I remember that book, I also remember being scared all the time that Jehovah was going to open up the ground and swallow me up for doing something wrong. I was also terrified for my brother...cause he listened to rap music with bad words in it..
ha i remember that book! I just remembered looking at the pictures and being scared.... until you got to the end... and oh! were going to live in paradise someday!
That book was a blast from the past. I remember all of the brainwashing images from the book As an impressionable child I truly believed what was said in it now. Now that I am older I realized that their god is no different than Adolf Hitller. My son will never be exposed to this filth. He will learn aobut the history of tyrants the right way and that is in school in history class. His faith path will be his choice.
When I was a very young kid we studied 'Paradise lost to Paradise Restored' which was equally nasty in its content,I know ,I got the message ',Be a good JW and believe and get paradise or don't and Jehovah will kill me just like the illustrations of kids being killed in their books.' Fear , a key tool to conform. They are in fear, even if they wont admit it .I remember well a speaker in a convention saying,'Children, don't think you will get through Armageddon just because you are young.'
@checkthefacts - I remember that book too! I was a kid in the 1960's, and the Paradise Lost book was one of the first ones my mom read to me. I don't remember my mom emphasizing the Armageddon pictures much - maybe she was too nice. However when I was a little kid in school, I really believed that all my classmates were soon to die a violent death at Armageddon and that I might be the only living. As you can imagine, this made me wary of getting to know them very well.

