  • riht?

  • Saw them in '78. Can't go back . Its fading into the hazy past. The best, most exciting, fun, SCARY, wild, sweaty, cool, urgent, spine tingling, mindblowing gig I ever went to. I was 16.

  • @MrAmazingHumanist Best there ever was/been!!

  • @MrAmazingHumanist I was 21 - what a great time!!!!

  • i was born in 95 so unfortunately didnt get to witness the clash in all their glory. But their still my favourite band ever and i love joe! if i had one wish it would be to live in the 70s and 80s and experience the madness

  • So much energy on stage,

  • Damn, it must have been hell to make a decision like that to abandon your band and go into unknown territory....

  • saw em about 1982 or 83 at the Ex with Black Uhuru + Burning Spear opening*

    Amazing Concert + amazing Band*************

    Great Footage here********

  • CLASH THE BEST

    FUCK THE REST!

  • stuff the jubilee!

  • 3 great songs and 3 interviews (or rather questions) in 7 minutes. this is why i love punk!

  • the only band that matter.

  • THIS IS THE BEST FUCKING BAND

  • the punk years were a bit promiscuous at least none of them fucked Nico or Lulu...

  • old jaded people?...that's hilarious

bloody hell I miss the Uk. but I digress...The Clash-brilliant!

  • And, Thank You very much for posting this

  • Well, my friend,......like the Arctic Monkeys. I was there listening to this music at it's inception. And since, it has been my favorite genre. So much great music has come from these individuals jamming on this video. It is the best! And, when I first heard The Arctic Monkeys,....I felt the same energy. The influence of the Clash does live on............

  • listen to all you old jaded people! there is movements in music happening just under your noses

  • Like what?

  • your watching three young men getting ready to take on the world. . .four with topper. . .and didn't they. . .wish it could happen all over again. . .everything since has been stale and manafactured. . .

  • the best "B" side ever released 1977. and this is just about the best version of it iv'e seen. thanks for putting this on augek. this is the clash on top of their game.

  • I love Joe at the bit from 2.48. it is ironic. He was on top form that day.

  • I WANT MICK'S SHIRT!!!!!!

  • Joe "I wouldn't steal money from a friend. .. But I'd steal his girlfriend." Best line ever. I love The Clash.

    RIP Joe

  • funny part is joe rode toppers bird on tour b4!

  • yup. topper took her on tour and they got into a fight and he told her she couldn't stay in his room so she stayed in joe's

  • i see you've seen the future is unwritten dvd too hahaha

  • yup. i had just watched the strummer documentary on Independent Film Channel, here in the states, right before i watched this clip. good call. but yeah, i knew that legendary story before seeing the doc, of course. i'm sure you've seen RUDE BOY...

  • yeh i have rude boy on dvd. the future is unwritten, the essential clash, the westway to the world and the clash live in tokyo! hahaha

  • I love the Clash

The main attribute they had that no other bands at the time had was luck.

Paul simonon wasn't suppose to audition for them , he was just there for the his mate, they had the lucks, the time and the inspiration of the city, lucky gets haha, so ignore "foratin 1" coz these guys changed the world more than Thatcher, Bush or Brown ever will

  • you watch this,

then watch "punk" bands like Greenday and Rancid,

    and you think

WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG

    legends

    RIP Joe

  • true!!!

christ i wish i was a teenager in the seventies

  • i say that every day of my life and wish it every second of every minute. so many great things happening all at once. and nuthin happening now. sad isn't it?

  • extremly!!! close to depressing when you hear some of the shit coming out these days

  • whats wrong with rancid?

  • oh dear young man. you'll die a fool.

  • you should go back and listen to your greenday and my chemical romance

leave the real music up to these geniuses

  • Comment removed

  • love you mick

  • sorry, for foratin1 below.

  • its the partisans man not the parisians!

and yeh the partisans are fucking lethal too!

  • Love to play pool with these guys

  • Tard.

  • if you don't like it why you watching. not the first time i've seen one of your dumb ass comments. it's you thats the bullshitter.

  • your a fucking idiot. if you knew anything about joe you wuld know he hates his backround and distanced himself from all that shit and lived in nearly poverty. wanker!

  • well they've done more for music and the world than you have so why dont you just shut the fuck up being a retard and stop commenting on clash videos because you're jealous of them!

  • i dunno why dont you just look int he mirrior because you just completely described yourself. sitting there bullshitting behind your computer. that's fairly cowardly.

who's bandwaggon did they jump on eh? the sex pistols? get real mate! you're an idiot!

  • The bandwagon they jumped on was the Sex Pistols. "Joe Strummer" himself said that on more than one occasion and in plain English.

Now - you have a different opinion and obviously think that you know better than Joe. Or are you gonna try and say that he never said that?.

You called someone an idiot . . . would you like to re-read and address the bullshit you wrote above and perhaps rethink that?

    Welcome to planet Earth.

  • joe said he was blown away by the sex pistols. the clash are absolutely nothing like the pistols musically or lyrically at all.

so yes your are just a sad bitter little autistic retard with a dick up his ass!

you're patethic and have no real clue about what you're talking about you're just trying to get attention and seem intelligent!

but ic ans ee right through your faggott comments and yor faggott self!

  • woah, you really don't like the clash!

    what's that about lol?

  • edjs567 - I refer you to my previous comments. It's there in plain English.

  • All that phoney beatlemania has bitten the dust

  • CAN someone explain the lyric "no elvis, beatles or the rolling stones". Is it meant to be an insult ? Or a statement about the lack of talent in the year 1977 ?

  • Not an insult-they are saying that theyr'e not there to be nostalgic or pay tribute to the past."This is the NEW rock, the 50's and 60's are over."

