  • Does anyone know what album is this off? I can't seem to find it...

  • The original version was by The Zombies, however this version has always been superior. I bought the 45 when it came out and still have it.

  • Thank you - I love seeing the young Larry Norman!

  • I was 12 in '69. My neighbor Joe and I were camping in the backyard, eating junk food and pointing my AM/FM radio antenna about trying to receive whatever new sounds we could find. Suddenly the spooky intro came in focus, and despite the yucky "I love you" sentiment, we were entranced.

Then the adenoidal "...And I don't know WHAT to sayeeyay!" line hit, and we erupted into gales of laughter which were just subsiding when it hit again, sending us into hysterics with each pass.

    Ah, innocence...

  • This is the best version. Better than the Zombies. This was a staple on the psychedelic music show in Atlanta on WPLO-FM back in 1968.

  • 1969

  • Heard this today on XM

  • The lead singer is the current lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Re-visited.

  • Je préfère l'original ! The zombies !!!

  • i remember denny from pomona in the mid 60's

  • remember Denny from the group back in pomona mid 60's

  • I remember this song but had no idea it was a cover of a zombies song, that would explain why they never were able to follow up after doing such a cool song

  • The Zombies do a really good version of this.

  • @PsychLion The Zombies did the original. It's great!

  • OMG Ancestry...I would think i wrote your post. I lived in Chicago during this time and I did the exact thing every night. Loved this song then...and still do!!!

  • I use to lay in bed at night, as a early teen, my transistor radio under my pillow, and waited for my radio station, WLS Chicago to play this song. Then I could fall asleep. Wouldn't ever take very long to happen! Loved this song!

  • @7304Ancestry

OMB Ancestry..I would have bet I wrote your post. I was living in Chicago then also and did the EXACT same thing every night. Loved this song then...and still do. Thanks for sharing...brought back great memories!

  • Popular song when I was in High school...Thanks for posting!

  • Worst ever. Sux!

  • Real great song....reminds me of my old girlfriend who I am trying to find. I need youtube help. From the mid 70's Cathy Hinds who went to Trade High School. Any ideas? Thanks folks.

  • I had forgotten all about this song .. what a great treasure I just found. Though I remember it being better .

  • ha! awesome sixties breakdown at 1:18

  • jimmy fallon

  • @stickystickyearlstik thats where i herd of them haha

  • ...But what I didn't know was that this song was originally recorded by The Zombies.

  • I remember seeing this either on American Bandstand; think it was this, but it might have been on Paul Revere and Mark Lindsey's "Happening". Anyone here remember that show?

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ZOMBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved this song as a kid and it's great to find it on here ♥ Thanks conkyjoe! Can't believe how clear the video is for it's age,and the sound is great as well! Great job and much appreciated! Great memories from my teen years ♥

  • *o*

  • I remember this song as a kid. I loved it then and still do. For years I sang this in pieces but never could remember the rest of the song or who sang it. After about 20 years my EX told me who it was, I instantly went to Youtube and HERE IT IS! The zombies are great but this version is the Best! Whoever PEOPLE are, Thanks for this song and the memories! Great Song! Juniquejulie

  • I remember hearing this as a kid...our local AM station would play the version with the long trippy intro. The DJ would give the weather report as that intro played.

  • I love this song! My favorite radio station played it one day and have been obsessed

With it ever since. It brought back memories.

  • Sorry but I heard that The zombies made the cover of this It isnt true?

    Thanks for post conkyjoe.

  • Not true in that the Zombies did it first (Zombies bassist Chris White wrote the song). The promo mix featured here follows the Zombies' version fairly closely, as opposed to the full length version People featured on the commercial single (and later LP) which added a lengthly introductory segment.

  • The lead singer went on to be big in the Christian Music Market. This vidio is far better than most of that vidios i see from that period

  • I loved this song forever both this one (I have found the single Somebody tell me my name is the flip side which I like to play before or after Noel harrison's Life's just a dream) Never knew there was a promo film with it. Thanks for posting!

  • how can words explain how i feel because there aren't any to explain my true feelings.

  • wow a powerful and deep song that gets stuck in my head thanks for posting this buddy

  • I have always loved this song and just found out that this band is from my city, San Jose!! Awesome!

  • Nice song however this version is missing the first verse.

  • Although the commercial single ran album length, the song was remixed and edited for the promo single which is the version used here. (The commercial single mix fades abruptly on the final note whereas the promo mix has a proper cold ending.) Interestingly, Larry Norman used the promo version for his 1986 compilation LP Down Under... but not out.

  • wow, awesome, this video is nice and crisp for its age, thanks

  • I found it

  • I have been looking for this for many years. Fin Fantastic. I have the original album and it is scratched and scratched. The long version was our cruising song when they played it on the Old AM radio back in the day!

  • this is a better version than the Zombies ,who wrote it

  • Well maybe but it was a direct copy of Colin'and Rod's style. One of the happiest musical moments of my life was to see the touring Zombies perform this song life.

  • Excellent............love it.......

  • Psicodelicooooo!!!

  • ".....I loooooooove you..." love it! Thanks for sharing one of my favorite songs from my high school days in the San Fernando Valley.

  • The last 14 years that Larry was alive, he lived in the same town and state I live in: Salem, Oregon.

Out of where he lived, he liked Salem, Oregon the best, so he ended up staying.

  • Very nice!! I had the privilege of seeing People! reunite for the San Jose Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Right before Larry Norman passed away. A magical performance indeed and truly something special to have seen live!!

  • 2 thumbs!!

  • Heard about this for 30 years. Great to finally see it. Thanks for sharing.

Intersting once again that music video existing long before MTV. Ironically, its hard to find music videos on MTV now.

  • Christian artist Larry Norman did leave this Earth behind earlier this week...this song was a good cover version..guitar riff was cool...vocals a bit overdone(by Norman). I do prefer the Zombies version, overall...

  • rip

  • Larry Norman passed away on Sunday 2/24/08 at the age of 60.

  • I love you was composed by the Zombies. But i like this singer better

  • Cleaner version. Thanks. Please, everybody needs to hear the neglected flip side masterpiece "Somebody Tell Me My Name".

  • I have an original copy of this record, I'll have to listen to the other side now! Thanks for posting this clip! Wish I was born ten years earlier! I came along in Dec. 1966! Love it,though!

  • Oh yeah.

  • I have been searching for this song for years,,,,finding the VIDEO was such a PLUS,, Thank You,ty,ty,,from me and my Guy
