FYI, A Wonderful Life's description of our system isn't accurate. The money isn't just loaned out to someone else (I wish it was) because that would be 100% reserve banking. We use Fractional Reserve banking. Look up the Federal Reserve Report H6 (measures of money supply) add up how much money (Federal Reserve Notes) in circluation (750 Billion) and then compare that to the amount in checking, savings, and CDs (5.8 Trillion). Only 1/8 of the money in the system actually exists at all. Ouch!
Not only that, but if we paid it all back today, with interest, there wouldn't be enough money on the overall money supply! Talk about a screwed up system.

We use Fractional Reserve banking. Look up the Federal Reserve Report H6 (measures of money supply) add up how much money (Federal Reserve Notes) in circluation (750 Billion) and then compare that to the amount in checking, savings, and CDs (5.8 Trillion). Only 1/8 of the money in the system actually exists at all. Ouch!

I go for #4. I don't want the Fed rescuing these companies. Doesn't that essentially mean that the American people get to pay the bill for CEO f*ck-ups? We should just let the shit happen and clean up after it's all done. I've heard that these corporate 'rescues' don't do anything to help people who are having trouble paying their mortgages--they just help the wealthy.

Dollars are gaining strength here in the short term with the fall of crude .. But they have to with the bail outs coming as the FED prepares to devalue our currency more and more with printing new currency.
