The Civil War was mainly fought over maintaining the Union. Lincoln was hated for fighting the South because they were practically Americans too. They called him every name in the book. They said "Why should we have thousands of American Soldiers and Civilians die to free the blacks?!" But as hated as he was, Lincoln had saved the Republic. People... I'm latino. And JT89forbreakfast justified and defended the flag from where he is from with great sense of history. The Confederacy wasn't formed solely on slavery, as we must know. The North had more power in Congress, and there were sectionalists who only made decisions for the country that supported the North. Also, the South believed the state government should be stronger than the federal government, which lead to more problems in Congress as well.
um...the confederate flag was created because southern states seceded from the USA and created their own country...BECAUSE they were afraid that with the election of President Lincoln, slavery would end. So the confederate flag is the symbol of a country formed for the purpose of perpetuating slavery.

The Civil War was mainly fought over maintaining the Union. Lincoln was hated for fighting the South because they were practically Americans too. They called him every name in the book. They said "Why should we have thousands of American Soldiers and Civilians die to free the blacks?!" But as hated as he was, Lincoln had saved the Republic. By representing the confederacy, you represent their ideals and goals, and their goals were to defeat the north and keep slavery legal within the united states. It wasn't until the end of the war did Abraham's goals in the war shifted to abolishing slavery. By having a Confederate Flag, it simply is a symbol of the south, and that you're proud that you're from the south. It is in no way racist if he clearly states he is NOT racist. End of story. I suppose all the other countries that had slavery are also racist

The Confederacy wasn't formed solely on slavery, as we must know. The North had more power in Congress, and there were sectionalists who only made decisions for the country that supported the North. Also, the South believed the state government should be stronger than the federal government, which lead to more problems in Congress as well.
