Dear Kenny, I love your videos, and thanks for every tips that u shared!! There's one thing I'm really confused is why the nock height should be setup at 1/8? Is it standard setting for all compound bow or by the different cam? I'm going to buy a monster MR6, so at what nock height does it require ? I watched almost all compound bow setup videos from YouTube, but I can't find a detailed explanation of a proper way to locate nock height for a compound bow. Would u mind ?
Hey man Great Vid !!!! and i like that little Tool you Got there lol , I just got my New 2011 Martin Rack Attack Bow Shoots 320 Fps and 80% Let Off But Yeah Today was a great day to tune her up with No Sun out , I did the Aline the arrow the Old School way LOL Keep shooting till It goes where u want IT lol not bad got it all set for 10 and 20 yards a 100 % the 30 needs a little more work , but did that in like a hour The Brush Arrow Rest That came with the Bow I don't Like make to much Sound
Lionel: I started bow hunting three years ago and all this is another language to me. Is there a way I can purchase books or video's on the lingo or something? I feel like an idiot every time I go into an archery store and feel like they're trying to take advantage of me!
@hynsonjr1 I'm new to archery, but it seems that just about all the stuff you're asking for is free here on YouTube... just watch more how-to and beginner videos (from various video makers) and you'll pick up on the lingo.
G'day Kenny , just a quick note to say thanks for all your instruction videos , you have helped me with my first bow set up to shoot 8 from 10 bullzeyes at 25mtrs within 1 day of owning it .. Cheers form Australia , mate ....
hey kenny you should design and sell your own center shot gauge i know i would buy one also wanted to say your videos are some of the best on youtube
hey kenney you are right the center guage is hard to find but not impossible I got mine off of ebay. just have to look for it and set the sight to inform you if any come on for sale thas what I had to do to get it. and it wastn that much about $25 dollers.
Kenny - Great video. I'm planning on installing a QAD and wasn't sure how to square things up. Thanks for the info. Question about leveling the bow...I have a single cam bow and heard the string is not level on a single cam when the bow is level. Is that true?
Kenny: You've got it going on brother !!! I picked up Archery literally 3 1/2 weeks ago and cannot put the thing down. Bought a friends 6yr old HCA that is pretty loud compared to my friends who hunt/shoot, but it seems to shoot good for me so far. My point is "I" can even understand what you're doing and appreciate it as an archery green horn. Thanks for all your time you put into this for the guys like me !!!!!

@twhah08 if you don't the arrow will be pinched and cause more problems like maybe cracking the back of the arrow where the nock goes in. Most people use d loops and you want them to be close together.
@grttaxi My brass nocks are directly on top and below the arrow nock, lightly touching the arrow nock. So thats bad right? I should lower the bottom one?
I just bought a Predator Golden Eagle bow @ a Pawn Store today. I Shot it right away and was surprised to be able to hit a Dr. Pepper bottle @ 30 yards consistintly. Should i mess with ti at all... and whats a good aaarrow rest for an old compound @ 60 lb pull that wont cause to much friction? TYVM
I have a single cam bow. So 1/8 is standard for this? For a dual cam I would set it to 0"?
Have you ever thought about putting together a bow-tuning set with all the necessary tools, string-material, spreader, etc. to re-serve, put in a D-loop, nocking point, peep-sight-etc. and sell it as a reasonably (:)) priced package? I think I'd buy one from you.
You are going to have to customize the setting for the rest most single cans should be set high. The setting is like this due to Nock travel if your nock travel is level so should your nock setup be. That string size wont matter the nock will fit
I like you vid very informative but would like to know when you are comeing out with a vid for finger shooters. @dashiznet28 Yes I did use them they were the Hades fixed blade for the buff. I use the 100gr razor tips with 1 3/4"cut and love them. I reccomend you try them you wont be disapointed.
hey i need some advice i know your not suppose to dry fire a bow or a gun but i did not do either well i was getting use to pulling my bow back and when i brought it foward i didn't let go but the string came off the top cam and i wanted to go shoot it today but i might need to repair my line or get the shop to put it back on the cam any advice
The gauge I made screws to a sight hole, adjusts fore and aft with a laterally adjustable pointer that aligns to the side of arrow, vertically centered close to the nock. Rest misalignment will produce a gap or interference between pointer and shaft as the bow is drawn by a mechanical winch device. Rest and nockpoint are adjusted until pointer travels vertically centered, and laterally even with the arrow shaft as bow is drawn. Even this only gets you "close", walk back tuning tells the tale.
@kelhawk1 Yeah me too perfect is my broadheads hitting where I aim LOL. Thats what I want to achieve in the end and its all that matters. Perfect in archery, I personally think its very hard nearly impossible to achieve perfection with anything. I think unless every part is machined to fit eachother maybe then perfection can be made well if you take out the human factor lol
@kelhawk1 broadhead tuning for me walk back, side step, paper, or whatever just beats around the bush. I hunt so the broadheads flying straight is all that matters to me. I'm not one to waist alot of time on the formalities lol
Seems like the centershot gauge you use is accurate ONLY if the plane of string travel is parallel with the surface you mount it on. When all the manufacturers' tolerances involved "stack up", this seems highly unlikely on a machined riser bow, let alone a riser that is cast. Every surface affecting limb and eccentrics alignment would have to be PERFECTLY square and/or parallel for such a gauge to be accurate. As a toolmaker/machinist I know how difficult it is to achieve perfect squareness.
@kelhawk1 The gauge doesn't measure anything. I only marks from the string and aligns the same mark to the arrow. It isnt perfect by any means but it does get you a good starting point. Plus factor in human error during the shot thats a major effect.
@grttaxi The intent of any centershot gauge is to align the arrow rest with the lateral direction the travel of the string is attempting to throw the arrow. I am trying to point out the crap shoot involved with trying to do this in a static mode. In my opinion, most people can do as good a job by eyeballing or guess. Thanks for acknowledging "it does get you a good starting point", wish the manufacturers would do the same and quit using terms like "perfect"!
Just wanted to let you know I've learned more in any three of your videos than the rest of youtube combined when it comes to bows. I've spent all morning looking for good instruction and info and your videos are great!
I have a good question. im not a millionare so im not looking for anything expensive. If i use FOB fletching. what rest/drop/fall, should i use but still hold the arrow from falling off from the side.
Hey Kenny! When deciding where to put your knock, does it matter where the arrow is in relation to the berger hole when it's level? For example, should it be lined up right through the middle of them or can it be a little higher or lower as long as you still get clearance?
No it really doesnt matter as long as you are not real high like 1" or something lol. If you are a little high it wont make any difference, I think clearance is more important.
Wow thanks for the help! I think i've watched all your videos over 100 times by now, lol! What I was always told was to put it halfway between the points of tangent, and on my Truth 2, that point puts the arrow at the very top of the berger holes when it is level.
Where would you tie your D loop using the two brass nocks insted of attaching the release to the serving? I have heard turnament shooters will tie a D loop with two brass nocks.
