Hey Paul! If your system crashes a lot and you have not recorded that many tracks does it mean that you need to get more RAM? How many tracks should you be able to run with plug ins on logic without it overloading? I am new to logic and have already run into the overload problem. I changed my buffer and got around it but I notice my cpu bar is still pretty far over for only running 8 tracks with effects. Just wondering why that is? I see other guys running 20 tracks with no prob. Any advice?
Paul, Thanks very much. Ironically, while your suggestions to improve CPU load were great, what seemed to have really worked was the exchange between you and @sprangful. I enable 64-bit mode, and (I assume) Logic was then able to use the extra 4GB of RAM. This seems to have decreased the load on all my projects (even those with no frozen tracks). So thank you for your work.
BTW, your delivery style in your videos is very pleasant.
Very useful video! Thanks for posting :) I constantly get this 'system overload' error which can be infuriating, especially when it happens mid way through a great vocal take! I've been working on an Imogen Heap cover recently and with over 100 tracks, I just accept I'll have to put up with the error messages!
I've been thinking of converting to pro tools 9 for a while (Im not too impressed with lots of features of logic, and its 'illogical' work flow!) Would PT9 be a better alternative? Thanks!
@tobibarnet Protools is not creative in the way that Logic is. Logic is the best choice for creating music but many like to then load it into PT for the mixdown...
Brilliant info! 'was pushing my system to the limit with a new template. Using 5 different choirs with customized effects overloaded the system even with 4 GB ram. Thanks for good advise, it gave me at least 50% back. :o)
hi - on which course do you teach the kind of production that would allow me to produce a track like the one featured in the video? Is it a full on Uni course or a more open Point Blank style course? Many thanks
@Konnekta I teach privately, at Uni & at various colleges. Send me a private message for my email & mobile number if you'd like to discuss further. Cheers.
Thank you very much for sharing this video with us. You have no idea how good it was for me. I work with a MacBook White and this computer is not very appropriate for recording lots of tracks I think, but now I can do all I want just freezing the channels that I'm done.
First, thanks for the great tutorial. Easy to follow, concise and to the point. Seeing as you're apparently a very knowledgeable Logic user, I thought i'd hit you with these questions:
1. Do you think the new i3 (3.06 gHz, 4gb ram) iMacs can handle most recording situations in Logic?
2. What interface do you use, and would you recommend for less than $700 (new or used)? I have heard the Apogee stuff (Duet) works better with Logic and sounds better than the MOTU stuff (828, 8pre).
@GuardianOfFate12 Thanks for the feedback & in answer to your questions...
1. The new iMacs are more than capable unless you're working on a huge project.
2. I swear by Apogee interfaces - I use the Duet & Ensemble. In my opinion there's absolutely nothing on the market that sounds as good as the Duet for that price. I've used MOTU interfaces many times over the years - I consider them to be very good but Apogee's converters are definitely better.

@reybeatsmusic You're welcome. Don't bother with the RAM - Logic can only handle 4GB!
MrPaulWaller 4 months ago
@MrPaulWaller If you have it in 64 bit, I think it can handle more than 4 :)
