  • Tony looks great here. Handsome guy, really nice voice.

  • Graham Nash and the Hollie - purrlease I dont think so

  • Well I have always been a Hollies fan, but in my opinion Nash totally ruins this version> He was the start of the band, but was clearly past his best by 1983.

I have seen them recently and they are back to their best: okay so no Nash or Clarke, but I think the better for that> the Hollies are known for their vocals, and if two of the members cannot do it anymore, more than glad to bring in new ones

  • @Marko661 Bobby & Tony are past their best too, so perhaps we should get a group of 20 year olds together & create the ultimate Hollies... : /

  • Nash is trying to sing over the other boys in this song. He likes to be the front guy when he is in the band. I just think Alan is a great guy. He lets the other band mates take credit even though he is the main voice of the group.

  • Nash really stinks in this, of course what else is new.

  • @echosyst Thank you Terry! ; )

  • thought it was '81

  • @MattMoon100 Definitely not. The only TV reunion with Nash in '81 was 'Top Of The Pops'.

  • The keyboard player, I'm pretty sure, is Kim Bullard, who had just finished a stint in Poco earlier that year and was touring with Nash in CS&N. Never knew he did the 1983 U.S. TV appearances with the Hollies. On the '83 tour the keyboards were handled by Hollies regulars Paul Bliss and Peter Arnesen.

  • clarkes voice had already started to go by this time--thats why the new vocal arrangements

  • Can someone tell me who the keyboard player is? I have a feeling I know who it is but want it confirmed. Thanks in advance!!

  • Sorry Chas I suspected(wrongly) you were from the States and having a little dig at the British band ! I think we are probably more in agreement with each other than not ...best wishes from a very long time Hollies fan.

  • @b44ts Hehe! Incidentally I'm Peter Checksfield, the guy who uploaded this (I'm using my other YouTube account).

  • Will have bow to your better knowledge about any influence GN has with that body. Although they all give lip service during the ceremony I doubt that it means that much to them to get the award when they have been in the business almost 50 years without getting the award ! And the actual current group were playing the London Palladium at the time and did not even attend, so it may be a case of an "Old farts" outing...I am sure it was not ...

  • @b44ts What I meant is that The Hollies were only inducted because the British bloke from CS&N used to be in them... Though disappointing it was not to see Tony & Bobby there, I'm inclined to agree with them that playing an already booked gig at The London Palladium was of more importance. To many UK music fans (myself included) the R&RHoF is meaningless anyway, as it ignores those acts that have had great success & influence everywhere outside the USA if they had little impact in the USA...

  • @ChasNDaveVideos ...Acts like Cliff Richard (the most successful singles act of all time), The Shadows, The Small Faces, Status Quo, Jethro Tull, Slade, Deep Purple, The Jam, The Smiths & so many others.

  • @ChasNDaveVideos The British bloke from CSN will probably get into the RRHOF three times because of his services to music. Like Nashie, the Hollies deserved to get in there and it was a long time coming because it was so easy to take them for granted in the 60's.

  • @ChasNDaveVideos- I'm an American fan but... I agree with you that the RRHOF is pretty meaningless. So many groups have been ignored by the Hall. The Hollies finally got in after being snubbed for years. Other great American groups such as Tommy James & The Shondells, Johnny Rivers and Three Dog Night have been totally snubbed by the Hall of Shame. Ron

  • Mmmh, I think Nash was being "sucked upto" by someone ! Listen to him shouting out his "introductions to Tony and then Ken ? during the song. Personally I find him very opinionated and always has plenty to say, listen to him going on and on at the RHF induction to the Hollies.

  • @b44ts Maybe, though if it wasn't for Graham The Hollies would never have got in the R&RHoF of course.

  • @b44ts Nash always takes over when he's with the rest of the group. Check out the 1983 interview w/the group on you tube. Nash does most of the talking b4 finally calling on the others to answer when he tells them to. He even talks about the recording of He Ain't Heavy--which he had NOTHING to do with! Did you notice the intro to the song? Graham Nash & the Hollies--that's some sucking up alright!

  • I thought it was awful, Nash's vocals were far too prominent, no doubt the group had to "suck up to him" for the US audience. The Nash era needed to be left back in 1968 as the Hollies became a much tighter vocal unit with Terry Sylvester singing harmony and the recorded music was far more grown up once GN left.

  • @b44ts Nothing to do with anyone sucking up to anyone else, just whoever was responsible for mixing the sound at the TV show screwing up.

