No offense, but Agneta is the winner in the vocal contest. She has got the most pained but pretty soprano you could want. Anni-frid's harmony completes 'the sound', but Agneta is the lead, no doubt. Bjorn got in those blue pants, and I cant blame him. Of course two couples in a band that gets famous are going to be in trouble. Sounds like Benny and Anna could've stayed, but Bjorn and Ag were young lovers, and had a kid, and Ag didnt want to be on the road, and without her vocals, all over.

ABBA didn't finish because the couples split, they all have said so.  They stopped as they had run out of creative energy. They quit touring in 1980 as Agnetha didn't want to be away from her kids for so long but they stayed together another 2 years as a studio band. In fact, Agnetha is the only one who has said that she wishes they would have stayed together for a few more years. Benny fell in love with another woman and told Frida he wanted a divorce, but they too were able to stay friends.

Dude - 75% of that aamazing Abba vocal sound is Agnetha. She is an amazing soulful singer and a great belter too. Just listen to Disillusion or the beginning of I've been waiting for you. She knows how to cry in her singing. One of the best pop female vocalists of the 20th century. Love Frida, but Anna was the core of that strong chest-voice ABBA sound that no-one has ever come close to replicating.

Love Karen, Judith and Linda. Just think there is something special about the tambre of Anna's voice. My favourite thing about Abba other than Anna's voice, is the way they worked out how to blend into a "one voice" sound when they sang in unison - like Waterloo, Nina, Mamma Mia. But listen to the girls' verse of He is Your Brother and tell me who you can hear (and the chorus). Anna just had that part-nasal full chest-belt down pat.

Hey - just out of interest, listen to Nina Pretty Ballerina (I know, very unusual) but in both verses, particularly the very beginning of the song, they really perfect the 'one voice' trick - on of their best examples, and here, I would say the blend is 50:50. Love the way they could do that. Frida sounds really good in this one.