Um, yeah, I read books like that when I was little and the books really f*cked me up. I couldn't sleep at night because I thought God might kill me in my sleep. Go figure.
wow, i typed that first part before he showed them dying in their sleep from an angel, lol, proof that i could still remember this stuff in the back of my mind...
Um, yeah, I read books like that when I was little and the books really f*cked me up. I couldn't sleep at night because I thought God might kill me in my sleep. Go figure.
@liquidscorpion3 - "My Book of Bible Stories" was most definitely written for children with JW parents. I was at the 1978 convention where they released it, and they made it quite clear that the format was designed for children. I will add that it was clearly intended to introduce some basic JW doctrines like "you can live forever on earth" to the JW tykes.
Streight to the point. Never seen such a violent book that is made for little Children. You realy let me leel that i have finaly made the right choise. Thanks, all the way from Belgium-Europe.
It boggles my mind how you can't see the scenes of violence as a truthful history and children do need to know these things so that they never believe that earth under Satanic rule is safe from people or from Gods judgments for insubordination.
Incidentally the picture is not of Lot. I suppose a Santa Claus that brings all good children toys on Christmas is a better way to deal with the reality of this world. How do you think the children who get no presents feel? Now THAT is cruel.
@thejahoflife Well to a point, but why to the Watchtower have to base everything on the people who were bad and the punishments they got. They could easily make a children's book about the good things people did and how it pleased God, and the blessings they got. Why do everything based on the fear and punishment side of God and not the loving kindness side. God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. Psalm 145 v 8-9. But I agree with your point about Santa!
I remember reading this book when I was a child. My mother was a Jehovah's Witness- though she is non-practicing now. I agree to an extent with what you're trying to do here. Of course- this is VERY violent children's book... but, all of this violence happened to people who needed to be "punished" for their "sins". God does not punish you if you are a good little Christian. I think that's what the book was trying to say- not that you will be killed dramatically no matter what.
@UpstaginglyBright - When I was a child being raised by JW parents, the images of wicked people coming to their violent death at Armageddon did put a certain fear into me. The JW's teach that all who aren't following the Bible as they explain it will die violently. This teaching made me fear making friends with my schoolmates, thinking that they would soon die in the way I saw portrayed in Watchtower literature. Such pictures really screw with a kid's mind.
@UpstaginglyBright Jehavah God will kill little babies just because there parents aren't JW. That's what's been told by the Watchtower. Is that a way of being a 'good' God? Don't think so!
I remember feeling as though the grown ups were talking down to me, as if I was an idiot, whenever these stories were read to me. I grew up in a secretive, violent jw home so those pictures were nothing compare to what I lived every day. I hate that book to this day!
Un-freakin-believable! I thought they didn't create books to scare children into religion after the 19th century!!! O_O
[Of course the 19th century ones were worse]
"See the child as he bangs his fists against the oven door. See his face, it is full of sorrow. Hear his shrieks. Do you hear that sound like a kettle boiling? That's not a kettle. It is the boy's blood boiling in his veins, for when he lived his blood boiled to do wicked things." - From a 19th century children's book about Hell
So... statues of Jesus bloody and mutilated on a cross is appropriate for church, and we should be ASHAMED for not putting crosses all over ourselves.... yet "OH NO! JWs have an illustration of Jesus on a stake next to the story! That's not a cross, therefore, they're a cult!"
... Interesting how people bash JWs for suggesting that Armegeddon isn't going to be a pleasant time... but they're OK with other churches telling kids they may go to hell so God can torture them forever. That's OK.
it makes me larf that there all like u shouldnt read violent book or watch movies with violence or sex scenes or anything its just like uhhh have you read the bible lately its full of that stuff. but they jws really need to tone down the explictness up at my moms place they had a talk on what was appropiait types of sex and apparently it was very explisist theres 5yr olds in there they dont need to know about oral sex and giving hand jobs its just wrong
i noticed MrRick1234 comment. That he believed it was entertaining, hehe. you know, i know that most likely the intention with that book is to teach children about the bible, but it just dosnt work. they have had the revelation book 3 times. that probarly 2, maybe 3 generations. 1 generation fed up with that, teaching theire kids, teaching theire kids again. phsycological unhealthy.
@NeedUpgrade - Agreed. The Book of Bible Stories portrays a lot of the violence, mayhem and bad acting of people in the Old Testament. But you know the solution -- the God of War has your back if you do the right thing, and he'll fry all the bad people (such as those bad kids at school who tease you because they don't understand your religion).
The Bible Stories book is a gateway for young children of JW's, teaching them to rely on the Watchtower for spiritual guidance.
@wsjulz I'd rather rely on common sense than a 2000 year old book that has been edited heavily over the years in such a way that it likely no longer resembles itself in its original form.
because even if the bible is the "word of god" (I don't believe that) its been heavily edited throughout the years, so its only a partial "word of god". I was always taught that a partial truth is as bad as a lie. Believe it if you want though, I guess. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself. I prefer common sense, but if promises of eternal life, a talking bush, and virgin births are your thing, then who am I to tell you whats logical, you've already chosen madness over reason.
we just tell the truth and dont tell them lies about santa clause and easter bunnies and even the tooth fairy only to tell them you have been lieng to them for years and just to let you know that book is for studing not just for kids.
@TheJasonX3000 - Regarding the book "My Book of Bible Stories" : The Watchtower website says this book is "especially designed for children". So you can stop with your spin that the book is for general Bible study.
And why should children be exposed to "warning" pictures of babies dying? The WTS is using fear even on its littlest adherents. This is monstrous.
