I would love it if they'd get back in the studio together, all my favourite Madonna songs (Like a Prayer, Frozen, Live to Tell) are Patrick produced and co-written. He's exceptionally talented and he and Madonna make an amazing partnership.

People use 'wow' too often on Youtube.

But this one performance - and piece of music - where 'wow' is apt.

It stirs such deep emotion, visceral and brooding, and evocative. Madonna's lyrics were perfect and rendered so heartfeltly, but the music itself stands on its own too, and always did (the instrumental was released with the single in the 1980s).

Art. That's what it is. And unfortunately this music, and Madonna's lyrics, are more or less forgotten by the music industry.

@RETROHEAVEN1 I believe Madonna was responsible for composing the chorus of this song too. As much as I am a sucker for Mr Leonard's composing skills I feel, in fairness, this has to be told. Agreably At Close Range is a killer movie, made perfect by Mr Leonards delicate touch. Never will forget the pre-titles where "Music by Patrick Leonard" lights up the room.

I think Maddy did her very best work in collaboration with mr Leonard too (perhaps espec. the Like A Prayer LP), though as far as I'm concerned his collaboration with other artists, at least in some cases, worked out way better, though perhaps not generated as much sales or airplay.

For those who can afford it. There's a cult following for anything At Close Range related and at Amazon the price of the soundtrack for the movie would basically take care of the budget deficit.

I don't think this version has been previously released anywhere by anyone as a commercial recording. The soundtrack Gina relates to is layered by synthesizers and arranged in a different fashion. Those themes can however be found on here.

The At Close Range Theme that Live To Tell is based on didn't have any vocals. Then Maddy added the chorus bit and did the lyrics (or the bulk of them) and Live To Tell was born.

treasure. I play this on piano too. Obviously, mine is different. Did Leonard compose it? Genius melody. Leonard has legitimate piano training. I love the modulations he uses in here. @ 4'22" I wished he had paused about 2 more seconds before going back in.

Yep, he did the score for the movie At Close Range which then was condensed with Madonna's cooperation into Live To Tell, which is heard during the end titles of that movie. The year after LTT was released on the Madonna album True Blue
