  • you forgot to discuss stray shots, with people who close their eyes in anticipation of the "BANG"

  • Thanks for the video! For years I shot low and left.........now just low. (my grip was the culprit in both cases, adjusted it to get rid of shooting left, but it's still tight, now I know why I'm still low!) After my next trip to the range I'll let you know how I've done!

  • don tursh me!

  • Thanks for the video. I'm hitting all over the place and I think my mistake is I'm focusing too much on the target. I'll try to focus on the front sight next trip to the range.

  • Very good video. Thanks

  • can u tell me what video it is called where the cop fires 15 shots at one guy and doesnt hit him?

  • this is what i was looking for you explained how to correct the problems i was having earlier today thank you!

  • very helpful.

  • I would love to see more of this type. More advanced troubleshooting and techniques.

  • @Derpmeat08 I'll take the request and see what I can come up with. If you have any more suggestions, feel free to email me.

  • Congrats, this video is the first to come up when trying to find a way to troubleshoot Youtube.

    Thus, testing.

  • Nice points. noted.

  • excellent, a great help.

  • That is great info! You solved two of my shooting issues in 5 min that I have spend way too much time and money trying to fix myself. Thank you

  • @neoPhillipW Glad to hear someone else say that I know what I'm talking about. lol

I'm trying out for History Channel's Top Shot. Wish me luck.

  • Wow, I never comment on videos but I've been shooting to the left for years... just compensated by aiming more right... and this solved the problem.

  • @munk3y2002 Great! Happy to help.

  • nice video!

  • Wonderfully informative! Will work gratefullly on all these things.

  • I found this video very informative.

The problem that I'm having, is that after my first round, the screen went black.

Although I believe that I was right on target, I have no way to know now.

Can you upload more targets for me?

    Thanks!

  • this is a great video man!!!

  • omg i think u might have cured me ill let you know i wasnt using enough finger!!!!!

  • @TheChamberofFarts Well? Are you cured?

  • @TheChamberofFarts That's what she said! XD

  • This one's a keeper..thanks for the advice. The sight stays sharp (and on target) the target can blur, some. My shooting is better already.

  • I shot my XDM .45 for first time on range and I kept shooting about 6" low for some reason. I re adjusted my grip several times but no improvement. you thing it could Springfield XDM itself ? its a brand new.

  • @gtvapsamtik No. I had the same issue 2 days ago with my new Sig P250-40. My issue was grip. If low, as this guy states, your over gripping or anticipating.

  • @gtvapsamtik I think you're just overgripping the pistol. No matter how high up you are on the backstrap, if you tighten your whole hand as you pull the trigger, you'll hit low. Relax, grip it like a firm handshake... nothing more.

  • Excellent video. I needed this advise and can wait to see my results the next time I go down to the range. ? I have a large hand and when I shoot my snub nose revolver I can't use my first finger pad on my trigger finger beacause of the size of the gun. Should I get a wider rubber grips to take up the slack so I can use the first part of my finger on the trigger? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Thank you so much, I went to the range for the first time today, and pretty much confirmed my speculation on why my shots were off, Over-gripping and anticipating the shot and to much finger in the trigger

  • great vid thanks.

  • boom

  • The wheel of misfortune.....finally in words. not just a picture....5 stars.

  • Thank you. Great advice.

  • As a Law Enforcement instructor for over 10 yrs. Finally a You-tube video where someone knows what he is talking about. Nice job.

  • I am going for my CCDW license tomorrow and this was very helpful. For today as I was practicing, I was hitting lower than what I was aiming for. Thanks.

  • wow glad i didnt spend $30 on a dumb video.... Thanks for the info.. I got a 1911 .45acp and been dropping rounds a little low and to the left :) i cant wait to see if its my grip and finger depth. i had been shooting 9mm sub compact and never had an issue with shoot :( thanks again i'll let u know if i get it fixed

  • how did it work your you? i got the same problem

  • Can't wait to visit the range again so I can try out what I've learned from this video..

  • Thank you for the help.

  • After watching this video, I gained a lot of knowledge and my shot went went from not so good to dead on. I don't really comment people stuff but I had to on this one. Thanks dude, your the man.

  • This guy knows his shit!

  • Thanks for the tips

  • thanks for posting this vid! I have a 1911 and it's so much easier to shoot a good group, but my springfield xd and glock guns I am having a lot of problems with, always shooting to the right. (i'm left handed).

    thanks again

  • Very Helpful Video, Thanks! For some reason, my first shot with the Double Action is high, rather than low, even though I think my grip is pretty strong (my follow up shots single action are on target). Am I flinching?

  • Hmm. Maybe you're focused so much on your trigger control that you're letting your wrist loosen up, which would affect your follow through and let the muzzle kick the gun up before the shot exits, causing you to hit high.

