It's a long story.

Basically some time ago, after the WW2 you got paid very little whether you were or weren't highly educated.

This caused most people in Poland to start working as soon as possible instead of going to universities.

People that were smart enough (like my parents) moved out.

People who didn't either were lucky/smart enough to get a decent job or they are not bothered by the miserable life they have, yet they don't understand that 'kurwa' won't give any respect.
