Wow-absolutely epic. You would think with the passage of time and the death of Keith and John that Mick & Keith would change their view on this program.
My dad would always sing the "Soon be home" part when he was on long walks with me and my sister as children and we kept complaining about how tired we were :)
The 'orrible 'oo blows the fucking lid off their own studio track live in one take with no overdubs. This performance hasn't lost its impact one bit since I first heard it 30 years ago. The feedback at 7:05 alone...holy fucking shit.
If you watch this movie The Who flat out stole the show. I absolutely love the Stones but it is fact they did not come on until the end and they were too wasted to be sharp. The Who is on fire in this movie - no argument.
@peterd1965a Not to mention that the Stones had not toured since 1966 snd the Who had been on the road for awhile. The Who upstaging the Stones was the reason that the Circus was not released until the 1990s, save for the clip of "A Quick One" on "The Kids Are Alright"
The Stones thought it would be cool to have The Who play before them. Too bad they forgot The Who were the greatest rock and roll act ever. No one could follow their performances.
Man that Keith Moon was so awesome. He was the kind of drummer any guitarist would want in his band. Totally into the music, a great performer and very innovative
The Who effectively kicked the Rolling Stones to the curb in their own backyard with this performance, which led to this movie being shelved until 1996.
Keith Moon is hilarious. He always makes faces during shows and stuff. Great drummer too. This contrasts really well with the others, who were very serious.
This may be odd comparison, but thumbs up if you also think that keith moon looks like messi!`lionel messi of barcelona in case you don't know who he is...
This performance was at the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. The Stones didn't release their performance because it was terrible BUT released the Who's.That only proves what I've said for a looooong time.....THE STONES AND THE PRECIOUS BEATLES ARE THE 2 MOST OVERRATED BANDS IN HISTORY! Both bands were/are just the adorable darlings of the press while the Who and Led Zeppelin were far and away the best bandsEVER!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!
@don62snodgrass I agree but you can't deny the Beatles later albums and the Stones....well the Stones are just a damn good band to listen to when your drinking :)
@RichardMcSundy Maybe if you typed complete sentences I could understand what your trying to tell me. I agree with a part of his statement that The Who stole the show with their performance. Now take your Mozart and Beethoven and stick them where the sun don't shine and piss off!
Who the fuck is the cunt who hit 'dislike'?!?!? This is THE WHO literally destroying the stage with one of the greatest recorded live performances in history and you dislike?!?!?
amazing. This is definately one of the best Who performances ever, up there with "My Generation" on Smothers Brothers, "Amazing Journey" at Tanglewood, "See Me, Feel Me" at Woodstock, and "Won't Get Fooled Again" from The Kids Are Alright
i DONT THINK THERE IS ANY BETTER BAND TO COME OUT OF THE SICKSTIES THAN THIS ONE, THEY EXPRESS THE IRRATIONAL ANGRY LUNACY OF THE MANIACS ON THE LEFT AND THE CRAZINESS THAT WE ARE STILL SADDLED WITH THAT HAVE MANAGED TO DESTROY THE MORAL FABRIC OF OUR CIVILIZATION VERY WELL... d
this was the best performace of the whole show .it should of been called the whos rock and roll circus .legends and daltreys vocals are second to none best live band ever
The Who, The Stones, Zeppelin…Growing up with bands like these and seeing them live in their prime makes me feel part of a special time. Having said that there are incredible bands around today (Muse comes to mind) and it's terrific to understand their influences and appreciate the progression of art. But hell, when all is said and done the mid 60's through the mid 70's was FUCKING AMAZING.
This was such a great show. I don't know why the hell the Stones refused to air it. Yoko Ono's screeching may have been irritating, but all the other performances were brilliant.
@MondoBeno I read somewhere that coz the Who were so tight coz they they were always on tour playing live, that it showed the stones' up so they pulled the plug on it. Right shame. No offense to any stones' fans, but i can see what they meant. The 'Orrible 'OO ROCK!!
There are metal bands these days...death metal, thrash metal, speed metal....metal who are not even as close as heavy as The Who....a rock'n'roll juggernaught !
This is brilliant and &%¤ing classic,Totally the most memorable moment from the show..The Stones actually felt bad entering the stage after these guys ! LOL
@dannyK2005 Pete was the first to start with the Rock Opera. This was the first wit four numbers combined into one. The one to follow was the the master piece TOMMY and the Quadrophenia.
Others would follow with long saga type numbers that spanned usually B sides and full albums like Rush, Yes etc.
Stealing the show was routine for the Who. See Woodstock, Isle of Wight, and even the more recent concert for New York.
