I also own a Roland R-70 (owned from new), and it's a great machine. The only notable sounds missing are, inexplicably, the TR-909 hi-hats. I've no idea why Roland didn't add them to the internal ROM (which are present on the R8). Only a very few snare sounds are 'in vogue' of its introduction (1992). It has just about every other neutral percussion sound you could want, with excellent pads, editing, menu interface... and it looks good too.

It be nice if someone showed how to use it, make a beat to record and how the controls work. hitting the pads with your fingers isnt showing anybody anything.

If I understand you correctly, the samples in the drum machine cannot be loaded into any other system. They are built into the drum machine and to my knowledge can not be midi dumped etc into any other system eg external harddrive. You can only use Rolands own cards to add extra memory for patterns not sampled sounds. Hope this helps.

All the samples in this machine were also available in Roland's TD-7 electronic drum system a couple of years later. They have a lot of dynamics and sound very clean (44k 16bits).

The only problem with them is their short length and abrupt decay, especially the cymbals even though they loop back and forth (rather badly) toward the end. That's why Roland had to include a reverb and delay to compensate. Finally the TR-808 sounds are too static to be convincing, especially the hand claps. MHO

I forgot to tell you that your 3 parts demo on this machine was well worth watching! It helped me a lot on a possible future purchase of an R-70.

Glad it was of some use to you. I don't think I'll be getting a call from a top television producer for my presentation skills though LOL. Checked out the TD-7 and let my friend know about it as well. It seems to have loads of other sounds on it as well. I'd love to own one to have a bash on it.

I agree regarding the 808 sounds, but the cymbals are fantastic. I've used them on over 100 songs over the years.