My best 2 tips for you or anyone having trouble shooting double action:

1)Get a stress ball and squeeze it to strengthen your hand, grip and wrist

2)Fire double action only in practice for a while. Fire, decock, fire, decock, fire...

  • If I had you as a student in person, I would try a ball and dummy exercise and we'd find out immediately if you were flinching or not.

  • Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I will definitely try them.

  • One problem you didn't address is what I do sometimes, where I'll put two rounds on target and one off, usually high. What about that? Great video, by the way.

  • I'm no expert. But may be it's because you're pulling trigger again, before the pistol comes back to normal position after recoil.

  • I'd need to know if the round off target was the first shot or a follow up shot.

If its the first shot, look at what I wote to pyotrpumpkinhead. If its a follow up shot, theonewayroad01 is probably right and you just need to slow down and make sure you're getting a good sight picture everytime. Make sure you're grip and stance are comfortable and consistent.

  • Quality video thanks

  • that's me... consistenly low and to the left.

I did notice that I was kinda milking the grip. but as far as how much finger I have on the trigger, I think it's just right. I think I'll have my sights checked next time.

thanks for the video, very informative.

  • ..I was consistantly shooting 8" low at 30 ft. Everybody said it was me..I finally took the pistol to a gunsmith with 30 years of pistol shooting experiance and let him shoot. Sure enough ...8" low.....my new sights are in the mail....the factory rear sight was way to low for this pistol. Something I would like to know....what is the correct point of impact when all 3 dots on the sight are in perfect alignment? Should it be 30ft, or furthur out?

  • At a distance of 30', you're not going to see much in the way of bullet drop, there's just not that much time in the air. If you have perfect sight picture, shooting at say an FBI Q target like that in the video, you should hit the bottom of the Q or just below it.

  • ...I had a set of tritium sights installed. I'm shooting quite well now both single and double action. The factory rear sight was to low as well as both the front and rear sight not centered on the slide causing my shot group to end up right of center. Thanks for your input, I'm getting good groups at 30 and 50 feet.

  • good vid.

or you could just buy a laser!

  • I know you're just trying to be funny, but lasers are a crutch. They teach you bad habits, they teach you to look at the target instead of your front site. Then what happens if the battery goes dead? You lose time searching for that red dot on the target, you forget to use the front site, you fire and miss, you may hit people other than your target, and your chances of dying yourself go up.

Lasers are fun toys, but don't rely on them.

  • Perfect well paced explanations. Nice vid thanks...

  • very good video keep up the good work.

  • great advice... i'm definately going try these tips out. thank you!!

  • On my all my pistols I always shoot low and to the left. I'm not WAY off. I get phenominal groups and place right next to the bullseye. Bad thing is that I compensate my shots by aiming right. I also flushed my rear sights to the left to compensate. That's just a bad way to correct my own habits. I'll center my sights again, loosen my grip, and put more meat on the trigger. Thanks bro.

  • check this out.

have someone load your clip, putting a dummy round in the magazine. when you shoot you don't know where the dummy is, and you will see if you flinch when you pull the trigger. with practice you can eliminate your flinch.

  • That's a great suggestion. Ball and dummy drills are a great way to test yourself.

    Thanks for commenting/watching!

  • good tips! Now i know i need to grip a little tighter...nice.

  • isn't double action just a bonus so you dont have to have it cocked wile you carry in like in a single action you would. And you can shoot your double action gun as single action all the time, double action is just a bonus.

  • Its not a "bonus" its just how the gun is designed. Having a single action gun isn't a problem or an inconvenience. A single action gun, such as a 1911 or a Springfield XD, has a more consistent trigger pull which makes it more accurate on that first shot. The 1911 would also require you to take the slide lock safety off before you could fire. Its a question of preference, both will certainly do the job of self defense.

  • Ye, but you dont have to de cock your double action gun so you can use is as single action all the time and always have a consistent trigger pull, thats why I said the double action

    is like a bonus

  • You'll find that most, if not all, of my videos are about concealed carry and practical self defense. A 1911 has a slide lock safety which makes it safe to holster in condition one. A double action pistol, like our Rugers, is not designed to be put in the holster with the hammer back. True, on the range you can fire it single action all the time. Understand that in reality, if you need to use that Ruger to defend your life, you need to get used to firing the first shot double action.

  • I agree, but I just use the pistol for target practice

  • I live out in the country, nothing to defend myself from but coyotes

  • I got my wife a Gripmaster to get her hand strength up. It's usually used by guitar players, but hand strength is hand strength.

    Good video. Thanks.

  • wow thats great but what your email bro.

  • thanks for another great vid