As an ex jw I want to thank you for bringing these pictures and texts to the fore front. I was obviously so blind to the fact that these pics etc can only be damaging for a young mind. I doubt very much whether the majority of jw's realise the violent nature of the material they expose thier children to and as i remember the book you feature here is the first book that is given to jw child other than the bible possibly. Truly and very sadly, seeds of an unaturel view of all else outside the jws
@drumz29 - I would say that even the Bible itself contains violence, hatred, rape by "faithful" servants of God, ethnic cleansing, denigration of women, and a message of intolerance. Most or all Christian religions only feature the parts of the Bible that seem to suit their particular purpose.
...within the 'spiritual paradise' of the kingdom hall! when worldly people act violent, it's bad but if it's a servant of god whose acting violent, it's good. go figure.
tell them about the fact that they don't have nurseries. the kids get to listen to and take notes about 'bad people' getting stabbed cut to pieces and about how many times you were told that at after armagedon, the worldly people will have their eyes eaten by crows.
I am 15 years old and at the age of 1 i had more common sense and faith than you will ever have in your whole life.(if you do not return) All of the people in the book that you are holding up died for a reason. Jesus died for us if he did not, then you and i would not be here today. And the rest of the people were wicked because they were probably trying to kill other people and cause them to lose out in their chance of life or they were disobedient. Guard your words carefully.
@808ghettoqun common sense and faith don't belong together, kiddo. faith is believing what you are told to believe, and common sense is discovering what you were told to believe is a bunch of BS. Life only happens when you shed the restraints of religious doctrine and realise that there is not a "god". Sorry to burst your bubble, but THATS the truth.
Control by FEAR... it has always been that way. And it's not only with in the ranks of the JW, it is present in every religion. That's the only way they can retain power over people is through FEAR.
Keep the videos coming ...you are right on 100% . I was raised a JW from 5 until i left at 17. I spent 4 weeks in psychiatric care for the fallout of the fear and anxiety that plagued me after for years. I remember the Paradise Lost..Paradise Found book that had scary drawings of Armageddon. Horrifying. So glad I am FREE.
Hi there..keep the videos coming. You are 100% right on target. Scare tactics are what they use. I was raised since i was 5 in this fearful cult. Spent 4 weeks in a psychiatric hospital when i was 30 trying to deprogram. They should be charged with child abuse.
Keep the videos coming. you are 100 % on target. I was raised in this cult. I am 50. I spent 6 weeks in a psychiatric hospital when i was 30 trying to undo what i had been taught since i was 5. Scary stuff for little children. shame on all of them.
Lot's wife's offense: Looking back at her old town.
Lot, who on the other hand, got drunk and had sex with his two daughters (who eventually got pregnant by him) got away scotchfree! Read your bible! It's full of crap.
@alabangdream I seen what you mentioned before in the bible and I could not understand it very well but what u are saying is in Genesis 19:30-38. The Daughters got lot drunk then had sex with him
Mind u when I 1st heard about this section in the genesis, I was in the JW at this time on bible study. I said to my edler why did they do that, he said something very lame as if it like they had to for some reasons. Personally I think it is disgusting to put violence in to a JW book especially for kids.
When I was still in/on the outs I pointed out the very same thing to my mother. How on earth was that book appropriate to read to my son? No way. No how.
I remember that book. Fun times. The Watchtower sure does look out for the psychological welfare of little kids, don't they?
It's both traumatizing and hypocritical that violent/disturbing images are depicted in JW children/adult literature. And yet, they're supposedly anti-violence! Go figure.
I was Taught how to get tothe next city after Armageddon because it would be the closest Group Of survivors... The kingdom hall there
I was conditioned to never Renounce my faith.. My mom would say "Theres a man Holding a gun to y head and your fathers head saying I you have to say you wont be a witness annymore... Or he will ill us... What do you do? YEs fear and control and EEEVIL!
and great work on this video...you know I never realized how those pictures conditioned us. That is why it is a cult...you can tell by the JW comments on this board. WOW!! I am sooooo glad to be rid of their way of thinking and living.
I thankfully deprogrammed my son after I left the cult...and now he is a normal teenager.
I even played the "book of Bible Stories" audio tapes for him at night...for years.
I am very sorry to say I did that to him...and I regret it to this day.
Regrets don't do anything positive. Congratulations on getting out, and you did the best thing you could for your son by deprogamming him while still young so he could enjoy his teenage years. Be proud of your acomplishment :)
yes...I agree about regrets...they are non-productive.
And thank you for realizing how hard it was to leave that cult and still be able to raise my son on my own.
I left my abusive jw ex and I was the one that was df'ed. I lost everybody...my "friends" and my whole "family". The JW's were jerks to me all the while trying to break free from a control freak.
But, years later, I actually would like to thanks to elders on my jc...because I have never been so satisfied and happy with my life.
Amen to your comments, canpeace. The elders did me a huge favor by showing me the door. It opened up a whole new world for me.
Your story about being the victim blamed by the JW elders rings true. If you're not in the elders' clique, and a difficult situation arises, they will find a way to kick you out and make you look like the villain. The elders' wives hear the details to turn into slanted gossip for the rest of the ninnies in the hall! (Your post got me steamed at the JW's again.)
It was the hardest thing I ever had to do (break free from the cult) like it was for all of you too. I admire all ex-jw's and those you remain an ex-jw.
The first couple of years after I left...I was thinking of going back just to ease my pain from losing my family.
But I learned conditional love is not worth going back to the cult and being treated like I am a inferior sex, Plus...my son is the most important person in my life.
Welldone for leaving this satanic cult and deprogrammed yourself and son. By what I see in the comment, you are very relieved as if the JW put too much on you. You playing audio tapes to your son is part of the watchtower mentality and therefore it is not your fault because you was brainwashed to do that.
yes...I was brainwashed. Not only is the "children's" book violent...you should hear the audiotapes. You can hear screaming and killing going on. And the way the narrator says the word "JEHOVAH"...he booms out the name.
I think back and it really is pathetic and hilarious. '"in the name of JEHOVAH"...like they want to instill the fear on the kids.
