Listen I look at it this way in technical terms Linux and Macintosh are wayyy... better then Windows. But look at the overall picture not everyone uses Linux and Macs thus there are about 0 cool or fun applications for them.

sorry to be the defending fan here, but ubuntu actually has a pretty good selection of good applications included and available. Also, you can run Wine in ubuntu for windows applications that you need. Yes it may take a TON of time to configure linux to your own liking, but once you do, its really worth all of the time and effort =) btw, I use Ubuntu 9.04 & windows 7 equally. You should give it a chance =)

What you probably meant to say is 'Linux has apps for any situation that you can imagine and finding one is easy, because there isn't an endless series of clones all of which have the same features over and over again, but still charge out the butt as if its something new like on Windows.' Like one great photo app, one awesome 3D modeler, one great pro-tools like audio app, a fantastic final cut pro clone... Just pick one they all work the same. =P

lol ive just partitioned my hardrive for ubuntu lol :P pretty cool i burned an ubuntu ISO file on to a plain disk put it in CD drive and let it load..download the "acctual" ubuntu then download compiz then a whole new world opens :P

Sadly, I have to agree that there's a lack of software available for Linux - there's not an IDE that's as good as Visual Studio (well, Eclipse, maybe, but using it for C++ is it's own layer of Hell). The audio support is flawed and lacking - there's not a simple "just works" kind of software multiplexer (dmix rarely, if ever, works, and pulseaudio is quirky).

That said, I've been using Linux since 1999, and it's gotten A LOT better during the last three years.

I will move in a couple of years. I am a retro gamer and don't want most of my old games to not run at all. It will be either Win7 or "8" , or Ubuntu or Mint. Or as is the case now. Turn XP into a console (games installed only) and do everything else on Linux

Why don't you use the window manager that Windows 7 was modeled on. It's called KDE 4, you should look it up and see who did what, better, and first. We get multiple desktops, widgets (Google's and Mac's), faster boot times, better performance on many windows apps, and more. =P

Dude, it's Gutsy Gibbon, which is version 7.10 of Ubuntu, which is a type of Linux. Nice effects and all, however, I would recommend using Compiz-Fusion as Beryl is no longer really supported and Compiz-Fusion is way cooler anyways.

I'm using 400 MB of RAM on my Ubuntu Linux installation with all of this effects installed abd activated. No problem here.

For vista, with just "Aero" I would need at least 2 or 3 GB of RAM.

Linux is so smart that it can configure and install all drivers with out your help.

They have similar capabilities, but not similar interfaces. Try GimpShop, I don't know if it's actively being maintained, but I remember it being a version of the gimp with a Photoshop friendly interface.
