  • dose the power cord match the ones from the Cobra 29LTD Classic's?

  • I have an old 1979 Cobra 148 GTL and it works great. They just are better built than the new Chinese built radios. I know several people who have the new 148 gtls and they just dont seem to hold up as well... I do know the new 148 GTL can be modded with the new mosfet final for better perfomance but the older ones cannot..

  • This is not a Cobra..lets get this straight please.

  • nothin like my 148 GTL-DX........

  • Damn, sounded like he read the manual.

  • These late Cobra's are NOT a Cobra..

  • Yes they are total junk stay away. I modded one and the final burned up after 10 minutes. The radio ended up lasting 3 months after my customer spent 150 for me to mod it with upgrades These are not coras made by uniden these are junk. The old cobras were made starting in 78 in tiawan then went to the philippines in 89 and then went to maylasia from late 92 to late 97. The maylasia radio`s were made by ranger or rci. They are not as good as the previous models. tiawan and fili all the way!

  • "I modded one and the final burned up after 10 minutes." Now whos fault is that?

  • it the radios fault since i have built and modded over 300 old 148 and not one of them burned up after 10 minutes. the factory finals in the new 148s are crap. and adfter 3 months the radio completely stopped functioning so STAY THE F AWAY PEOPLE IF YOU ARE SMART. Cobra should be ashamed of themselves putting out such crap

  • It was the fault of cobra using inferior crap parts for their new radios if you peak and tune a real side mic 148 it does not burn up they are junk stay away. I have a very nice first year cobra 148 a 1978 the best ones by the way the boards are very thick and it is rock solid on ssb best radio i have had so far and it is peaked and tuned properly and going strong. The whole phippines are better is just bull shit some guy made that up 20 yers ago. I have built over 600 148`s they are all china

  • @SNAKERADIOSINC Not to mention the Chinese 148 sound like poo on SSB. They sound distorted. I have one that i returned to stock and it still sounds like doggie poo on SSB. LOL

  • @teamfab The new cobra 148 blows the old one away! Oops, did I say away? I just meant to say 'blows the old one'. xD

  • i love my cobra148

i think they are one of the best sounding radios

  • id like to get one of these radios how much do they go for

  • 50 to 120 bucks used. Good radio! The older ones are better. They say the new ones are made in China. Older ones had better electronics and are made in Malaysia. Cobras are great radios. I have had nine for over twenty years. I would buy one. Galaxy DX 959 are a little bit more and have a few more bells and whistles. Get what you want just don't settle for a good price. Check out CBRadiomagazine also. My first radio was a rusty Midland 23 channel.

  • The discussion in this video sounds like it was done by a 19 or 20 year old CB "Sales Engineer". Really are you kidding? Anyone that you have to explain what SSB is should not be buying this radio. You don't get any more power than the FCC authorizes. They authorize 12 watts PEP for SSB transmissions. You also don't get 80 extra channels with SSB - you just get "side band" (supressed or reduced carrier) capability on the same channels. It does use less bandwidth on SSB.

  • What were we thinking? Explaining SSB in basic terms to people that may not be familiar with it? Unthinkable!

There are lots of people who could benefit from a SSB radio that might not know that it exists - hence the video and the explanations.

With SSB, you DO transmit with more wattage, albeit on a reduced carrier signal, when compared to the standard 4 watts you can put out with a standard AM CB unit. The carrier signal is different / suppressed, but your effective range is increased.

  • how much power can i get out of it on am i was looking hopefully at some 24 or 30 watts is that posible i want it for use in mexico

  • you will need to use a special component kit to upgrade power output to 40 watts with a erf2030 transistor..

  • Hi,

If I go with the peak and tune option in the 148GTL how much RMS POWER will get on standard AM and how much power in the SSB Channels.

    Thanks in advance!

  • With a P&T you'll be looking at a minimum of 8-10 watts AM and x3 that on SSB.

  • Thank YOU! for the video. I love the cobra 148 GTL. I am making my return to CB after 15 - 17 years away from it. I just purchased this radio yesterday and i can't wait to get it.

  • Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new CB.....
