  • mids are slightly diff

  • Socks with sandals? lol.

    Nice comparison though, much appreciated

  • I prefer the Clone as is has more transparency and clearer top end than the Klon - fact is they are close enough to be able to tweak toyour own preferred sound. Great VId

  • they sound different..the klon is more subtle. the other one has more crunch than the klon.

  • The Klon, hitting the front end of a Class A amp that's on the verge of breaking up, is a KILLER tone. Unfortunately, the poor video quality of the post doesn't do justice to either pedal IMHO.

FYI: The note definition on a Klon, when overdriving you amp, is the best I've heard for a pedal. Some OD pedals sound great for "lead" tones, but when you strum a barre chord, the tone gets muddy. Not with a Klon.

  • Both sound bad...thin, nasally.

  • the klon sounds more "tubular" or Satriani like

  • what kind of clone is that? and where could i maybe get one?

  • Without switching individual pedals in and out via true bypass loops the pedal order could easily be making a difference here.

  • @Realfi: unless both pedals are true bypass already

  • @seicheberlin The Klon isn't. The buffer from the Klon would be having a significant impact on the sound of the DIY Clone. Even if both pedals were true bypass the order would still have some slight impact due to the loading of extra cable length etc although I'd admit very slight.

  • @Realfi: but isn't the DIY Clone in front of the Klon? and if the DIY Clone is TB? I've seen a couple of Klon Clone layouts that omitted the buffer and used TB instead.

also, true bypass loops add extra cable length, though were talking about 10inches here, i dunno if that makes a dicernible difference

  • @seicheberlin DIY Clone is in front of the Klon which means it will always be running through the buffered Klon which will sound different compared to if it was straight into the amp.

And, yes, loops will also add cable and change the tone slightly but the idea would be to subject both pedals to the same cable lengths. When we're talking corksniffer's A/B comparisons where people are trying to discern small differences it might as well be an accurate comparison.

  • @Realfi: i see where you're coming from! you're right! Ppl make this mistake quite often on youtube when comparing different pedals.

  • The clone I got from this website sounds much better virtually almost identical!! SOUNDS FANTASTIC!!! My clone can INTERCHANGE TONE CHIPS as well~!

check it out at (build your own tone . c o m) CHEERS! :)

  • The basic tone without effects is thin and anemic. The effects don't improve things. Then later the treble on the Klon is cranked and it sounds even worse.

  • The sound character is similar to the real one though Dly clone has a little narrow sound range than the real one to me. For me, it's better to have a Klon if I really stick with the sound and I'd rather buy Fender Deluxe Reverb , Marshall 800 or Vox AC 30 amp instead of buying the Dly Clone.

  • I really think the Klon is designed to not necessarily change or modify your tone but to only make what you have (your tone) better and louder. Kind of like making it a 3-D sound if that makes sense.

  • The Klon takes it! Bigger sound, cleaverly compressed. The DIY is not bad either!

  • 99% of distortion pedals can effectively boost a tube amp. That's NOT a selling point .

My Klon pedal is a wannabe tube screamer and not a very good one at that.

I must say they have an awesome internet hype campaign going on.

  • Don't know if you received or read Klon instructions as many of them are bought second hand. It states that for the Klon to really do it's thing your amp should be up at least past half way. The amp in the clip doesn't sound that loud unless it's a champ.

  • sounds a little different, but not worth a 350 dollar difference. I bet in a blind test 3-4/100 people would notice a difference.

  • i don't get why everybody tests klons and other ODs with a clean amp. the klon especially doesn't do anything dazzling into a totally clean amp. crank up that marshall dude.

  • Hey is that "Stay " by David Bowie?

I love that song, and Great Video!

  • Yes!

Its so. I played it like "Stay" by Bowie. Thank you.

  • To my ear the Klon always sounded like it had a bit more of a sweet spot. Now, I do like the sounds coming from your clone pedal too but it was definitely lacking some depth and and bit more of a "tin" sound. That very well could've been EQ though. I'll tell you though, I have a Zvex super hard on and when its cranked I can get some superb tones. Also admire the Maxon OD 820. Nice work though, enjoyed your first vid too. I think we'd all like to see a true AB though, seperate routing.

  • I want to try to test a sound with "AB BOX" next time if there is an opportunity.

    Thank you.

  • You are still faced with the problem that the Klon is still coloring your sound. you need to use an A/B switcher pedal to do a proper demo putting one pedal in the circuit at a time. Where did you find the DIY clone kit? or did you make it yourself? cant find it through google. OD does sound good though regardless of components. I would find myself using the tone of the clone more often than the klon. my 2 cents.

  • True, the Klon has a buffered bypass, so it would be coloring the tone.

  • Sounds critically different.

  • Would you like to buy some snake oil?

  • Damn you blew the lid off Klon's scam

  • Interesting. Thanks for posting the comparison. It's hard to tell from a video cam clip compressed for YouTube, but it sounds like the clone doesn't deliver the lower-mid hump that "fattens" the sound of the Klon, which is a reason a lot of people like it. The Klon also sounds like it rolls off some of the highs, to reduce the buzzy effect of the solid state clipping circuit. The clone doesn't, so it sounds like it has more "presence" but also sounds harsher with more trebly buzz.

    Thanks!

  • I can understand it well that you say. and I glad in a precious opinion.

    Thank you.

  • ZiggyZipgun1 is Good Name!!!

I played it like "stay" of Bowie. I think that its a cool guitar riff too.

    Thanx!

  • Staaaaaaaaay! Sweet riff to choose.

  • I see. Anyway it's still a Klon and I'm lovin it. Im going to build one myself when I finish boxing de ts808.

  • Please build it by all means! I expect that Klon can win for a fight with TS808

  • Are the knobs equal?

I know it's an exact clone but I think that it sounds a little more trebbly. If knobs are not in the same setup maybe it's choice part, but its for sure a klon clone

  • knob position is about the same both.

clone uses a high quality parts of an audio system class. Therefore it may sound like Trebbly.

    Thank you

  • its always hard to get the same sound as different brands of components can have vary slight differnet values to each other and thus changes the tone slightly. you can sometimes even pair up say to ts808's from different years and they could sound slightly different because of a change of supplier for one part.

  • CLONE good sound!

  • Thank you for comment.

I think that a clone is more good sound.

  • 若干違いますね。
