People are saying that the woman was basically okay with him being there, because she didn't outright kick him out. However, as far as I understand it, Japanese woman or Japanese people in general have trouble saying no. Actually traditionally Chinese characters (which Japanese uses) are written right to left for signs, names of companies. But other than that, they were (and still are) written from top to bottom, right to left. Magazines and books use that style or the more common Western left to right format. It's just a matter of preference really. Trying to emulate the traditional top to bottom, right to left format is a bit difficult on websites so no one bothers using it in the IT sector.
