The final part of the dance sequence (that is, the portion of the music that actually precedes Miss Matty's conversation with Mr. Buxton) is of course the theme music for the Cranford series itself. But I do not know what the music is before that. The composer of the series worked in various passages from folk songs and so forth in the incidental music, so perhaps the first part is indeed a period-appropriate melody. But I do not recognize it myself.
