When we wore NBC suits in USMC, many of us would cheat and put the gasmask over the top of our head and point our heads down, so we could watch our feet, but to the front it would appear that you have your gasmask on. Obviously, in a gas attack this would not work!

Obviously you never haven't worn NBC suit. It was pretty much like that in my days in Finnish Army, only with more guys passing out.

Gut, sprechen wir deutsch, wenn wir schon aus dem gleichen Land kommen. Ob die Bundeswehr im Falle eines tatsächlichen Nah-Ost-Konfliktes alt ausgesehen hätte, unter Anwendung konventioneller Waffen versteht sich, ist reine Spekulation. Der Konflikt hat schließlich nicht stattgefunden. Und zumindest im Katastrophenschutz sieht die BW keineswegs alt aus, im Gegenteil alle Welt schreit nach ihr, wenn irgendwo wieder mal hunderttausend Opfer zu versorgen sind.

NVA ceased in its existence while the Bundeswehr, as jokeful it is at least has proven itself as a professional rescue and protection organisation for catastrophies like floods and earthquakes. one of my uncles was in the red army, and whatched over the NVA recruits, we have many pics of the bordwe with hundreds of these NVA recruits in their chem suits just chilling out and in one you see the bright sideof the cold war, some DDR recruits were talking to some american marines it was great, we have many pics of that, the americans were laughing at them!

I think you will find that this is a fairly common general situation in any army - especially amongst new recruits. Despite finding this sequence rather amusing, I feel that it is important to point out that the real NVA was a very professional and potent army. It was certainly no joke, and was of a very good quality.
