i too don't like sothe's look later in the game, but i think he is actually a decent unit. for rogue standards, his strength is HIGH, really. and more natural for a rogue, he has plenty of speed to avoid being doubled, and to double back with ease. his lone downfall that is shared with other rogues: low, low defense.

his movement is the classic 7 and he moves well through thickets. stealing is also nice. you have to take him so use him as your baselard user.

(you don't really want 2 rogues.)

I actually found Sothe to be a halfway decent character if u give him paragon and a ridiculous amount of BEXP. But is he as good as Volke? Hail no. *SPOILER ALERT* Sothe isn't gay, he marries Micaiah.

I had a trueblade Zihark, and hoped for an Astra activation (Zihark over Edward, since it's easy to deal with Zihark in 3-E)

or you could take all of Soren's weapons off him in 3-11

Mercy can be used to help level up weaker characters, the one that springs first to mind is Pelleas

complete a file on at least normal, then once the epilogue is finished select that file again. you will be offered to start a new game, make sure this is also at least normal, and then on level 3-13, you will be given the offer to refuse Pelleas's command to kill him

he will live, and will automatically be recruited in 4-2

Allow me to bring you up something form GameFAQs...Personal Experience means nothing. Just because your Sothe turned out decent doens't mean that mine will. In all acutality, Volke basically completely overshadows him once you get Volke. It's not even a contest.

perhaps so, but this game has a choice of 70+ characters to form an army from, so if you don't particularly care for someone (say Volke or Shinon), there are many characters who can fill the void they left behind

plus Sothe is a mandatory unit, so you might as well train him
