Great stuff thanks for sharing this! Am pretty sure that "Tom" one of the squire's men that gets shot is the same actor that played the Northern Irish priest in the last series of Sons of Anarchy! Just as a point of possible interest...
Nice to know my ears aren't deceiving me. I agree, Ceredigio, the dialogue in the fights scenes seems to have been improvised - but by actors who had a very good grasp of period dialogue and their characters. It is equally good in the "setting sail" scenes and any time characters are milling around, which just adds to this movie's perfection. The more times you watch and listen, the more great "asides" you hear.
But I love it! Nobody can say "Bloody hell!" like Clive Wood. If you think that's uncaptainly, you should listen to what I think he says as he fires at a pirate from the cabin in the shipboard fight. Ah, the heat of the action.... But it's all part of what makes this so wonderful.
@ceredigio On watching the ship fight scene again Redruth calls a pirate a 'bloody villain' and Smollet says 'up your arse mutineer!' I think even the usually mild mannered Joice uses strong language, Redruth tells him to load and Joice in the heat of the moment says 'i'm doing my bloody best!'
@Lee7559 I think in those days there was a much bigger distinction between polite talk, for ladies etc and how men talked at other times and seamen were notoriously foulmouthed.
One of the many delights of this perfect film is the near constant background of commands, exclamations, muttered remarks and asides that adds to its realism - and these remarks are much easier to catch here than while watching the VHS. Again, thanks to Balehead!

So when they were throwing their gear onto the shore, did anyone else see their muskets bounce and bend like rubber?

Isn't it 'up your arse you bloody villain!!' or something like that?
Sounds to me like much of the dialogue in the fight scenes was improvised!

@ceredigio Indeed, surely a captain of that period would of said somthing like "Crikey thats got a bit of a kick to it" LOL
