  • Td5 Disco's can punch well over their weight.. I know I've got one! 7.5 tonner was the biggest I've pulled though.

Bet the front brakes were stinking after that because the traction control was probably on overtime.

Remember the truck was probably only just stuck and the help from the Disco was just enough.

BTW buy a decent kinetic rope, used wisely it will stop the shock when the slack takes up and will help you get a heavy vehicle moving.

  • For the countless noobs watching this, the last 3-4 seconds explains every thing.

First, the truck is a piece of Euro crap with out duel drive axles. Hence, no diff lock capability.

Second, In spite of the trailer being loaded, the load extends so far back, it over hangs the trailer. This takes the weight off the drive axle

  • their pulling power is astonishing......fabulous vehicles

  • PITY ABOUT THEIR RELIABILITY THOUGH

  • @Moosemuir ??? When it snows they are the only cars out and about. So on that score they are 100% reliable. Landrovers are working vehicles, on a daily basis they put up with more abuse than anything you can mention. I don’t see many other near 20 year old cars pulling that lorry in the dry let alone in the snow. Think on old chum.

  • land rover...................never gives up

  • He's very generous to offer to bend his chassis trying to yank it up. Deffo no rust in that crossmember!

  • A couple things I noticed, the tractor-trailer driver did not put on chains, the load is improperly loaded on the truck there is extra material at the far end of the flatbed this would make the back heavier making it difficult for the drive wheels to achieve traction.

  • @RudeMcNasty the more weight over the trailer axles is most likely to keep within the axle weight limits we have in the UK but if you can tell each axle weight from the clip your good

  • nothing pulls like a landy eyy lads :P ONE LIFE LIVE IT !!!!!

  • I agree, I've done loads of towing out with my disco 300tdi last two winters. But before we all get too carried away, this artic has the lazy axle up in the air, so it's not fully laden by any measure.

Best car I've ever owned though by a mile.

  • @MStanleyRoss another reason to pull up the 3rd axle is even if you are near the top end of your max weight, you would still pull her up in these conditions.

It is not a driven axle so all it does is take weight (and traction) off the rear axle :)

  • Hey, everytime it snows me and my dad go out in our land rover and tow vans etc out of ditches last year we towed a lorry!

  • Brilliant !

    Dad's Army all the Way....;)

    Thanks for Posting.

  • 97% truck + 3% Disco = movement.

  • to majstore star radi discovery kad je u pravim rukama

  • bravo maestro molto bene complimenti!!!

  • Plucky Little Landie =) Good Old 4x4s

  • i pulled a artic the other day in the mud with my Defender 90

  • @216StealthSS Not if it was in low range.

  • what engine

  • @craigw121 If I had to guess I'd say it's a 300Tdi. For our American friends thats a 2.5 litre turbo diesel puting out 111bhp. This isn't about horsepower it's about traction. I'm guessing from the speed of the wheels he was in low box with the engine at about 1500rpm. And I'll bet that Disco was on standard tyres, which are pretty good in the snow.

I think any Land Rover (except a Freelander) could have done this, right back to a 1948 Series 1. Its traction that counts, not power.

  • @marklandynut and tourqe*

  • lol the little disco that could =]

  • turcker should have had a bag of road salt handy, bit of that jammed in your wheel grooves and that hill wouldn't've been a problem eh

  • BEAST!!!

  • pusher sucks! thats why they dont get any grip at all....

  • pusher sucks on the trucks. thats why they dont get any grip.

  • I've just come back from working in Poland, in November most people change from their summer tyres to winter tyres, so when it snows, they just drive a little slower, but trucks don't change their tyres, so when there is a slight incline, the truck gets stuck, and the cars get stuck behind them, a no win situation.

  • Is it me, why didnt the truck driver lower the other axles? or are they not driving wheels?

