Gonna be playing in St. Louis tomorrow...this song was the first Janes Addiction song that completely sank into my consciousness (I am thoroughly a hip-hop kid). I was like, "Wait...wow."
I pull out this song at the first whisper of warmth in the Pacific Northwest - usually after months going by without so much as glimpsing the sun. One of the defining features of me as a human being is that I love to scream the lyrics with Perry while driving along a lush evergreen mountain highway under the bright blue skies after a bleak, hard winter. That is me forever. No word in the world can describe that joy of being alive - if only to do that one thing. May they play it at my funeral!
When I was 16 years old, my boyfriend and first love would play this song for me on his guitar out on the balcony of his apt while I sat quietly and listened. I felt completely in love and at peace. I still feel that way every time I hear this song.
Those first three albums, 'Jane's Addiction', 'Nothing's Shocking' and 'Ritual De Lo Habitual' pretty much make up the soundtrack to the happiest years of my life. God, I miss the early 90's!
That rare thing: a truly beautiful, original, pure, honest love song, redolent with memories, evocative of some of my misspent, crazy, horny teenage summers... this is one of my favourite all-time songs, and Perry's inimitable voice provides the only cadence in the world that could do it justice... love it love it love it, could listen to it over and over and just sink further into my own sea of grass....
this july, there was a night after work.. i walked home in the rain with one earphone slightly off, the rain soaked my clothes, twas the perfect backdrop to this :)
i used to listen to hair bands when i was 15.(1988)and a friend turned my on to janes and i have been hooked ever since , i have never had a band speak to me like this . this band has influenced my life in so many ways
I just turned 15 about a week ago and I listen to music all the time. I honestly would much rather hear this than the things that are playing on the radio. This is like honey to my ears, and music nowadays is like scratching on a chalkboard (not trying to offend anyone). That indeed is my honest opinion... I want older music styles to come back :(
Don't know/care where it was derived from etc.; this is the rock of my Gen, Timeless, yet recalling such vivid Dream/Memories; Thanks, especially for the live version on Closet Full of Curiosities. Our Gen's too young to be over the hill, and Phish can't hold an entire revolution on it's back, so let's ROLL again.
Such amazing memories and feelings of being a kid and so into this album and band back before the word alternative had even become a label.. goosebumps :)
@rosalbina188 placebo didn't cover this song It was a band called LOSERS. Placebo's singer Brian Molko was asked to sing and yes, the cover is wonderful. Also a band called Hybrid remixed the LOSERS cover and the result is amazing as well.
I like the original because brings me wonderful memories.
@lacrahuntington yes, you're absolutely right.. i just forgot to mention Losers cos actually i love brian molko so i only focused on him and his voice. now i wanna check this remix by hybrid.. thank you
@BLillo Yes it is... This song as well as other from Janes Addiction brings back so many memories for me for the 1990's I wish I could go back just for one day....
so glad i passed on this amazing late 80's / early 90's music to my teen daughters...along with the chilis, pearl jam, blind melon, sublime, incubus, etc. my job as a parent is done. good luck girls.
@AntiMusick Why whatever do you mean? Summer time ROLLS? 1988? Ahhh... those were the days (and nights). The world will never be the same. I miss those summer time rolls.
20 years old, and still fantastic. Possibly the most underrated band of their generation, I mean seriously, what supergroup came out of this period? We can celebrate freakin poison having a reunion tour but kids today dont even know who janes addiction was? Most kids today know who Vanilla Ice was, but say "oh, yeah, Perry Ferrell, yeah. I know him. I think he is the janitor at our school. " Total injustice. Not as prolific, but as far as innovation goes, on a level with early pink floyd.
Mine and my Husband's first and only song we danced to at our wedding reception. Blew a few of our friends minds away that we picked it as our song. LOVE IT!
I can't stop listening to this song! takes me back to last summer, with all my friends back home, I was visiting, everytime I go back to that town, all I feel is love. And freedom, and so much else that I don't have words for. I've been listening to this song almost nonstop for days now...I think its because here pretty soon I'm going home again to see all my friends and family this summer, much like last summer =] Also, school's a bitch, but this song takes that away =] One of my favs here!!
Reminds me of when all my friends were going to the first Lollapalooza. I was poor as dirt and could not go. This song reminds me of all my regrets, and all the things to look forward to, at the same time. It is a hidden masterpiece.
This songs always makes me think of the craziest X trip I even had... And ever since it's been just as trippy and I've loved it ever since :) "I wouldn't advocate violence and drugs to anyone but they've always worked for me!" - Hunter S. Thompson
Great song! Someone flagged this video because it has a statue with two topless girls? An art piece! jeeezzz This cover was pulled from stores at the time for the same reason,, ridiculous in this day and age.
