I have delt with fruit flies and fungus gnats by screening off the 1/8" holes. I now build all my bins without the holes on top. The vents on the side allow plenty of air in. Besides that just lots of dry bedding on top.

great idea! How have you delt with the fungas gnats? They fit through a 1/8" hole easily and reproduce very fast.

Nice informative video. The background music makes it very difficult to hear you in some parts though.