  • @deliow The reason they didnt lower the other axle was because lowering it only spreads the weight and weight = grip the more weight on one set the more grip sharing weight only makes it lighter on the axle therefore losing traction

  • @the69gringo But double the footprint = double the grip.

  • @juzzlookin

Coulda maybe just been a 6x2 truck, therefore lowering the middle set would have just caused more unwanted friction to act against the hill?

  • @juzzlookin i first thought that but as a trucker i can tell you the weight distribution would be greater therefore making the grip less

  • Fuck ye

  • sometimes it just takes a little help

  • woulda been faster with a Subaru. :p

    /watch?v=U9bhus_1Oos

  • only a landy eh!

  • Never seen this happen to an American truck.... Maybe if he put his second set of axles down and was using chains, which is a requirement for trucks here in the winter with steep grades, then he would never have got stuck. Especially with that little bit of snow, ice under it or not. I live where we can get over a foot of snow overnight and still can drive around. I would also love to see that little land rover pull that fully loaded truck without the driver spinning his wheels in the truck too.

  • @andy49093 we dont get enough snow over here for chains and they would only ruin our crap roads even more one bit of road could be ice and snow the next bit could be very clear so chains are useless in these conditions you muppet!

  • good advert for land rover

  • It's amazing how you can get stuck on FLATground with that little snow...

  • @bliswasss Hi Blis, the road in question wasnt flat, it was on a slow long bend with an adverse

camber on it, that was the problem, the lorrys could get so far but the camber was beating them.

Think ice was under a layer of snow, road not gritted. However, I do agree with you, flat surfaces

are also, a nightmare in conditions like these. Happy driving!! Chrissie x

  • It's amazing how you can get stuck on FLATground with that little snow...

  • good job

  • disco is determined!

  • that things gonna need a new tranny. the steel was probably 1 ton alone.

  • @TheDarthEmperor I should think it is more like 30 plus with the trailer and tractor unit

  • thats very impressive. I thought that it was a nogo. but it wasn't. nice job... and safe driving

  • wow... amazing. dont think my mercedes can do that lol but who knows :o

  • I had to do that in my landrover series 3 :) up hill aswell might i add

  • Recaluk82

What is that all about? Where did I put my strap for towing, this in the vid is not me. someone elses credit not mine. Oh and don't get offended about the four track thing, I didn't even slate the vehicle. Just some folk get a little jelouse that's all I was stating. This discovery has done really really well. I was merly explaining a fact, that land rover are the best 4x4 by far. You only have to look this info up on the net it's all there.

  • am can you say COMMERCIAL!!!!!!!

  • Thats why they are "The best 4x4xfar"

  • thats why i will only have landrovers got a disco1 and a td5 just putting a 300tdi into my 90 and they all do anything asked of them good job with the vid mate next time i see an artic struggling mite even give it ago myself ha ha ha

  • @martinandsadie Hiya Martin, I think you should definately give it a go!!!

Have fun - regards - chrissie

  • and thats why people buy landrovers .

  • landy ftw :)

  • Who slated the Fourtrak??? Landybandy1.............It has the same towing capacity as a Disco of 3.5tonne anyways...it may not be as heavy but they are VERY capable vehicles with there bulletpoof 2.8 Litre Diesel engines.......plenty of pulling power.

Would also love to know where you attached the recovery strap on your Disco?

  • @recallUK82 disco has a tow limit of 3.5 tonne?...guess you never saw the press release for the discovery in 1989 then..they pulled a combined 157 tonnes of train from a siding to the platform, the only conversion was a set of track follower wheels.

i have used my disco(1989 200tdi) to pull artics, cars, vans even other non landy type four wheel drives and never once as it failed to do the job required ;)

tow strap will be on the tow bar or towing eyes on the chassie.

  • this will soon be happening here as the snow is back fuck yas!

  • Maurice & Spencer. Tough guys. Thanks Lads.