A loving god would never do that to his children.
That is seriously is bad, that is like listening to a horror film. I questioned a JW once about scary images in books. They replied to me and said kids love all the scary stuff and violent stuff. No wonder they are psycholgically not with it. There is another idiot on youtube called Oribear he is some brainwashed idiot as he always kept going on about apostates being the worse and they should die in most of his comments left on another page
yeah...I know. Leave it to the jw's to threaten that we will be killed just because we don't drink their Kool aid.
I ignore them...because you can see how brainwashed they are. They are scared when ex-jw's come on the net and say it like it really is in that cult.
If they weren't a cult...and if they we more like the traditional religions (I don't agree with any man made rel org), they would not be trolling for sites just to slander us ex-jw's.
@canpeace40 Don't regret it (you played that tapes.) At that time you didn't know it was wrong to do so. Don't feel sorry! Look at the time being, this verry moment. Now you know that it is wrong, now you have deprogrammed your son, what i believe was verry dificult to do. So now your son is a normal teenager. He must be verry thankfull that you finaly did the right thing. (I Hope you understand this message, 'cause my English isn't that good.) Greetings from Belgium-Europe.
why do JW's. like Batman, think that those of us who left the cult are baby-killing, drug addicts. sex perverts and we all have AIDS?? LOL
Like SERIOUSLY! I am a much better person now that I ever was even as a former JW.
I guess they have to believe what their precious GB says about us...that we are controlled by satan. Because if they actually talked to us like normal people...they would realize that we are awesome and we have been though hell and back because of their disgusting GB.
of all the pictures you could put in a children's bible... i'm traumatised! might as well watch gladiator. yes, violence happened in the bible, but i bet they don't put in the pictures of solomon and his many wives, or tamar dressed as a prostitue and judah having sex with her.
Watchtower publications only portray one whore pictorially - "Babylon the Great" from the Book of Revelation. That's because to them, Babylon is the composite of EVERY religion in the world but theirs.
That's right. Other religions are a "whore" !!
The Watchtower is a bitch, and all the others are whores. :) Cat fight !!
CS...Great video!!! I never realized it...I just accepted it back then (SO foolish!!)...
Then I think back....and I remember that my mother took away all my Dr.Seuss books....because they were worldly!!!!
Green eggs and ham.( wow, that is so terrible and misleading).......Mom your right...Dr.Suess really is bad.......I should be reading how God will destroy bad people. Excellent reading material (NOT!!!!)
Check out the violence we discussed at the meeting this week. My video is Another Lie. Some friends commented on this passage as to prove that Jehovah was a rightous God and would not tolerate wickedness. It's crazy that we all just sit there and agree but we never use our own mind. It reminds me of Romans 1:21 "but they became empty-headed in their reasonings and their unintelligent heart became darkened" than was me when I used to read the Bible Stoory book to my children.
I would like to see a movie made that depicts all biblical events. Uncensored
Naked adam and eve getting it on david and bathsheba, solomon and his wives and concubines.tamar and judah, ,polygamy, genocide, sacrificing midianite virgins at the order of Moses, capturing women for use as concubines as the law allowed ,and so on
That movie would rated "MA-17" (or whatever the most adult rating is in your country).
It seems that the Bible is very cleverly marketed to present a wholesome image, leaving out all the violent and disgusting parts like the ones you mentioned. Good post!
@jaker2880 this film was made in the 1960's by the golden age of hollywood director DeMille, it is called The Bible and another called The Ten Commandments, great fun, another called Cleopatra with Liz Taylor and recently Gladiator........enjoy with popcorn and pals. have a festival at home.
I guess they condition the children to fear God with the stories and then tell them if they leave the WT organization that God will kill them in a terrible way also. Hmmm...so if one day if they do decide to leave the WT(or their parents leave) they have nothing to live for and commit suicide? Didn't I hear a news story about this?
What is the alternative LIE to our children talk about the bible but do not mention any violation of Gods law and judgement . children need to know the truth as set out in scripture unlike many hypocrites who LIE about Christmas just to please our little ones and to conform to society.
Impressionable children should not be scared into obeying a God or a religion. JW literature directed at children presents frightening images that are not appropriate for that age.
When I was a JW child, I was taught many falsehoods. One in the 1969 Awake that said the time left in this world was so short, that I needed to face the fact that I could not have a career in this world. That wasn't a truth. The teaching that my non-JW schoolmates would soon die a violent death was also untrue.
Your comment like all XJehovah witnesses are bitter and twisted blaming your unfulfilled life and hatred to the watchtower . Your a coward and anti life in all your acts pure perversion God help you and alike.
How Christian still as you said your life now has made you a better person , your pathetic your mind is full of dirty perversion because you flushed your life down the toilet by rejecting God. May i ask you how long you have been under the doctor and please up your medication.
LOL Just watching your videos batman tells em yer half there anyway.. Yer Hauty and yer arrogant and you are far to Defensive to not be trying to Build yer own faith in yerself...
"Me thinks thou dost protest too much
Stop trying to use US EX JW's who have had the strength to stad up and speek to build yer own Convictions.. Should come from within not YT....
@BATMANMATRIXZERO1 notice there are a LOT of XJWs that do that. you think that they might be onto something, that maybe the watchtower is doing more bad than good? Or maybe they only do bad on people that still have independant thought and the guts to question what they have been told. I guess to yoiu they would be considered "worldly", but to the rest of the world they are referred to as people capable of their own thought. Screw your cult.
While I am A Christian (Baptist) I DO'NT CONSIDER JW'S TO BE A CHRISTIAN RELIGION!! They have beliefs that completely go against clear bible teachings! Anyway my mom was a JW when I was born and I had to have a Blood transfusion, because my mom & dads blood type produced a negative effect on mine and caused my blood count to drop out! Long story short, she left that cult because they wanted me to die and not have a blood transfusion, which my mom said was crazy!!! So here I am today, alive !