  • yess the clash....

  • His mighty ... JOE STRUMMER at his BEST ...

  • apparently paul simonon painted that back drop, it looks soo wiked

  • i think its just a blown up version of the photo on the inlay sleeve of the UK album

  • yeye man it is which paul painted while working on the album it looks soo good haha

  • naw, it was a photo of the police attacking people during the race riots.

  • ye..and THEN paul painted tht backdrop of the photo haha

  • Best band I ever saw. Pissed on the Beatles and the Stones.

  • fuck me, listen to those belting drums, micks low fi guitar , joes raw guit, and pauls thumping bass, this is what made them the best group EVER! R.i.p joe

  • Talk about "flash backs"....Amazing!!!!

  • Awesome! Thank you so much. God Bless the CLASH. God Bless Joe Strummer!

  • Powerful band, The Clash forever!!!

  • All the power's in the hands

Of people rich enough to buy it

    While we walk the street

Too chicken to even try it

  • Don't be a fucking dick head. If anything The Clash were anti-capitalism, dont comment on a band you dont know about. just listen to the words of any of their songs.

  • BEST BAND EVER!!!

  • Best band ever.... I wish I were at one of their show... ♥

  • i was, i actually saw them five times, stockholm 78, 83, gothenburg 79, 80 and the roskilde festival 85 (i hope i got the years right, kinda blurry those days =)

  • this rock!!!!!!!!

  • ya can see from this clip where the manics got their early inspiration from. the video for "you love us" looks very similar to this. the clash are awesome

  • Every song that the Clash ever wrote is just as relevent or even more relevent today. Especially Clampdown

  • no elvis, beatles or the rolling stones!!

  • on a desert island with all the clash and jam albums i would be like a pig in shite

  • i know it's a really obvious song but i still think white riot is their best song. I've never heard a song yet with so much energy and passion

  • shit am gonna bring back old school punk with my band if your from la check us out next year ppl!!!

  • cheers mate

  • Miss you Joe...

  • 1977 is the best fuckin song in the world!

  • I wudn't steal from a friend but I'd steal his girlfriend lol brilliant from joe. R.I.P joe strummer

  • Funny thing, Joe slept with Topper's girlfriend back in the day. Apparrently, that added to Topper's heroin addiction.

  • yea your right

  • MARKETING STORY, GREAT!!! I LIKE IT!

  • 1976

  • Fucking great!!!! and whoever thinks the clash r emo then shove off u sad sods!!!!!!

  • lol u c how i said jk after that comment? lol

  • jk jk

  • the clash are not emo

  • Piss off

  • ur so tough

  • u are a fucking idiot

  • no'emo is an offshoot of i type of punk.how old are you?

  • I think its Topper because if you look at his setup, it's the same as it was in the Munich gigs. Also, this was filmed on April 26, 1977 (according to Last Gang in Town by Marcus Gray) and the addition of topper was made public in the April 30 issue of the Melody Maker.

  • its terry chimes topper wernt in the band at ths point

  • Its before topper because if you had read the "about this video" bit it says pre topper and cbs. What does cbs stand for by the way?

  • cbs is the label they were signed to in the autum of 1976

  • What do the initials CBS stand for is what I meant.

  • Very raw.

  • Ahh I am in love with this video. Thank you so much for uploading it!

  • is that Terry Chimes or Topper Headon on drums?

  • i'm pretty sure thats terry on drums

  • It's Terry. This is pre-Topper.

  • no, it's Topper.

  • -THE CLASH-

    The Only Band That Matters

  • fuckin eh

  • Absolutely brilliant thanks for posting. Love the clash but joe gets his verses mixed up on londons burning. He sings the second verse first and the first verse second.

  • he did that quite regularly when they played live. it was by design not accident. it was so he just was'nt going through the motions, like a robot.

  • R.I.P joe

  • "i wouldn't steal money off of a friend"

    "but i'd steal his girlfriend"

    ha ha!

  • my all time fav band truely one of the greatest rock bands of all time

  • Best band ever! RIP Joe Strummer

  • definitive filmed versions.

  • Best band ever!

  • this is amazing, thanks for posting

  • the fist song is not London's Burning, the second song is White Riot though.

  • no, but the last one is and the first is 1977 followed by the second tune which is white riot, those things inbetween are interviews.

  • I had a wonderful girlfriend in the late-80s who introduced me to punk music, especially the music of The Clash. I have many fond memories of those times. The Clash remains one of my all-time favorite groups.

  • joe strummer - english hero. RIP joe.

  • Vintage footage from one of the most exciting bands in the history of music. Just read Chris Salewicz's biography of Joe Strummer. Well worth reading.

  • love micks giutar tone and that was before he got his boogie amp .was that tony parsons with them there??

  • Amazing quality!! thanks. RIP Joe

  • God do I LOVE this band! That was awesome. Thanks for posting it. Every young new band should be sat down and made to watch this video to see how it's done! Joe is a riot!

  • Joe did steal a mate's girlfriend! He stoll Don Lett's girl from him, so i read in his Bio.

  • All three tracks are awesome with some good interview footage, I love the Clash.

  • Mick says "Right" a lot. These cats rock.

  • Great! Mick's guitar sounds great! What a band!

  • the first song was 1977 the b-side to white riot

  • i ment the first song is not london's burning, and the second one is white riot.

  • that's not london's burning or white riot!

  • JOE!!!! Oh man *wipes tear*

  • Their energy is just incredible! Miss you JOE!

  • they rock, and play pool!... why did i have to be born in the wrong decade?

  • Joe would steal a friends girlfriend.lol.

  • What a Band!! Brings it all back. 'sniff'

  • Great Video, especially since they were often banned from performing and couldn't get venues to book them.