  • Suprising how jelouse some folk are about land rovers doing well. Oh and your fourtrack probably can tow them both in that snow/ice, but coming down the other way pal. Jog on and go and buy yourself a land rover If you can afford one. Otherwise put up and shut up landys are awsome, BEST IN THE WORLD.

  • there was no way he was giving up,tell him not to sell the rover as one careful owner eh

  • My fourtrak would pull both those together lol

  • @redfourtrack In your dreams

  • Bloody sweet! The whole essence of owning a landy!! :)

  • got to love land rovers, glad i have my own disco 1 sitting out side waiting for me,nice one

  • It's a pity the trucker didn't have a lift axle on the trailer as well.

  • the video is really about the fact this guy was kind enough to help out...

  • Yeah go Landy!!!

  • wtf?? no way lol.

  • i really want a car like dat... does anyone know how much they cost?

  • @kayu38 not much - look for LAND ROVER - Discovery

  • yeah! check out the mighty disco!

  • woohoooo!!! i love Land Rover!!! they are little tractors. all you needed was a set of chains and you would have towed this thing across the field. mine has gone where the snowplows wouldn't tackle the hills of St. John's, Newfoundland.

  • little land rover?! the discovery is one of the best off road vehicles of ALLTIME!!!

  • that thing couldnt pull that truck and all on that road even if it was dry. as someone said all it did was help the truck get some traction but still pretty decent

  • @thef250rednek thats where your wrong. iv seen a 300 tdi disco pull a FULLY loaded articulated tipper up a steeper hill than that, but not in the snow. and very slowly in low 1st

  • i cant believe that lil fucker puller that truck lol

  • Lonegunman69@ jeeps suck dick

  • Jeeps and Land Rovers are the best off road vehicles of all time. Fact.

  • Best 4 by 4 by far!

  • Certainly not that impressive. All the Land Rover did was add a little extra traction to the larger truck's spinning tyres (tires), not actually pull the load of that truck alone. In other words, the equivalent of one or two people pushing a much heavier car stuck in snow or mud. Any SUV or 4x4 could have done the same, in either case.

  • Great job...LR for life...

  • NICE!!!!

  • its a foden so its not the ice thats the problem "its the hill"

  • go canada

  • Yep u can,t fault them i have had numerous 'Disco,s' and they are that good, superb workhorses, p over the more modern crap!!

  • No discovery series is crap!!! Old or New

  • Rovers need a little more rep. Cause this is pretty crazy.

  • smiles, i am an ordinary person, without editing skills or the technology to CGI stuff, my sons and I went out in the snow we caught this moment on a little digital camera, the ice was so thick with snow on top this road which has an adverse camber on it, its a local road & NEVER gritted. It was entertaining to watch but Im afraid, its not, as you put it, false. I was in the right place, at the right time. . Safe driving DJ. Regards - chrissie.

  • @chrissie117 These Discoveries are more ballsy than most people think. I am a die hard big Chevy pickup owner, but these LR's are very off-road capable and quite ballsy. If I ever owned another vehicle besides a pickup truck, it would be a land rover

  • this is why the police use landrovers because they can pull 30-40 ton no problem my dad pulled an actic out of a snow drift with a series 2 and that only has a 2/2.5 litre engine

  • @spliffthedog Oh come on dude, you really believe that small little engine and vehicle is actually PULLING that thing? it's prolly just taking the edge off enough to help the truck get some momentum

  • did you not read my comment i have seen them doing this sort of stuff many times you should check out landrover themselves they demonstrate a defender pulling arctics with no driver on gravel

  • False

  • seriously these landrovers are so well engineered you can put them in anti stall and they will drag anything!

  • that "little" engine is very capable of doing things you don't think of. and if you dont believe its pulling it just look at how the disco slides and the tires spin if the truck was helping the disco im sure the disco wouldnt be sliding over the place

  • @djtechsupport its not false. with the rover v8 and snow tires you can do that

  • @djtechsupport don't be an arsehole, this is clearly taken from a cheap camera and the footage speaks for itself, the extra power stops the truck sliding back and when it throttles it moves up

  • That's gonna do a great deal for shocks on the landrover isn't it. People worry about them towing little trailers. So a wagon weighing 18+ tonnes is gonna do a lot of good for that landrover.

