flawless at 1:00 it sounds better if your slow it down and like idk how to say but express that part it makes the song seam like so much more. Great job!
lol she cant play octaves with one hand and she is playing this wow
god people. she's not a prodigy theres a bunch of kids that can do this if they pratice ALOT. prodigy's are people who can write music compose music and PLAY it. not just playing it. anyone can do that!!
@sprluver1234 It's a fair challenge. You probably didn't see the symphony she wrote when she was 10 years old, which won top prize in the 18 years old and under ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards. It's posted on the channel.
This is played extremely well.... and at 6 years old!! I'm playing this with my teacher now and I'm 16! I love the song and I just hope you are able to really love the songs you play at such a young age. Because to me loving and feeling the music is an important part of playing piano. You should want to play music and not be forced, so I hope this is true for you. If you love it, keep playing because you are very very good!
Evidently little Anna was a better musician at the age of 6 then I will ever be in my entire life. So long as I can listen to her play, I won't let it bother me though.
PS: Disliking this video is like hitting yourself with a hammer;
I don't understand why anyone would do it intentionally.
Considering her age, this is really impressive. But the piece needs a lot of minor improvments, such as an increase in tempo and a few issues with the dynamics. The notes are all there in the right place, but the piece is far from how Debussy intended.
Anna, you are so talented! Watching and hearing you play inspires me to continue my piano playing. Continie to share your amazing gift with everybody!! Best wishes!!
It's that pesky piano teacher again...after all, I do this for a living. I want to balance the positive with the negative, so: good rotational technique in beginning, fingers more developed than in Bach Invention, excellent learning skill, but musical aspects still elude Anna--almost no dynamics, no "breathing", no Debussyan sound or touch or apparent understanding of what the piece is about. "Le petit negre" by the same composer would have been a better choice for her at this stage.
Yes, well you're right. Breathing was a concept she hadn't been introduced to yet, and dynamic contrast in a 6 year old is very hard, since they have no arm weight. But these videos track her musical evolution through the years 5 to present. Dynamic contrast and breathing are still things we're working on. Also working on how to breathe so it sounds natural and not like a hiccup. Also, details of arm weight and articulation. All sophisticated ideas beyond just the notes. Thanks!
Thank you for your friendly reply. So many parents get defensive when their children are criticized. I am not only a piano teacher but I periodically judge childrens' piano competitions and auditions so I've had experience with that sort of thing. I can see that Anna is growing steadily in her artistry and technical skill. There should be plenty of repertoire for her now which is ambitious but which she can master. The Bach French Suite & the Mozart & Haydn should be great!
Yes, I think one objective with Anna was finding a couple pieces that would challenge her "inner ear" with new impressionistic harmonies. The deeper understanding comes a bit later, but it's good to build a foundation for the inner ear early. That's kind of the idea.
I am taking lessons for 3 years now...i have been instructed by the world renound pianist George Darden and he said it should sound like water and that is how i have played this piece many of times by making it sound like water, and the middle sections where it changes into B flat then to D flat it is supposed to be much slower than the beginning and the last parts...this doesnt sound like that
This recording was made over three years ago. Anna has returned to this piece again recently. An interesting recording to listen to (which we recently discovered) is Rachmaninoff's. It's wonderfully different from what you normally hear. Check it out.
@LarsenPiano: I appreciate your comment about challenging the "inner ear." When I studied piano, I played some of Bartok's Mikrokosmos works for piano. Since those used scales and modes not typically found in Western European music, it "stretched" my ears and sense of tonality. Even now in my musical taste, I may alternate between old favorites and craving a new sound. Trying to get my head around Mahler's symphonic works has that challenging effect...
@RadioFreeSpike I'm glad you appreciated that comment. No one has ever affirmed that idea, though I've stated it many times! People want to drill Czerny, which is so boring for kids, it's a barren Sahara of musical ideas that dry up the inner ear. Thanks so much for your suggestion about the Bartok. That's not one we have looked at, and we'll check it out.
lol. I just picked up piano again, and picked up a copy of children's corner suite. I was reading through the music, and thought I'd better check out youtube to see how the pieces should sound and should be played. little did I know I'd learn from a 6 y/old!
Thanks for the note! For mature "musical interpretation", definitely check out Rachmaninoff's recording. Someone posted his recording on YouTube. The sound quality isn't great (probably from 1930's) but you can hear all the phrasing and everything!
We've seen Lang Lang live 3 times at Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall. We enjoy his performances very much! This recording was made before we understood much about phrasing. If you check out her more recent Debussy Snow is Dancing video, I hope you'll hear better phrasing.
incredible! she certainly has the touch.
