You know what all that paper promissory note (paper bill) will do to US economy. With every new $100 bill printed, your $100 bill in your pocket or in your bank account has just depreciated by 50% to $50. If there is only one $100 bill in the market, it is valuable. As soon as the bank prints 10 more $100 bills and circulates it into the market, that original $100 bill suddenly loses its value by tenfold. Now your $100 bill will only buy you $10 worth of goods instead of $100 worth of goods.
Re-printing and furtherdeveloping banknotes is necessary because of making it more difficult to counterfeit (since the counterfeiters do also step forward with techological benefits). Secondly, banknotes do use up, become ugly, sputty, suttered, squeezed, ripped, flaw in print with time. So, a periodical renewal of certain amounts of circulating money is needed to keep it usable.
For a replacement, exactly the amount of bad banknotes being destroyed is re-inserted new into circulation.
You have just witnessed the Federal Reserve's COUNTERFEIT operations with interest to us gullible Americans. The non-stop printing press and coming QE3 is reason to own REAL Money - silver & gold!! -STFM
i cannot believe american so stupid.. those new bill don't look like american money. those look like russian vietnam or Irag money bill. dumbass. those old bill has beautiful disign and beautiful architecture it look America bill. if people try to make fake they still can make copy with those old bill anyway. dumb ass american.
@PurpleHeart1 Money is not made out of paper from trees. They are made from cotton and linen (also known as flax). If this goes on, we are going to run out of clothes!
Just recently, 1/3 of these bills have bumped into problems with sporadic creasing. I wonder if those bills are going to be replaced with Star Notes. That would be awesome!
@aaronbassplyr and Rliang01 don't forget the cost it has on the US government to increase the national debt. Money is created out of debt in this day of age. For every bill that is made, that same amount is owed in the form of debt. Therefore it costs $100.12 plus interest to make a hundred dollar bill.
@blacktooth51 A dollar is a current unit of currency used in USA and many other nations. Right now, the dollar has value. However, inflation has slowly degraded it. There is no intrinsic value in a paper dollar. The only intrinsic value available is in the form of coins and metals. Changing the design of currency will not improve the economy. All it does is maintain a few government jobs and hopelessly try to increase confidence in our currency. However, I find the redesigned bills to be pretty.
Gotta love how they make so much of it gold. Considering that it is NOT backed by it. NOR ANYTHING. Get ready for hyperinflation kids they are printing trillions and who wants it???? NOBODY!
Is this a good thing to go to the gold standard with paper money. Where is the actual backing. Why is Tim Geithner got anything to do with it. I do not trust this at all. I thought the banks would be backed by gold and the paper money would go away forever. Please educated me.
Back to the gold standard then, people the gold and silver market is now still a steal. Iether you have some gold or silver to protect your wealth and make it throught the monatary collapse or you have none and you will have to ride it out. You should read up on the tekt on the bill, its right out of the constitution. Not long now.
@TheReallitycheck That is what i was wondering also the writting comes out from the constitution. Almost everything on the right side of the bill is in gold lettering. My hunch is 25%-50% of the dollars worth will be backed by Gold. Apparently the currency will go into circulation by Feb 10 2011. The United States will not allow our currency to loose its world Currency reserve status. If our dollar is backed by gold. Gold will go up in value big time.
@TheCashistrash Not a chance. The gold standard will be global. The USD has already lost reserve status. Just not officially yet. Quite clearly the euro is the reserve.
This is the best design they ever made for US currency. It took too long, but I'm amazed! They used azure, lavender, shiny gold color, as well as a cool hologram and 3-D security strip. I wonder what kind of microprinting they'll be using. What will they come up next?
In the AP comments above "Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke says it's part of an effort to stay ahead of counterfeiters" .............Um, the Federal Reserve is printing money out of thin air (there is no assets to back these Federal Reserve notes) ........wouldn't that make them the counterfeiters!
@KingofSkullkid452 eh, I think you zone out and don't even see it as real money at that point... its a goofy design that's not in circulation yet, and the serial numbers consecutive and marked.
LOL, the only people printing money by the trillions is the "Federal Reserve!" This is just an excuse to tell the public that somehow people are still counterfeiting!
Why is the Federal Reserve a private company? The cost of making a bill is 4 cents and then they sell it for face value. Profit to the Fed, debt for the people.
Don't create anymore paper bills, just use credit cards/debt cards/re-usable cards. Plastic is the way, just ask any blond bimbo with a rack and they'll agree.
Printed out of thin air by the fed reserve and sold to America at face value plus interest, what a racket.I never understood why we would by our own money at face valuejust give em 10% for costs and profit and we couild never have a deficit. The national debt is illegitemate as we bought something for full face value with nothing actually givin or risked by the fed reserve.
@samhamels You must think pretty small, sorry. I wouldn't "steal" those, unless it was a truckload, of them. I would want enough, to buy an island, and live in total independant, comfort, for the rest of my life. The idea of stealing a few hundred grand, and looking-over my shoulder the rest of my life, is a non-atarter.
