  • it's four dollars a gallon now

    Where'd the times go

  • Whatever happened to Mike Hinson?

  • I would not like to be that dude at 4:54 facing that huge tank of a boat..

  • airplane wings go in the trunk

  • @camillevlg

It amazes me that if it were roles reversed and a white person commented about an apparent flaw had by blacks in the video, that person would be frowned upon as racist. But who ever heard of a black racist?

  • lmao watching them ride the wave in the canoe was pretty funny

  • Classic!

  • that was awesome, made me happy to see positive crossing cultures from surfing.

  • This is a great documentary, loved it ever since I first saw it way back when

  • oh gosh a dollar a gallon that's soooo terrible!! D:

  • Great classic non-standard movie. Much of the fun of the whole movie is the new and interesting people and situations they find themselves in at every place they go.

  • we don't see senegal ??

  • loved this movie growing up! first song I learned to play on the uke was the theme to endless summer.

  • hang ten hang ten hang ten

  • Comment removed

  • I think I heard Baba Olaungi at the end.

  • I loved this film when I was growing up. It was old then, but I watched it late at night alone, so many times. It gave me the travel bug.

  • "they'd never seen or even dreamed of anything like this...!" lol

  • it amazes me how incredible condescending (these?) white people were (are?)

  • @camillevlg These "white people" condescending? Or perhaps you're just oversensitive. Put the damn race card away, and hang ten!

  • @camillevlg

    Maybe more innocent than that.

  • @camillevlg Camille, I'm with you. It is an extremely condescending tone. I find it offensive actually, that you be told to put the race card away. But we also have to look at it in the sense that these guys were surfers, not world PC world experts on Africa.

    An interesting clip nonetheless.

  • @camillevlg Yeah now its the blacks that are condisending you dick!

  • @camillevlg

I dont think it is.. it sounds like it but remember its almost 50 yrs ago, people talked different back then. The film it self, is an amazing capture of life so many years ago through the eyes of 2 young guys going around the world for the first time.

  • Agree with "camillevlg's" view.

Scenes where the surfers refer to the native's speaking as "umbagounga" is, to put it kindly, ignorant, whether the surfers are white, black, green or to use the narrator's condescending word, "primitive."

  • Love this film. I used to get lost in it

  • who the fuck surfs in peru?

  • the whole world + peruvians

  • how narrow minded people can be...

Ghana was an english colony so the narrator should keep his stereotyped comments to himself...

forked paddles comin out to eat the surfers...amazing how stupid this is...this really put me off

  • dude, endless summer was made in 1966. if somebody said something like that today, i wouldnt fault you for being offended, but you have to view things like this in context. in 66, this was progressive.

  • the least the narrator could have done is to get some feedback on the country before spilling out all this garbage...what would u have thought if ghaneens came to surf in ur country and called u a cannibal? ok, I would understand if it was in 1703 but 1966??? c'mon wake up!!! the lack of respect for different cultures just puts me off, but thatz just my dumb worthless opinion...surfing rulez

  • Oh, Mike .. you poor guy ..how narrow-minded you are, young man. In your mind, please, just TRY to IMAGINE what this must have been like, in 'innocent 1964', in 'still-primitive' Ghana, where no-one actually surfs, and the locals mostly haven't even seen white-men before. Look at the great-interactions that occur once the locals see what FUN surfing is. Man .. try & cultivate a broader, larger mind. It'll come anyway, the older & wiser you get - but YOU have the power to CHOOSE to accelerate it.

  • mbtemlett - if you dislike this movie so much .. then just avoid watching & commenting on it. Just go elsewhere on YouTube & watch whatever grabs your fancy - but not this. This movie is immortal - all just in fun .. and is about fun. Including the narration. The narration is not in the least offensive. Actually, on closer perspective, any viewer can L-E-A-R-N a bit about the culture of Ghana & its lovely people. F-U-N !! L-E-A-R-N-I-N-G !! .. You know what those words mean, my man ??

  • man, almost a dollar for gas...

  • @brandonberg Yes, a dollar. In the USA, gas was 20 cents a gallon at that time, maybe less. It would be like paying $15/gallon now.

  • i dont get why they wouldnt have ever seen surfing before..

i mean surfing started with the hawaiians and peruvians, and other cultures who would use their canoes to ride the waves in

or so im told, but still, if they can already catch their waves with the canoe

    eh is all good

  • hawaii and peru is not in africa btw

  • yea and that are not what i meant..

    see my point?

  • lol not really. Africa is Africa.

  • all i meant is that if they could already ride a canoe into shore..

and hawaiians and peruvians already knew how to, too...and were also surfing on boards

why was it such a surprise.

    BUT ANYWAYS

    jeeeesus CHRIST

  • This film mesmerized me while I was growing up.

  • "most of the people have never seen a black man" sorry but i disagree ghana was colonised by the english.

  • This is SO politically incorrect now, but I'll forgive them, it was all done in good fun in its day and they were very respectful of the chief.

  • haha priceless

  • I wish I could pay $1 for a gallon of gas.

  • In some way americans thinks if you don't speak english or if you are not able to do the things the way they do you are a retarded or something like that...

Better start to look over your fucking sick country

  • hah, And I'm excited when the gas is only 1.16$ a litre.
