Great movie...and it offers some tips about the real story of drugs... many of the facts are not so fictitious (for example the "face plastic-surgery" of the drug lord...it really happened to a Juarez drug lord) and for very gram of cocaine, heroine and amphetamines there're hundreds of deads (from overdose or from torture/murder in south america) from colombia, to mexico ending in USA and Europe
Still, the editing is very good but just with another great Benicio film AND performance 21 Grams, the editing is based on the script n editors dont interfere....Overall,editing is about the"flow" of a scene, deciding where how long to let the shot linger on an actors face before you cut to the one he´s in dialogue with for instance, its about noticing errors in details n making sense of all those seperate takes in a way that will keep our attention.Gladiator MIGHT´ve deserved this one,
Absolutely incredible movie. This is a perfect example of all the major elements of a movie working together, the script, direction, acting, editing, music.
I would say Traffic is one of the strongest Best Picture winners of the last 15 years.
@riazomonero It´s a great, great movie and Benicio especially is beyond charismatic and believable. Still,I dont agree with it being one of the strongest best picture winners of the last 15 years..or actually ever.Since it didn´t win best Picture. It was up for 5 oscars and won 4...the one it lost was best picture.
@Sumumabitch78 Ah my mistake. I thought it won best picture. I remember now that Gladiator won best picture that year. Well its a bit of a shame but both movies are great in their own right. I agree with you about Benicio, hes really great in Traffic, I enjoyed all of his scenes.
Loved the movie. I wish in the end, Don Cheadle shot Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband. Whatever, the smirk on his face was enough to leave me happy. Overall, one of the best movies I've ever seen. I just finished it. Can't believe I hadn't seen it earlier.
The spanish dialog, enphasis, and street slang for all american movies is wrong, it could all use improvement, I could very easly change all of that, does anyone know anyone in the business, I'd be happy to help out, and make history..
I haven't seen an interesting drug-dealer-movie jet. Including this one they're all boring. 60 % of this movie is yellow and 25 % is blue. The only watchable storyline in here was the daughter of Wakefield. That's it!
If you don't see my point of view watch "Crash" when you'll understand the difference between interesting and boring story telling.
@thugsouljaa I find if you learn something from these films, they are as good as you wanna make them. The story in Traffic was mutli-layered story of Mexico and U.S borders...... Blow was one mans account........trainspotting was the first of its kind to show heroin
this movie has been out for years, its a complete copy of a european movie called traffic which was about the uk/europe and heroin,in this movie they just changed it to america and cocaine but the exact same story.
how can it be a 'copy' if these are the type of things goin on in mex. wether its a copy or not...its based on true events that go on cuz of the cartels in mex bringin coke over to the states.
@kawz23 Youré right, these things are happening right now in Mexico. No copy needed to realize this is true. However, we can't forget, or make ourselves 'blind', that half part of this problem is drugs consumed in U.S. by citizens all around the country. Certanly, Mexico's laws are shit, Mexico's government employees are paid by drugs dealers and protect them to introduce drugs into US. We can't hide our main fault behind mexican mess: To comsume drugs. As long we consume, traffic will go on.
@Lanegrapatudona As a chemist I'm quite aware of the ethical dimension to one's craft. Unfortunately a great majority of chemists are unwilling to hold the corrupt U.S. Congress' accountable for this cat & mouse game. A Free Government isn't charged with the job of protecting ourselves from ourselves. Only the supply side is required. Employers must assume responsibility for mandates: not the government. The crime is in the legislator's craft: not the drug experimenter.
@Lanegrapatudona Don't forget U.S. immigration law is shit, and gun laws in America are a total joke if not a lack thereof. The toy industry is more heavily regulated than the gun industry. Watch out if you mention even the slightest sane suggestion on gun control in this country or you'll have the NRA-funded, neo-con, Rush rhetoric-spewing Republicans (and their moderate Democrat lackeys) barking in your ear about it violating the 2nd Amendment.
The key diff between this movie and crash was...crash involved way too many characters and so felt disjointed. This followed principly 3-4 character scenes. Thus, it's far more organized than crash and just a far better movie.
most people love crash, but not this, and i dont know why... i think ttraffic is 10 times better... it subtly discusses social issues and doesnt throw it in ur face like in crash. its kind of hard to explain what makes this movie so good since there is little action and little comedy, but its just amazing
i recommend trafic mate, i love crash but traffic is good as well, i wouldnt say good as crash emotionally, cos some of crash scenes are so good at that, but traffic is very good even though some parts are same which people say copied traffic.
Oh yeah, Traffic was a great film. I thought Crash was unrealistic and the acting was terrible and overdone. I couldn't believe it went on to win an Oscar.
This was an excellent movie, primarily because of the editor's skills (it won that Oscar) which are like the eye of God watching over all these elements as they co-exist together. Benicio del Toro is magnificent.
@ytcarol Traffic deserved its oscars for best director, script n Benicio n it´s different filter n feel for every story certainly should´ve earned it a best cinematography nom.Still, this script made the editing seem more brilliant then it really is.Its whats on paper thats been filmed. The way these storys go from seperate stories to intertwining is not thanx 2 the editor since he follows the script n it wasnt like it was 3 seperate stories that he himself put together n arranged in this order.
@Sumumabitch78 Really I do agree that everyone who worked on this deserves recognition, as it took amazing teamwork to put it together in this way. Now I have to go back and watch it again.
The end of the trailer is music from Pieter Bourke and Lisa Gerrard. They made the music for "The Insider" as well. The end of the movie is from Brian Eno, the title of the song is "Ascent."
