I dont think it is.. it sounds like it but remember its almost 50 yrs ago, people talked different back then. The film it self, is an amazing capture of life so many years ago through the eyes of 2 young guys going around the world for the first time.

Scenes where the surfers refer to the native's speaking as "umbagounga" is, to put it kindly, ignorant, whether the surfers are white, black, green or to use the narrator's condescending word, "primitive."

Oh, Mike .. you poor guy ..how narrow-minded you are, young man. In your mind, please, just TRY to IMAGINE what this must have been like, in 'innocent 1964', in 'still-primitive' Ghana, where no-one actually surfs, and the locals mostly haven't even seen white-men before. Look at the great-interactions that occur once the locals see what FUN surfing is. Man .. try & cultivate a broader, larger mind. It'll come anyway, the older & wiser you get - but YOU have the power to CHOOSE to accelerate it.

This movie is immortal - all just in fun .. and is about fun. Including the narration. The narration is not in the least offensive.
