people see this car on the road, they would be like "hey, that's a nice BMW! .....oh wait, that's Pontiac. Well, no wonder Pontiac is a BMW wannabe."
Nope, no one is jealous of Pontiac, and no one needs to be. I am not into cheap American cars like GM or Ford anyway. My BMW owns this little BMW wannabe, so thank you for your concern.
In the performance, if I were to race, then I need an M3 to compete against G8.
But truly, need I do that? No, because the majority of people obviously know which car to look if they wanted a car that makes people jealous. And obviously no one would choose Pontiac unless you are a cheap American car lover or have a messed up brain. Simple.
Or they didn't want to look like a smug wannabe in their beemer, and didn't need to buy a car based on the badge, but it's guts.
There's no replacement for displacement, and the LS2 engine is classic. Put that on a stiff chassis, decent suspension and tires, give it four doors and decent fit and finish, and you've got a world class car.
And the best thing is that many Lexus, Beemer, Infinity owners are going to get blown away by little ole' me in a cheap p.o.s. GM!
What's the point of supporting GM anyway? I'd rather support Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG over this.
GM is not even capable of building good cars but good prices, and that's why many poor Americans love this brand. Honestly, you could choose something better than this.
I could choose (and afford) something more expensive, but not something for less than $100K that's going to fit me (I'm too big for 2 door sports cars) and give me this much fun. And being born and bred in Britain I'd rather not buy German or Japanese. I know we're all allies now, but it's my choice right?
then why pull up the G8 video then? trying to see what the poor americans are up to. I bet the majority are Merc owners report their cars stolen the day after the warranty expires. good luck with your factory built "tuner car"..
german cars are more expensive initially, expensive to maintain, expensive to insure, i probably couldnt do any of the work myself, and lets face it, not everyone wants or needs an s class, 7 series z4, q7. some people dont need unecessary crap. my friend works for an audi dealer and i hear the nightmare stories he tells about their maintenance. my family has had great luck and many miles with our american cars and i plan on keeping it that way. have you taken a look at the cadillacs lately?
Actually the entire car (bar the powerplant) was designed in Australia and is simply a re-badged Holden. The engineers used the BMW M5 as a benchmark in performance and handling, and while the car may not quite be on par quality or tech-wise it is certainly not a "cheap american car".
Same principle as the GTO.. Anyone hating on this car needs to sit in a GTO. Holden material is nothing like the typical GM prdouct. This is going to look good next to the GOAT. Kinda stupid to detune the motor though. Everybody is going to go for cam swaps asap..This car should compete with 5 series BMW if they get it right..It's just wheel/tire package away from being a bad bitch.
Key word is "new" and Cadillac and Buick are luxury divisions of GM. Maybe I should have said Pontiac. Either way, GM has a stigma for using cheap plastics. I should know. I have a Tahoe also. The "new" material is much better. Every GM car I've had in the past had a very cheap feel to them that got old after a while. I'm saying the G8's interior is comparable to a GTO which is a whole new look for GM.
bleh. i can see why people are going for the lower displacement engines for performance over the V8's. why? virtually ever V8 on the road is supressed big time to get better mpg. the G6 GXP has about a 3 liter V6 and has around 260hp. almost twice the displacement and only 100hp more? i love V8's (i drive one at least for now) but they really need to make them like they used to.
You gotta remember low-pressure, naturally aspirated large capacity engines are bullet proof. You may get similar output figures from smaller blown units, but at 120,000 miles which is going to need a rebuild?
Wait a few years mate, Holden are looking at a 6.2 and 7.0 litre engines for Australian models they may hit the US. The standerd 6.0 should push out over 400 HP so suck shit, sit down and enjoy faggot
You can't even get them for that price in Australia. I bought an SS Commodore in Feb (the 6.0lt V8 model) and it cost $AU54,000! It might have been cheaper to wait and import a G8 from the states.
Holden is a gay-ass name.

Have you seen the new Cadillac CTS or Buick Enclave. These are the new typical GM products.

I'm saying the G8's interior is comparable to a GTO which is a whole new look for GM.

why was the sunfire so not great to be excited over... i love mine and it great... fuck this guy

bleh. i can see why people are going for the lower displacement engines for performance over the V8's. why? virtually ever V8 on the road is supressed big time to get better mpg. the G6 GXP has about a 3 liter V6 and has around 260hp. almost twice the displacement and only 100hp more? i love V8's (i drive one at least for now) but they really need to make them like they used to.

You gotta remember low-pressure, naturally aspirated large capacity engines are bullet proof. You may get similar output figures from smaller blown units, but at 120,000 miles which is going to need a rebuild?

When I get mine, I'm putting in the LS6 cam, COI, pulleys and turboing it. It'll pump 550bhp and still cost lots less than the BMW 550.

Wait a few years mate, Holden are looking at a 6.2 and 7.0 litre engines for Australian models they may hit the US. The standerd 6.0 should push out over 400 HP so suck shit, sit down and enjoy faggot

tiko702 4 years ago
Try 425Hp and 420 ftlbs of torque. Bye Bye G8.
Jim4575 4 years ago
try g8 gxp. the throtle body in the old 6 liter in the pontiac gto was easilly modified to get an extra 20 hp or so.
i wouldnt say HEMIs are for eggheads, theyre for hicks. and besides the new hemi isnt even a hemi, and its a daimler designed engine.

Rear wheel drive Pontiac sedan. About f*cking time!

You can't even get them for that price in Australia. I bought an SS Commodore in Feb (the 6.0lt V8 model) and it cost $AU54,000! It might have been cheaper to wait and import a G8 from the states.

i bet that the car is going to be 35k or higher
