Wow, I'm impressed with the editing in this movie. Most 80s movie trailers would put in the requisite "In a WORLD full of ALIENS..." But this just lets the scenes speak for themselves, more like most modern trailers. My only complaint is that (like modern trailers) it's also a little spoilerific, showing a lot of Aliens and the Queen.

Besides, with such an insane backlash (the same thing happened to Titanic), the film is bound to be shoved down into a place where it can be forgotten. That doesn't mean Avatar won't come back around when the sequel is released. Titanic is now coming back.
(Alien1979) Ridley Scott + John Hurt + and a score by Jerry Goldsmith performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra = the most horrific film made. The best film made. I still have Nightmares about being on the Nostromo. You can not copy this movie or chop it up (but they try). It's art. I'm a fan of the age where real movies were made. James Cameron had a good thing going with Terminator 1 and 2 and Aliens, then he discovered CGI and got it all fucked up. Props done correct looks more real than CGI.
I dunno about the alien that came out of Newts father was the queen can't really remember any ref to that, but any way the directors cut is def way better like u say some crucial story elements expanded upon. He says there's no need, there's been a colony there for decades ... terraformers, families with women and children, etc. She says families ... jesus! Scene cuts to the commander at Hadleys Hope, first lv426 scene, talking about a mom and pop search team wanting the claimrights if they find anything on grid co-ordinates they were ordered to search.

Both the original movies were ahead of their time then, and comic book companies were jumping onto the movie bandwagon. Danny Glover starred in Predator2 in 1990, after the comic book hit the shelves.
Graphic novels were young, and the scifi industry began to open up and branch out. Not a hard connection really.
AvP is totally uninterresting and I don't see the connection. Aliens had nothing to do with Predators..that's something they made up with the 2:nd Predator movie with that alien skull scene..FOR FUN! Then the shit hit the fan..whaha..predators hunt aliens..keep 'em for pets..predators dress like prideculture-goth-wannabees and snark when breathing! I do NOT want another AvP movie..I want Ridley and Cameron on another ALIEN movie or leave it in peace and let us admire what they did already!
I hope Alien 5 will do justice to the classic James Cameron-directed Aliens movie. While the first part was nice,part 2 redefined the movie and made fans notice and loved the film. Unfortunately,parts 3 and 4 killed the franchise.Fox just didn’t realize they were sitting on a gold mine of a movie and failed to take advantage of the success of Aliens,opting instead to capitalize on the Alien VS. Predator series which,though better than Alien 3 & 4,didn’t quite live up to the hype Aliens created.
I hope people in the film business can make a crazy and epic Aliens Vs. Predators movie. It would be awesome if there was a war going on between the two species. The AVP and AVPR films were never adequate in terms of action and surprises.
If they were making a new Alien movie, then Radha Mitchell would be my first choice as the leading actor, replacing Sigourney Weaver as a new super-tough gutsy Ripley-type character. I could just see her battling it out hammer and tongs with one of the Aliens.

@rod7661 Ok, I agree with you that `Alien' 2 and `Terninator 2' are both great films but Avatar was a good film too! at least say what you thought was bad about it instead of simply saying "it's garbage"! (and I bet you're going to say it's just `Dancing with wolves' or `Pocahontas' in space). but think about it, how many times have the same Love-stories been done in the past. eg: `They start off as friends and then kiss, becoming more than friends'. @mrworkout79 I got the impression that was mostly because of the 'ooo 3D!' thing. I know a lot of people who went to see it said it was more like a fairground ride than a film. It might not stand up to critical analysis AS a film, if you see what I mean.
I've not seen it, but I can imagine that. Also being successful bears no relation to any other quality, I don't think. Some cheap junk has made it big.
All a matter of opinion though. All anyone can say is whether they liked it and why. :)
aliens was easily the best of all the alien movies. alien 3 was complete shit, 1 and 4 were alright, this one was awesome, first predator movie was good, second was okay, and alien vs predator 1 and 2 were based on a cool idea but were terrible films overall.
the only problem i had with Avatar was all the hype about it and all we get is Brave New World/Last Samurai replacing native americans/british with space aliens and marines.
I know Ridley Scott is planning two Alien prequels but don't you fans of Alien think they should make an Alien movie that takes place after Aliens but ignores Alien3 and Resurrection?

He says there's no need, there's been a colony there for decades ... terraformers, families with women and children, etc. She says families ... jesus! Scene cuts to the commander at Hadleys Hope, first lv426 scene, talking about a mom and pop search team wanting the claimrights if they find anything on grid co-ordinates they were ordered to search.

kokohero, the concept was captured from Dark Horse Comics. In the late 1980's they produced a comic book series called Aliens vs Predator. Both the original movies were ahead of their time then, and comic book companies were jumping onto the movie bandwagon. Danny Glover starred in Predator2 in 1990, after the comic book hit the shelves.
Graphic novels were young, and the scifi industry began to open up and branch out. Not a hard connection really.

AvP is totally uninterresting and I don't see the connection. Aliens had nothing to do with Predators..that's something they made up with the 2:nd Predator movie with that alien skull scene..FOR FUN! Then the shit hit the fan..whaha..predators hunt aliens..keep 'em for pets..predators dress like prideculture-goth-wannabees and snark when breathing! I hope Alien 5 will do justice to the classic James Cameron-directed Aliens movie. While the first part was nice,part 2 redefined the movie and made fans notice and loved the film. Unfortunately,parts 3 and 4 killed the franchise.Fox just didn’t realize they were sitting on a gold mine of a movie and failed to take advantage of the success of Aliens,opting instead to capitalize on the Alien VS. Predator series which,though better than Alien 3 & 4,didn’t quite live up to the hype Aliens created.

@rod7661 Ok, I agree with you that `Alien' 2 and `Terninator 2' are both great films but Avatar was a good film too! at least say what you thought was bad about it instead of simply saying "it's garbage"! (and I bet you're going to say it's just `Dancing with wolves' or `Pocahontas' in space). but think about it, how many times have the same Love-stories been done in the past. eg: `They start off as friends and then kiss, becoming more than friends'. So why is evryone slagging-off `Avatar'?!

@mrworkout79 I got the impression that was mostly because of the 'ooo 3D!' thing. I know a lot of people who went to see it said it was more like a fairground ride than a film. It might not stand up to critical analysis AS a film, if you see what I mean.
I've not seen it, but I can imagine that. Also being successful bears no relation to any other quality, I don't think. Some cheap junk has made it big.
All a matter of opinion though. All anyone can say is whether they liked it and why. :)