  • @b44ts Too much Nash drowning out Allan & Tony. This should've been left back in 1968 with the white suits the Hollies used to wear (they were Nash's idea & then he said they were one of the reasons he HAD to leave the group.) The harmonies were MUCH better with Terry Sylvester and their biggest hits were with Terry, also.

  • @heymaryann1 Long live Graham Nash. The microphone settings were at fault, clearly.

  • I'd love to see Nash, Sylvester, Clarke, Elliott, Calvert & Hicks perform this song as the Hollies... I see it now... Clarke-VCL, Nash-ACSTC GTR, Sylvester- 12STG GTR, Hicks- LD GTR & Calvert & Elliott well u should kno

  • 1:29 Tony! Behave yourself.

  • Tony Hicks was the shit man!

  • Funny, Crosby, Stills and Nash had just did Southern Cross before this.

  • Does ANYONE know what TV Special this was taken from?? I had a VERY old vhs copy of this recorded right off tv that i watched till I wore the tape out! it was hosted by Dr. Johnny Fever (Howard Hessman) and also had live performances from the Ronettes (90% sure) X (100% sure), a hybrid of Jefferson Starship/Airplane - they did Jane. And of course lots of clips from the original songs - it was like MTV for good music before MTV became - the broadcast abortion it is now.

  • @77smilesandhits It was called 'Supernight of Rock & Roll', & also featured Chuck Berry & Franki Valli amongst others (no Ronettes exactly - just Ronnie Spector, Darlene Love & Martha Reeves).

  • @ChasNDaveVideos I was close! don't suppose you have it?!?!?

  • @77smilesandhits Might have been Sha Na Na's tv show. Ronnie Spector was on it. The video is on Youtube.

  • @frictiondrivebikes as you stated "The video is on Youtube. Well this is YouTube.

  • Even today I would run right pass a free Beatles show to pay and see the Hollies..

  • You're amazing, Peter...it's awesome. Too bad the mikes were out of balance, making the harmony a bit top-heavy....our Hollies deserve perfect amp!!! p.s. Allan's too bloody handsome for words!!.

  • Prefects ? It says "governors" in the dictionary. Somebody help me out. English school teacher???

  • @DrHogfan In the context of schools, a prefect is a pupil who has been given limited authority over other pupils in the school, similar to the authority given to a hall monitor or safety patrol member.

In many British and Commonwealth schools, prefects, usually students in fifth or seventh years, have considerable power and effectively run the school outside the classroom.

  • @boogiefever1985 thanks for the info. I wondered if the song had something to do w/ Marianne Faithful once hanging out w/ the Hollies then moving on to The Stones????

  • @DrHogfan You're correct. Graham Nash has explained that the song was written about Marianne Faithful.

  • @boogiefever1985 I had heard that and figured since she ended up w/Jagger that the reference to "older boys & prefects" was about the Stones but I didn't know if she had any relationship early on w/ the Hollies. Thanks

  • @DrHogfan What made you think that older boys and prefects was to do with the Stones?

  • Great to see Graham Nash singing with the Hollies again and great to see that group chemistry. Only complaint is that Tony Sylvestor who replaced Nash when he left the group and did a fine job as they continued to generate hit after hit seems to be left out of or ignored in this video. Despite being witht he Hollies over 30 years it seems like he is still treated like a sendary member of the band, at least by the media. I Love Graham Nash but Tony has been with the group way longer.

  • @skierbarry I think you're getting confused here: TERRY (not Tony) Sylvester replaced Nash in late 1968, but left the band (never to return) in 1981; however TONY Hicks has been there since the beginning, & is still with them today almost 50 years later!

  • @skierbarry Tony is Tony Hicks, the third man on Hollies harmony. As for Sylvester - he left before the great Graham Nash briefly rejoined the group and is nowhere to be seen on this video.

NO ONE could EVER replace the great Graham Nash.

  • @skierbarry

Still fun, great music. My kids love it!!!!

  • All right! Harmonies personified.

    Thanks, Peter.

  • Peter - you should be working for RRHOF - they haven't done the heavy lifting of research to find some of these great interviews and clips! Thanks from a lifelong Hollies fan!

  • Glad to see this back up! Thanks for the upload.

  • Thanks Peter for sharing this wonderful video! It's good to see the originals back together in this video! Ron

  • They gotta balance things out even though we in the States knew and connected with Graham best and even though this is/was a song featuring him prominently. Nice rarity though; you know I like him!
