There are homeless advcocates that usually patrol where the homeless live in any city and try to get them off the street. Half of them can get Social Security, and SSI, and live in a apt, senior or handicapped only pay what your income is!!
FYI, I've never been drunk, nor have I ever done so much as smoke weed (which is more than a lot of "fine and upstanding citizens" can say). I've been a committed Christian since 1969. But I still find myself in need of emergency housing, after spending the past 10 months or so sleeping on the couch of a friend, whose house was recently foreclosed.
According to Luke 9:58, Jesus was a homeless man. So if homeless folks are "losers", as some folks claim, then Christ was a "loser" too.
For the clueless individuals who think that homeless people all conform to the worst stereotypes about homelessness, let me remind you that an awful lot of "working poor" are just a paycheck or two away from losing their homes. Not all homeless people are living on the streets. People who are forced to stay temporarily with friends or relatives, because they can't afford security desposits and rent, and because jobs are very scarce, are technically homeless. So get some humility and compassion.
The sad truth is that most of the chronic homeless in San Francisco are mentally ill or drug addicts or both. I've been yelled at in Golden Gate Park and on Market Street by crazies and its not a pleasant or rational experience.
I got there, homeless, in 1998, after my wife took everything. I tried hard to get into a shelter. Mission Rock, and the Presbyterian home. I got a job, staying at Pres, doing phone surveys. Then I applied for a job I saw in the paper. It was for a training program for selling stocks. I got the job, completed the training, and passed my Series 7. From homeless to Stock Broker, with a nice apartment, in less than a year. Thank you, Pres, and David! I couldn't have done it without you!
i lived here and was homeless on these very streets you say money has been thrown at them not really i left because of newsome his whole care not cash is bs Dont be so quik to judge these people you say get a job well how are you supposed to get a job when you don't have an adresse or place to take a shower or nice clothes to wear or if you get so luck to get those nice clothes a place to store them properly and keep them clean these are people to most are way more interesting than us
moved there june 4th of this year and couldnt handle it. 3 months later i had to move. what a horrible place san francisco is :( some of the ppl i swa in this video are still there in the same places doing the same thing. awful :( will never go back
1Th1617 - I live here and your insinuation that the rich of the city don't care about the homeless because they contributed money for a new museum is shallow. Money has been thrown at all sorts of programs geared toward the homeless, facilities, treatment, etc etc etc and it never solves the problem. These people need to quit receiving money and realize they have an obligation to themselves to make an effort to get off their substances so they can do something. They have all the help they need.
I lived there for five years in the mid-90's. I could no longer take it. The rich of the city contributed money to build a new modern art museum while people lay on the ground, poop on sidewalks, etc. (and right around the new museum). What a sad and sick place.
