1 CORINTHIANS 8;6 YET FOR US THERE IS BUT ONE GOD THE FATHER FROM WHOM ALL THINGS CAME AND FOR WHOM WE LIVE AND THERE IS BUT ONE LORD JESUS CHRIST THROUGH WHOM ALL THINGS CAME AND THROUGH WHOM WE LIVE. JAMES 2;19 YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE IS ONE GOD. GOOD EVEN THE DEMONS BELIEVE THAT-- AND SHUDDER. DEUTERONOMY 6;4 HEAR O ISRAEL THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD.
I'm not much of a fan of the music being played at the worst possible times throughout the documentary, but I am sympathetic to Stephen Batchelor. The form of Buddhism I practice is Zen, and I see it through almost the same exact lens he seems to portray here.
There seems to be a bit of reluctance to go into what actually happened at the monastery when Kusan Sunim died. According to Robert E. Buswell, even while Kusan was still alive, a lot of Korean monks rioted and chased the foreign monks away over the minor issue of chilli paste in a separate dish at mealtimes. It can only be imagined what happened with nobody there on the foreigners' side anymore.
@nianfochan This doesnt really surprise me .It seems to be typical of the koreans character,,,,,anti foreigner,,, always argueing ,shouting and fighting .Not too pleasant really.!.
Years ago I sat retreats with Stephen and Martine Batchelor. Both excellent teachers, Stephen for his open minded enquiry and Martine for her grounded this-world approach. An excellent documentary which brought back fond memories.