My son came home from visiting his JW grandparents the other day and he told me "Granny said since we don't go to the kingdom Hall Jehovah is going to kill us". I naturally freaked out and confronted my parents about it. My mother said that she said no such thing; however, she was reading him a story from the My Book of Bible story's, she proceeded to tell me that he's just a smart kid for him to interpret what he was reading as destruction for us if we didn't come back!
Happie -- I am very suspicious about your mother's claims "she said no such thing". Let kids go to their JW grandparents and you can bet grampa or grandma will try to witness to them. My parents have viewed their grandchildren as potential converts, which is a big reason they don't see them any more!
Perhaps you need to set rules with your parents -- no witnessing, or else you don't get to see the grandkids. They have no right to put their fear of God into your kids.
I know, what's sad though is that despite my parents and all their faults I still have such a strong sense of family. Ever since they've shut me out of their lives I have lived with the hopes that one day they will wake up to the illusions they have been led to believe and realize that I Have Been Here with more Christian Like behavior than themselves, waiting for them to return to my life (I know it's a false hope but it's a hope) as a parent should be :(
Well, I guess I have to cancel my book collection for my grandkids of the Dr.Suess series, and get me such a fine and blessed book such as that!.............NOT!
Very good on bringing out a good point on this BS crap from the JW's
Christians in general are fed a sanitized version of the Bible. They don't want to consider or aren't informed of the bloody gruesome acts that permeate the old testament, and the bloodlust of the Hebrew war god.
The publishers of My Book of Bible Stories certainly had much source material to glean in order to try to instill a fear of God and trust of organization in the children of their adherents.
Still about 70% of us who grew up JW end up leaving. The JW religion is geared more to adults.
Good Job. I remember when it came out. I still say it's why I'm such a horror movie freak. I can't get enough. Nothing like a little bloodshed and violence to bring back the good ol' childhood at the Kingdom Hall!
You missed the queen mother picture of them all in that book, the one picture of the soldier hanging the baby upside down with the sword in the other hand...and the two women are fighting over the baby and the king demands the soldier to cut the baby into two pieces....DUDE THAT FREAKED THE HELL OUT OF ME AS A WITNESS CHILD!
there are a lot of subliminal images in those images as well. There are demonic faces and things hidden in the clothes and background, it's all pretty creepy. They sure do start the fear training from birth.
ok dude I'm back. anyways, I will agree with you on saying that those books does instill the fear of God in very young children but just like all things any other child may be exposed to,it's not ment to actually scare them. Granted, some pics did make me a scared but the age group that publication is geered to, kids that age gets scared over dumb things so you can't info to conclude that Jw's are evil cuz we aren't.
Fear is the stock in trade of religion, it's what many of them use to sell their brand of hope.
JW's are no exception to this. When I was a young JW, I felt afraid to befriend non-JW kids because they would soon die at Armageddon, and because I was told they were 'bad association'. I was also shown scary pictures of what would happen to non-JW kids.
I don't accuse individual JW's of being evil. I do accuse WTS leadership of doing whatever it takes, including fear, to influence people.
Ok dude, the wts does not do whatever it takes to influence people. they really are just preaching what is in the bible. Granted, pushing these on children too young is wrong on some level but the wts is not embellishing on the sheer purpose to scare young children
Much of the Bible should be rated "R" or "PG-13" due to violent nature or sexual content.
I don't know if religions other than JW's use the scary parts of the Bible to instill fear / loyalty into children. I do know the WTS incorporates Old Testament tales of death and destruction into their literature that children read, and say this is what's about to happen to the rest of the world.
I got this book as a gift from my brother. He got it when it was just released in Canada in 1978. It is the same yellow book as yours. I used to read this to my first born, it was hard to explain the violence. I now have three other boys but refuse to open this book to them. It is another mind control tactic from the WTS.
Great video! I think many of the Witnesses publications shed light on a little fact they would like to hide: The Bible is tremendously and unnecessarily violent. I am glad to see new videos and such, you do great work. Please keep it up!
At the risk of defending the WT, I think if I were enslaved, whipped, and abused for decades, I'd probably be pretty happy to see my captors die. Still, the whole thing is fiction anyway.
Good points. The WT (and presumably lots of other religious groups) are of the mindset that anything that can be found in the Bible is appropriate for children. I remember being, idk, I think around 11 or 12 years old, and reading about the Shulamite's boyfriend 'picking her date clusters'. Tremendously embarrassing... People being disemboweled, men 'spilling semen,' people drowned by god... doesn't matter. All good for kids, as long as it comes in the Bible.
Yeah, that book was disturbing as hell for me to read. Especially the black and white image of the impaled, bleeding Jesus at the end.
I remember reading "Mankind's Search for God" just so I could find the gory pictures inside. Not far into the book, they had some poor Aztec sacrifice getting his heart ripped out, and the blood running down the steps of the pyramid.
That was a re-print in 1990 with some updated pictures. There was this copy here which was just before the 80's, then there was another version with a simple brown cover in about 1983, I have a copy of that with pictures I drew in it when I was 2 and 3.
hollywood don`t have anything thing that the watchtower don`t all ready have in the way of vilence...
Hollywood always has a good guy fighting against evil in most all vilent moves. The good guy winning at the end..even if he has to die in his fight against Evil ( Clint Eastwood Grand Torino ) is a perfect example.
You got to wonder about the bible stories because like you said god could kill with out spilling one drop of blood?
I feel sorry for JW kids in general. They have such little freedom. I contrast this with my own Christian worldview where children in our churches have the freedom to participate in R.E. lessons, and have their own sunday schools and youth groups for teenagers. I have never understood why JW grown ups could think for a minute that kids should sit through a very dry service aimed at grown ups. Kids in the Kingdom Halls get bored and then get chastised when they fidget.
There's also the picture of Goliath bleeding from his head next to David

