Gauthama buddha was born in lumbini, which is in present day Nepal. It is located close to the border of india. Please look at the map for its close proximity to india. Same thing with Lord Buddha. The Brahmins wrote Lord Buddha as the avatar of Hindu God Vishnu. This was a very clever tactic to bring Buddhism as part of Hinduism. The main reason was that the Brahmins feared that people will leave Hinduism because of caste discrimination in the Hindu religion. Lord Buddha even preached against caste system. The fact that Lord buddha's name is Siddartha Gautam, a very much Hindu/sanksrit in origin is a big clue enough. There is a debate regarding his birth between Nepal and India, with a counter claim that he may have been born in Orissa but I would like to leave that to the experts from both countries and not left to a bunch of emotively blind individuals instead.

But it is pretty safe to say what the most likely probabillity would be. He was a prince of the Shakya realm, capital Kapilvastu, southern flat plains of the Madhes, a mahajanapada. 2,500+ years ago. Being a prince of a janapada northern subcontinental state at that time would most likely have made him Indo-aryan in origin.

Gauthama buddha was born in lumbini, which is in present day Nepal. It is located close to the border of india. Please look at the map for its close proximity to india. However, its a universal fact that buddhism originated in INDIA as siddartha gauthama became the buddha in bodhgaya and he delivered his first sermon in Sarnath. INDIA is the first country in the world to make Buddhism the state religion ( under the patronage of indian kings Bimbisara and Ashoka) .

Lord Buddha was born as prince Siddhartha to a royal couple of Shakya dynasty in Lumbini on the full moon day of Baisakha month in 623 BC. Same thing with Lord Buddha. The Brahmins wrote Lord Buddha as the avatar of Hindu God Vishnu. This was a very clever tactic to bring Buddhism as part of Hinduism. The main reason was that the Brahmins feared that people will leave Hinduism because of caste discrimination in the Hindu religion. Lord Buddha even preached against caste system. So the Brahmin wrote Lord Buddha as avatar of Vishnu so people will continue to become Hindus. Again both Lord Buddha and Lord Shiva was from Nepal.

The fact that Lord buddha's name is Siddartha Gautam, a very much Hindu/sanksrit in origin is a big clue enough. But it is pretty safe to say what the most likely probabillity would be. He was a prince of the Shakya realm, capital Kapilvastu, southern flat plains of the Madhes, a mahajanapada. 2,500+ years ago. Being a prince of a janapada northern subcontinental state at that time would most likely have made him Indo-aryan in origin.

Later when Aryan people arrived in the foothills of the Himalayas, the Brahmins adopted Lord of Kirat Paruhang Mahadev and give him Sanskrit name, Shiva, Rudra and Bolenath. The Brahmin then put Lord Paruhang(shiva) as the part of trinity(brahma-vishnu-shiva) in Hinduism.

Did you even know that Lord Parauhang gave his blessing and his weapon to Arjun because Arjun prayed to him before the start of Mahabharata war even when Lord Paruhang Mahadev knew that he was putting danger to Kirati. It does not matter a bit where Lord Buddha was born. I will gladly except it if he was born in China too. Lord Buddha is still Lord to me. And my friends are still my friends in India and around the world. This is the only honesty I can keep in this world full of hurt people.

@diliprai i repeat , Buddha was born in Lumbini which is located about 2 km from Indian border, which is part of Nepal now. I doubt the historicity of nepal being a completely sovereign kingdom in those days, as indian and nepali religions, cultures are almost the same and the fact that Buddha came to Varanasi and spent the rest of his life there points to the fact that nepal was one of the several princely kingdoms in bharath varsh with allegiance to the kingdom of Magadh and was NOT sovereign.

@princxan yes Lord Buddha was born in ancient India but then the ancient India was part of Kiratdesh or which is Nepal today.

If nepalis want to beat their chests about buddha's place of birth, may be Indians can do the same about buddha's place of enlightenment - BodhGaya, Place of his first sermon-Sarnath, Place of his death - Kushinagar; ALL in India. What is all this hate between nepalis and indians on buddha's birth place?. I am Indian and i know buddha was born in Nepal.In Buddha's time, Lumbini was a park situated between Kapilavastu and Devadaha in India. It was there that the Buddha was born. A pillar now marks the spot of Indian emperor Asoka's visit to Lumbiní.That said what is now called as Nepal was called as kingdom of Kirat which was part of Ancient India, which also includes Taxila-now pakistan, Gandhara-now Afghanistan.

@princxan you wrong. Kiratdesh(later to become Nepal) was never part of Bharatvarsha(later to become India). You need to realize that Nepal first King Yalamber even fought the Indian invasion into the Himalayas region. Kirat King Yalamber and another Kirat King Bhagatdatta of Pragjyotisha(later to become Assam) are mentioned in the Mahabharata war fighting against Pandavas Kings who who were marching in conquest of others territory. With that Lord Buddha was born in NEPAL.