@raevyn11 My good friend bought the shirt at the concert and wore it to high school. He got some funny looks from some teachers but everyone left him alone. How the world has changed in 20 years. Today he would either have to change shorts or be expelled.
@royalcityman <3. I'm really happy you spent half an hour replying to each comment I've made on youtube for the past 4 months. Brought a little sunshine to my day.
Comments? I was seeing if you trolled other areas as well. I found one comment to some gay latin crap you were looking at and I responded to one of the dumbest questions I've ever seen (and I've seen plenty). If you take joy in that then you in serious need of professional attention. I only wrote you one response. Would you feel better if I wrote you more often?
@royalcityman Also, Jane's Addiction has formed in 1984 and there first album came a couple years later. The cure's first album was like 1979 or something. THEY WHERE CONTEMPORARIES. If you are looking for JA's influence, look to bands like the Underground or Joy Division. Seriously, led zeppelin (while being groundbreaking, give em props) is fucking pretty lame music, and doesn't touch this.
@Citizenohshit Actually 1985. That's 6 years for the hard of math. So why wouldn't that be of inspiration to them? The fact of the matter is that I heard an interview with Jane's Addiction on Much Music. Farrell said "they were inspired by Led Zep and The Cure". Take it. Leave it. IDC. Dis LZ all you want. Tastes vary with the individual. Oh...you might notice that there are a couple of videos of JANES ADDICTION PLAYING LED ZEP right here on Youtube.
coming down the mounatinnnn....thanks for uploading..great album(some viewers will wonder what an album is..lol)....it ain't easy living...
btw..anyone remember the name of the group that sang the song w/lyrics: "i seee life, like a mirror, i seee life so much clearer.."..that tape was inspirational and spiritual to me, but i lost it in a divorce:))..and can't find the source anywhere online..thanks if anyone knows...it is stuck in a memory file in my brain under LSD times..can't find it..:D
this song is my favorite drug. i don't care how upset/pissed/sad/whatever i am... turn out the lights, lay on the bed, and hit repeat. before the 3rd play i am somewhere else and everything's fine.
I think this song perfectly captures the best part of what summer is for me: it's my day off, I'm driving with no destination in mind and the sun is slowly setting in the distance, creating this cool backdrop against the sky.
Too too awesome. I wish I could find the words to describe what this song does to my soul. Wow does this glide on the memories of youthful freedom or what?
@ jinxfu-- WE, are true legends! Shake off the sadness and hold your head high. WE... lived the dream, minor and small though it may have been, short-lived and short-sighted, but we made it glow like gold! From Orlando, to OKC to Orange County- all of us LIVED! That, never fades... even in your last breath, you have still LIVED! Carry that through the door...
Early ninties, whole life ahead, discoveries, stupidity, ignorance, and lots of LSD. This was the best. I'm getting sad listening to this. These guys are true legends.
please god lord whatever you want to be called bring us back great music like this please the 80s punk blew my mind and the 90s grunge/punk will forever be infected into my blood i miss those days and often try to relive them by the things i do and i never forget the music or people who made those days as sweet as they were
@666Angelfuck well said my little angelfuck. the 80's were radical and the 90's were magical and now, well, now you have to dig a little deeper to find the good stuff, but it IS out there to be found.
Wow. Flash back to my college days.. sitting in a car at night, watching the lights on my cd player's equalizer, smoking on some herb, and letting this one roll over me.
The time of my life when this song came out was as magical as this song sounds, so it always brings me back, with feelings of sadness, nostalgia. I think I listened to this album at least a thousand times.
Agree with wyzbok first got this on tape when i was still 20 something, no mortgage or bills, no insurance or anything to worry about, my only worry was where would i get the next £10 for a decent saturday night out ( yes it was that cheap then )
I loved the artistic sense of this band back then. It went against the grain of everything out there globally to create their own poetic different sound. Plus a couple album covers are so artistic. Nothing shocking could not be a more tasteful appreciation of of feminine physical form. I summerize the cover to be Di Vinci, Vogue do an appreciation of the birth chart of Gemini for the Phoenix in relation to India's harbor. Bizarre but Beautiful
Gonna be playing in St. Louis tomorrow...this song was the first Janes Addiction song that completely sank into my consciousness (I am thoroughly a hip-hop kid). I was like, "Wait...wow."

Too too awesome. I wish I could find the words to describe what this song does to my soul. Wow does this glide on the memories of youthful freedom or what?

@etownks07 This song does something I can't define myself. It's like the sound of suburban adolscence. It's beautiful.