As you can imagine, this made me wary of getting to know them very well.

liquidscorpion3 1 year ago
@liquidscorpion3 - "My Book of Bible Stories" was most definitely written for children with JW parents. I was at the 1978 convention where they released it, and they made it quite clear that the format was designed for children. I will add that it was clearly intended to introduce some basic JW doctrines like "you can live forever on earth" to the JW tykes.

Its sad, but I had that book memorized cover to cover as a toddler! "He's three but reads at the level of a serial killer."

Streight to the point. Never seen such a violent book that is made for little Children. You realy let me leel that i have finaly made the right choise. Thanks, all the way from Belgium-Europe.
patjeism 1 year ago
It boggles my mind how you can't see the scenes of violence as a truthful history and children do need to know these things so that they never believe that earth under Satanic rule is safe from people or from Gods judgments for insubordination.
Incidentally the picture is not of Lot. I suppose a Santa Claus that brings all good children toys on Christmas is a better way to deal with the reality of this world. How do you think the children who get no presents feel? Now THAT is cruel.
thejahoflife 1 year ago
@thejahoflife Well to a point, but why to the Watchtower have to base everything on the people who were bad and the punishments they got. They could easily make a children's book about the good things people did and how it pleased God, and the blessings they got. Why do everything based on the fear and punishment side of God and not the loving kindness side. God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. Psalm 145 v 8-9. But I agree with your point about Santa!
wsjulz 1 year ago
I remember reading this book when I was a child. My mother was a Jehovah's Witness- though she is non-practicing now. I agree to an extent with what you're trying to do here. Of course- this is VERY violent children's book... but, all of this violence happened to people who needed to be "punished" for their "sins". God does not punish you if you are a good little Christian. I think that's what the book was trying to say- not that you will be killed dramatically no matter what.
UpstaginglyBright 1 year ago
@UpstaginglyBright - When I was a child being raised by JW parents, the images of wicked people coming to their violent death at Armageddon did put a certain fear into me. The JW's teach that all who aren't following the Bible as they explain it will die violently. This teaching made me fear making friends with my schoolmates, thinking that they would soon die in the way I saw portrayed in Watchtower literature. Such pictures really screw with a kid's mind.
cooper79jeffr 1 year ago
@UpstaginglyBright Jehavah God will kill little babies just because there parents aren't JW. That's what's been told by the Watchtower. Is that a way of being a 'good' God? Don't think so!
patjeism 1 year ago
I remember feeling as though the grown ups were talking down to me, as if I was an idiot, whenever these stories were read to me. I grew up in a secretive, violent jw home so those pictures were nothing compare to what I lived every day. I hate that book to this day!
mistorie 1 year ago
Un-freakin-believable! I thought they didn't create books to scare children into religion after the 19th century!!! O_O
[Of course the 19th century ones were worse]
"See the child as he bangs his fists against the oven door. See his face, it is full of sorrow. Hear his shrieks. Do you hear that sound like a kettle boiling? That's not a kettle. It is the boy's blood boiling in his veins, for when he lived his blood boiled to do wicked things." - From a 19th century children's book about Hell
skycomet19 1 year ago
So... statues of Jesus bloody and mutilated on a cross is appropriate for church, and we should be ASHAMED for not putting crosses all over ourselves....
That's OK.

i noticed MrRick1234 comment.
NeedUpgrade 2 years ago
@NeedUpgrade - Agreed. The Book of Bible Stories portrays a lot of the violence, mayhem and bad acting of people in the Old Testament. But you know the solution -- the God of War has your back if you do the right thing, and he'll fry all the bad people (such as those bad kids at school who tease you because they don't understand your religion).
The Bible Stories book is a gateway for young children of JW's, teaching them to rely on the Watchtower for spiritual guidance.
cooper79jeffr 2 years ago
@cooper79jeffr I would rather rely on just the Bible for guidance.
wsjulz 1 year ago
@wsjulz I'd rather rely on common sense than a 2000 year old book that has been edited heavily over the years in such a way that it likely no longer resembles itself in its original form.
XuliusCaesar 8 months ago
because even if the bible is the "word of god" (I don't believe that) its been heavily edited throughout the years, so its only a partial "word of god".