  • fake the trucks wheels dont spin once and that landy wouldnt have enough traction to pull it up there by itself

  • This just gives testament to how tough a Land Rover is!!!!!! That was awesome!

  • Is the motor in the blue truck shut down? He doesn't seem to be helping a bit.

  • gotta get some studded tires and u will b fine =]

  • The driver of the Land Rover is our friend Mark...he loves this kind of weather and has helped so many people when they have got stuck in the snow! We borrowed his Land Rover for 6 months after he did this and my husband didn't want to give him it back!! A true convert!!

  • @heartcrystal68 yup, thats mark, doing his thang. Total Hero.

  • @chrissie117 good for him. he's a Landy lover sharing his toy.

  • lol and it looks like the truck driver is not helping in any way..... nice

  • gotta love those discos. when not on snow, a disco WILL pull an artic as dead weight, having the low ratio transfer box is why

  • every bit helps :D

  • so.. where are you pulling him to? lol

  • Fantastic...on road tyres as well...lol

  • nice vid i have a 4.0 litre v8 wouldn't be without it

  • awsome video i did this last night in my 300tdi discovery in caerwys north wales lol the lorry driver didnt even say thank you prob embarresed hahaha

  • Christ you guys are boring, just say 'wow'

  • IF fully loaded the truck will weigh in at about 40 tons. True the Disco may well not have been pulling in the normal sense but it certainly helped the truck to move. Note the truck jump when the Disco snatches the line? Land Rover's are rated as capable of moving 12 tons anyway. And they're ON RECORD as having held a 200 ton ab. load in North East England. Don't ever misjudge what a Rover is capable of!!!

  • You do realize that he wasn't "pulling" that truck, right? I mean, yes, he was pulling it a little bit, but it's not like he was pulling the truck like it was dead weight. He was just providing enough of a pull to allow the truck to get enough traction to propel itself on the slippery road. Still, pretty cool video.

  • @EvenSteven2004 Very well said.

  • is the disco petrol or diesel? good work!!

  • what a work horse!! verry very good id love to see a jeep do that, now that would be something to laugh at!

  • go go gadget disco !

  • i pulled a transit pick up with a burntout clutch up a snowy hill with my disco auto, quite easily after the owner of the company tried and tried with his new shogun and he had better tyres and all his little lights on! im not saying the disco is a nicer car but when it really counts it IS

  • @somote68

lol wtf is a disco?.......never heard of shogun either?

  • "disco" is a nickname for a Land Rover Discovery (the car pulling the big truck in the video above). A shogun is a Mitsubishi 4x4 (called something like Pajero in other markets - shogun is the name in the UK)

  • @weffew

    oh ok.

i have heard of land rover but never heard it called that before.

mitsubishi made a few pickup trucks to that they discontinued i think they called it the maxx truck in the u.s. lol they make better sports cars than trucks imho.

  • "disco" is i suppose short for discovery as in land rover discovery, shogun is a misubishi shogun (girlie 4x4)

  • Nice.

  • I was sitting on pins and needles cheering on the little rover .

What does the rover weigh anyone ?

I was thoughly impressed .3/5 for the rover .

  • discos are around 2 tons, they are meant to have a 3.5ton tow limit in the uk.......although thats the limit on paper lol. they can manage a few pounds more weight.....if you need it

  • Rover was rescue blue truck now Rover say: next please (white truck) :D

  • lol!!! thats a big 10-4 white truck, awaiting snow coming from wales and I will be out there again with a news update, till then its a big T-U (thumbs up) - over and out - 117.

