@MarkG45 Actually, I call those miracles. If those acts were magic, they would have no purpose. But God has a purpose for all of us: to enjoy Him. The hymn writers, apostles, poets, & historians wrote down what they saw, & what they saw was miracles. God used those people to author the Bible so that more can believe. Let's not dumb down the acts of God to "magic."
Without the Bible, the Jewish god could never have infected society. Also I was praying and god told me to tell you all that "Twilight was actually kinda good".
Boring is in the eye of the beholder. My hypothesis is that there exists people who think the bible is booooooring. I draw this conclusion from the fact that new stories are being written all the time. How long can the stories of the bible compete with the ever growing collection of adventure books and films in the long run? Already some people see the bible as yet another story albeit an old one.
I see a lot of comments made out of apparent ignorance. The Bible's has established it's authority by the prophecies that have come true...and still come true to this very day.

This guy is crazy, do people really believe in magical wizards that live in the clouds and listen to human thoughts? I was under the impression this died off a long time ago. It's like some relic of the dark ages that still lives in today's society.
You do know that all religions are fairy tales, right?
@HoneyBoy69 Harry Potter was amazing, and involved fantastic acts of magic. Like the Bible. It had good messages about morality and friendship. Like the Bible. It's still just a fairytale. Like the Bible.
@HoneyBoy69 I see your point of view. Do you understand my point of view when I say the Bible is a fictional account like the Iliad, the Torah, the Koran, and every other creation story by ancient tribes of men? I mean, we KNOW Harry Potter isn't real because it is provable false. We KNOW the Bible isn't real for the same reason. Magic doesn't exist.
@HoneyBoy69 Again. Harry Potter has facts in it too. There really is a King's Cross station. Many of the references in the book correspond to actual places in England. In 100 years, these facts will be confirmed in the same as the Bible. But like the Bible, this DOES NOT PROVE MAGIC IS REAL.
@MarkG45 Uk okay. I've kind of skimmed through this little "conversation" you two have had. Interesting. ... I will say this. The Bible is God's word. He spoke and people wrote what He said. The events in the Bible are historical and real events. The exception being Revelation which is symbolic narrative to describe Christ's second coming. To say the Bible is fictional and made up is a blasphemous. Believe the Bible cover to cover or not at all. God Bless.
@MarkG45 can i ask if you've ever read the bible? not just heard the stories or read articles about parts of it but the actual bible? I believe that's the only way to prove it's power. I've read harry potter and it's one of my favorite book series and i think JK Rowling is a genius but i've never picked it up when i was upset or lonely and found in it exactly the words that explain not only how i'm feeling but exactly what i needed to hear to make my situation better...that's only from the bible
@269linda Yes, of course I've read the damn Bible. How does Mark 11:12-14 strike you as exactly the right kind of rational morality that belongs in the book about our God? Kinda nonsensical, eh? And have you been fasting like Jesus commands in the sermon on the mound? Know anyone remarried? Because Jesus says categorically that they will burn in hell.
And that's just the new testament. Guess the most benign sin God commands you to be stoned to death for. I'll have you beat harder than a sinner
@MarkG45 i want to adress the matters u said. As for the passage about Jesus and the fig tree...God does not do anything without a reason. If u read on in that chapter to verses 20-25 you can see that reason. Jesus did not curse the tree out of revenge or anger for not producing fruit. He cursed it to show his disciples the power of prayer. Jesus taught through parables and metaphors. He showed the power of God the Father through miracles. This action was another lesson for his disciples.
@MarkG45 so i want to adress the matters u said. As for the passage about Jesus and the fig tree...God does not do anything without a reason. #1. Jesus doesn't command anyone to fast in the sermon on the mount. He says that if you do fast, do not be like the hypocrites. #2. How Mark 11: 12-14 demonstrates your point is beyond me. #3. Jesus isn't condemning anyone in the sermon on the mount. He is establishing the ultimate standard of ethics that only the pure of heart may fulfill. This is impossible to do so without the grace of God, as asserted by Jesus himself and other authors of scripture. You are ignorant.
What you assert to be magic in the Bible is not so. Magic is a vain attempt to invoke the supernatural. The difference between magic and a miracle is that magic is done by man, and a miracle, by God. A miracle is not a silly concept in principle, because God is a being that transcends the natural laws that he himself established. Magic, by contrast, is not a coherent concept, because it implies that incredibly limited and finite beings can suspend or alter laws that are greater than them.
I suggest that if you are going to spend a large chunk of your mortal existence bashing a non existent God by saying that the Bible is a book full of magic, at least start by defining simple terms first. You have to define magic before you label a book magical, something which you clearly did not do. You purposely substituted the word miracles, for magic. One term is associated with human superstition and nonsense, and the other with the works of an omnipotent creator.
@v01741r31 Magic is a vain attempt to invoke the supernatural.
Harry Potter is full of miracles, because miracles are real and magic is false. Everything you mistakenly believe to be magic in Harry Potter is in fact true. Why? Because the Harry Potter books claim them to be true.
A miracle is done by God... not human beings. Magic is the opposite.
The Bible is an account of the events leading up to the time of Jesus, and his ministry. What's so hard about that for you? The Bible doesn't call itself true, it was written by 40 different authors. The apostle Paul said that the OT scriptures are sufficient to equip someone, that's about it. The Bible's claims can be held up to scrutiny. Many have done it in sophisticated ways and others in not so good ways, like you.
Trying to analogize the Bible to Harry Potter really makes no sense. Harry Potter is fiction designed to entertain an audience, written by one author like 10 years ago. The Bible is a collection of writings from 40 different authors over a period of over 1,500 years. Some of the authors are kings, others laymen, others prophets, others historians. Some of the language is poetic, like Psalms, other times it is historical like the gospels. Tell me how that makes a bit of sense.
@v01741r31 They both contain magic? One you recognize is an entertaining story with interesting plot development where the main character triumphs over evil and dies for the sins of hatred only to risen again out of love.
@MarkG45 You are misunderstanding. Christians don't believe in "magic". Instead, we believe in the power of the single, all-knowing, all-seeing, ever-powerful God. There is a tremendous difference. I will pray that the gospel will continue to be preached to you, and that your heart would open up to our mighty creator.
@ashgiri94 I'm sorry but what do you call a creature that puts on fantastic visuals like lighting bushes on fire or walking on water or making lots of bread out of little bread or color changing water? Sounds like a magician to me. We can disagree on the name of the magician and whether he REALLY does magic, but come on. We can all agree it's magic, fantasy, and fairy tales.

yea I know what you mean man about religious fanatics
but christianity is different
I mean all its offering is salvation from our sins
cuz its our sins that make us in danger of God condemnation on Judgment day
but the main point that im trying to say is that all it is offering is a savior
but heck man im just commenting just to comment so this is just my opinion lol

I know what your saying man
but the bible goes more deep on a personal level for all of us
i mean it tells us mans problem with God
and Gods solution for that problem is Jesus Christ whom saves us from our sins
I cant force you to believe in what the bible says
but what im trying to say to you is that theres a lot more to the bible than how you are viewing it

@MarkG45
yeah but we can look at the bible in a historical view
like the new testament talks about Jesus Christ his ministry and him being sentence by pontius piolate to die on the cross
and 1st century historians agree with the biblical account
see if what the gospels say about Jesus were real historical accounts then this guy would of had quite an impact and thats what we see in history
thats why ppl would be killed by there own free will if all they had to do was deny his exsistence