TheJasonX3000 2 years ago
@TheJasonX3000 - Regarding the book "My Book of Bible Stories" : The Watchtower website says this book is "especially designed for children". So you can stop with your spin that the book is for general Bible study.
And why should children be exposed to "warning" pictures of babies dying? The WTS is using fear even on its littlest adherents. This is monstrous.
cooper79jeffr 2 years ago
As an ex jw I want to thank you for bringing these pictures and texts to the fore front. I was obviously so blind to the fact that these pics etc can only be damaging for a young mind. I doubt very much whether the majority of jw's realise the violent nature of the material they expose thier children to and as i remember the book you feature here is the first book that is given to jw child other than the bible possibly. Truly and very sadly, seeds of an unaturel view of all else outside the jws
drumz29 2 years ago
@drumz29 - I would say that even the Bible itself contains violence, hatred, rape by "faithful" servants of God, ethnic cleansing, denigration of women, and a message of intolerance. Most or all Christian religions only feature the parts of the Bible that seem to suit their particular purpose.
cooper79jeffr 2 years ago

bababybwoo 2 years ago
I am 15 years old and at the age of 1 i had more common sense and faith than you will ever have in your whole life.(if you do not return) All of the people in the book that you are holding up died for a reason. Jesus died for us if he did not, then you and i would not be here today. And the rest of the people were wicked because they were probably trying to kill other people and cause them to lose out in their chance of life or they were disobedient. Guard your words carefully.
808ghettoqun 2 years ago
@808ghettoqun common sense and faith don't belong together, kiddo. faith is believing what you are told to believe, and common sense is discovering what you were told to believe is a bunch of BS. Life only happens when you shed the restraints of religious doctrine and realise that there is not a "god". Sorry to burst your bubble, but THATS the truth.

akashafuhr 2 years ago
and great work on this video...you know I never realized how those pictures conditioned us.
I am very sorry to say I did that to him...and I regret it to this day.
canpeace40 2 years ago 4
Regrets don't do anything positive. Congratulations on getting out, and you did the best thing you could for your son by deprogamming him while still young so he could enjoy his teenage years. Be proud of your acomplishment :)
CSTheApostate 2 years ago 5
yes...I agree about regrets...they are non-productive.
And thank you for realizing how hard it was to leave that cult and still be able to raise my son on my own.
I left my abusive jw ex and I was the one that was df'ed. I lost everybody...my "friends" and my whole "family". The JW's were jerks to me all the while trying to break free from a control freak.
But, years later, I actually would like to thanks to elders on my jc...because I have never been so satisfied and happy with my life.
canpeace40 2 years ago
Amen to your comments, canpeace. The elders did me a huge favor by showing me the door. It opened up a whole new world for me.
Your story about being the victim blamed by the JW elders rings true. If you're not in the elders' clique, and a difficult situation arises, they will find a way to kick you out and make you look like the villain. The elders' wives hear the details to turn into slanted gossip for the rest of the ninnies in the hall! (Your post got me steamed at the JW's again.)
cooper79jeffr 2 years ago
ohhhhh....no. I didn't mean to make anyone upset.
It was the hardest thing I ever had to do (break free from the cult) like it was for all of you too. I admire all ex-jw's and those you remain an ex-jw.
The first couple of years after I left...I was thinking of going back just to ease my pain from losing my family.
But I learned conditional love is not worth going back to the cult and being treated like I am a inferior sex, Plus...my son is the most important person in my life.
canpeace40 2 years ago
Welldone for leaving this satanic cult and deprogrammed yourself and son. By what I see in the comment, you are very relieved as if the JW put too much on you. You playing audio tapes to your son is part of the watchtower mentality and therefore it is not your fault because you was brainwashed to do that.
vincent0ne 2 years ago
yes...I was brainwashed.
A loving god would never do that to his children.
canpeace40 2 years ago
That is seriously is bad, that is like listening to a horror film. I questioned a JW once about scary images in books. They replied to me and said kids love all the scary stuff and violent stuff. No wonder they are psycholgically not with it. There is another idiot on youtube called Oribear he is some brainwashed idiot as he always kept going on about apostates being the worse and they should die in most of his comments left on another page
vincent0ne 2 years ago
yeah...I know.
Exjw's would not be warning either.
canpeace40 2 years ago
@canpeace40 Don't regret it (you played that tapes.) At that time you didn't know it was wrong to do so. Don't feel sorry! Look at the time being, this verry moment. Now you know that it is wrong, now you have deprogrammed your son, what i believe was verry dificult to do. So now your son is a normal teenager. He must be verry thankfull that you finaly did the right thing. (I Hope you understand this message, 'cause my English isn't that good.) Greetings from Belgium-Europe.