  • daaaaammmmmm thats hot

  • Bet guy in truck was thinkin WTF???

    gettin my 06 defender soon,

    Go landie power

  • diamond vid, have got 300tdi disco, freelander2 and have orderd discovery4

  • lr's are amaaaazing :)

  • cool video...and the song is?

  • unfortunately dont know what the music is, matched it up with a youtube option, works bloody well too!!

  • My old defender has done that - ok, not a big truck, but has saved a few cars that were stuck. I also once pulled a fallen tree off the road (well, my landie did, not me)

  • landrover's power!

  • looks like it has highway tyres too

  • isnt that extra wheel in the air on that truck another drive wheel for situations like this. correct me if im wrong but im sure thats what its for and they pull them up in the air when its not needed to save on fuel.

  • no its just a extra lift axle, its used for to put the w8 per axel down, if you got a heavy lood, they use it on the road, but now its up to get extra w8 on the rear tire's to get more grip

sorry for my bad english (A) hope you get it on some point :Phaha

  • no thats an extra axle to help take the weight of heavy loads, lifting it up transfers all the weight to the drive wheels

  • so in the case where his drive wheels needed more traction and if he were to put more weight on the drive wheels which may or may not create traction but he could have tried =P

  • Flipster1325, That extra wheel is a tag axle and isn't driven. It's only used when the total weight exceeds 38Ton, then whith the axle down the total weight can be 44Ton. You are correct that they save fuel though as when they are lifted up they lower the rolling resistance. HTH

  • Fantastic. I remember seeing the americans doing it.

I hopeing this winter when i get my Disco That I can help a lorry that is stuck and get pictures of it and a video.

The satasfaction would be so good

    Fantastic video 10/10

  • Up a slant. Nice!

  • i too saw this in lrm mag i think it was and just had to check it out! top stuff! this is just testament as to how good landys - any landys - are. the best 4x4xfar as it was said! as for anyone who thinks land rovers are crap, theyre one of three things - jealous, naive, or very, very thick.

  • Wow i heard of this youtube clip in a landrover magazine and i couldent belive that a landrover could pull a truck, well looks like im wrong lol

i have 2 land rover discoverys one red and on green we go offroading in them xD

  • Hi amy, glad you have fun in your discoverys - this was a fantastic thing to watch and it still amazes me to this day that he pulled that truck up the hill on all that ice.

  • your car eats breakfast & dinner??

    Mine just uses diesel. :-]

  • my 7.3 td v8 diesel eats discos for brakefast and shoguns for dinner

  • My diesel Disco is a Torque monster... Great video. Thanks.

Check out some of my vids - but be nice!!!!

  • The trucks only a single axle. Wouldn't surprise me if it had trouble going up that hill.

  • this vid shows that a landrover can do anything!:D

  • Lets face it all the landrover is doing is sat there spinning it's wheels. The truck is taking and moving all the weight and would get up there on it's own at around the same pace as it slowly eats throught the snow. Lorrys aint as bad as some make out in the snow. Mine didnt get stuck once over the snowy period up and down the wreking

  • i dint belive it

  • Emmm SP - try telling all owners of Land Rovers they rarely complete what they started. Believe me - he succeeded. You are allowed to think that LR's are crap - just dont think you will be in the majority of thinking on that one!!!

  • Show the entire video tas proof hat he got him up the rest of that hill.

  • WOW!!!

  • I remember watching a Police Land Rover pushing an articulated lorry off the motorway in snow - the lorry was on it's side!!!

  • it dont surprise me. they will pull anything. best by far. Mind the legal towing weight for a Disco is 3.5 tonnes lol

    byeeeeee!

  • i once towed a similar load out of muck with a 3.5 ton cantor the drive shaft broke off the next days oops

  • Excellent video but perhaps the most annoying commentary ever.

  • viva De Land Rovers huh!!

  • eh try 'landrover' not 'jeep' but other thn tht...

aye discos can pull almost anything
