@usaswim323 wellll... learning how to spell words means learning a lot of words and all of the information about them. so i'd say if you know all those words from doing a spelling bee, along with their definitions and whatnot, it could increase your vocabulary in your regular speech and in formal writing quite a bit (:

the Spelling Bee is not a waste of time, ok? and i am not pointing out the someone here who commented that. It is not rubbish and it definitely isnt pointless. it helps kids learn words and it increases vocabulary and it makes you smarter so take ur stupid comment somewhere else. ur just jealous!

congrats kavya ! u did extremely well :) my name's nidhi chugh and i participated in a spelling bee at the national level conducted by ESPN for the 1st time in india ! same as Scripps! plz do watch me on tv when its broadcasted. its name is ESPN STAR SPORTS SPELLING CHAMPS 2009. i came till the top ten ! my rank is 7th among 52 contestants frm all over india. it will soon b broadcasted on ESPN at the international level so plz do watch me . dunno when dates still not confirmed.