BATMANMATRIXZERO1 2 years ago
Impressionable children should not be scared into obeying a God or a religion. JW literature directed at children presents frightening images that are not appropriate for that age.
When I was a JW child, I was taught many falsehoods. One in the 1969 Awake that said the time left in this world was so short, that I needed to face the fact that I could not have a career in this world. That wasn't a truth. The teaching that my non-JW schoolmates would soon die a violent death was also untrue.

My son came home from visiting his JW grandparents the other day and he told me "Granny said since we don't go to the kingdom Hall Jehovah is going to kill us". I naturally freaked out and confronted my parents about it. My mother said that she said no such thing; however, she was reading him a story from the My Book of Bible story's, she proceeded to tell me that he's just a smart kid for him to interpret what he was reading as destruction for us if we didn't come back!
happie2befree 2 years ago
Happie -- I am very suspicious about your mother's claims "she said no such thing". Let kids go to their JW grandparents and you can bet grampa or grandma will try to witness to them. My parents have viewed their grandchildren as potential converts, which is a big reason they don't see them any more!
Perhaps you need to set rules with your parents -- no witnessing, or else you don't get to see the grandkids. They have no right to put their fear of God into your kids.
cooper79jeffr 2 years ago
I know, what's sad though is that despite my parents and all their faults I still have such a strong sense of family. Ever since they've shut me out of their lives I have lived with the hopes that one day they will wake up to the illusions they have been led to believe and realize that I Have Been Here with more Christian Like behavior than themselves, waiting for them to return to my life (I know it's a false hope but it's a hope) as a parent should be :(

The JW religion is geared more to adults.

muzikman74 2 years ago
there are a lot of subliminal images in those images as well.

TheYomama123456 2 years ago

It is another mind control tactic from the WTS.

lol! Great review video. The WBTS has so many double standards.

All good for kids, as long as it comes in the Bible.
nathanaelstacy1 2 years ago 2
BTW, when I say reading about the Shulamite's boyfriend, I mean as in, a #2 talk in the KH, in front of 150 people.

How about the scripture which talks about how big people's genitals are and how much they ejaculate? Good wholesome education.

When did that book come out? Must have been after my time.
utukkuxul 2 years ago
I guess you got out awhile ago. It was published in 1990.
JBSauce 2 years ago
Hm, no, I was still in. We must have either not studied it, or I simply have forgotten it.
utukkuxul 2 years ago
That was a re-print in 1990 with some updated pictures. There was this copy here which was just before the 80's, then there was another version with a simple brown cover in about 1983, I have a copy of that with pictures I drew in it when I was 2 and 3.
TimKilgore 2 years ago
I didn't know that. The version I'm familiar with, the one with the red cover, doesn't mention the other publishing dates.
JBSauce 2 years ago
There's the yellow and red cover, the plain brown cover, then a more orange-red cover. You're a youngin' though :)
TimKilgore 2 years ago
Wait a sec--are you talking about "My Book of Bible Stories" or "Mankind's Search for God?" I was making reference to MSfG.
JBSauce 2 years ago
Ah ha, that would explain our disconnect. You're right MSfG was 1990 a little orange book. I was talking about My Book fo Bible Stories.

That makes sense now. Yes, I still have the 1978 MBoBS. I don't think we ever got an updated version.

hollywood don`t have anything thing that the watchtower don`t all ready have in the way of vilence...
Hollywood always has a good guy fighting against evil in most all vilent moves. The good guy winning at the end..even if he has to die in his fight against Evil ( Clint Eastwood Grand Torino ) is a perfect example.
You got to wonder about the bible stories because like you said god could kill with out spilling one drop of blood?
clnmyjts 2 years ago
I've wondered that myself. Why did there have to be wars, mass drownings, etc when God could just will the bad guys to drop dead?

I feel sorry for JW kids in general. They have such little freedom. I contrast this with my own Christian worldview where children in our churches have the freedom to participate in R.E. lessons, and have their own sunday schools and youth groups for teenagers. I have never understood why JW grown ups could think for a minute that kids should sit through a very dry service aimed at grown ups. Kids in the Kingdom Halls get bored and then get chastised when they fidget.

That book used to terrify me when I was little... I remember I would ask, "If Jehovah loves us, why would He do that?"
