Saw them in '78. Can't go back . Its fading into the hazy past. The best, most exciting, fun, SCARY, wild, sweaty, cool, urgent, spine tingling, mindblowing gig I ever went to. I was 16.
i was born in 95 so unfortunately didnt get to witness the clash in all their glory. But their still my favourite band ever and i love joe! if i had one wish it would be to live in the 70s and 80s and experience the madness
Well, my friend,......like the Arctic Monkeys. I was there listening to this music at it's inception. And since, it has been my favorite genre. So much great music has come from these individuals jamming on this video. It is the best! And, when I first heard The Arctic Monkeys,....I felt the same energy. The influence of the Clash does live on............
your watching three young men getting ready to take on the world. . .four with topper. . .and didn't they. . .wish it could happen all over again. . .everything since has been stale and manafactured. . .
the best "B" side ever released 1977. and this is just about the best version of it iv'e seen. thanks for putting this on augek. this is the clash on top of their game.
yup. i had just watched the strummer documentary on Independent Film Channel, here in the states, right before i watched this clip. good call. but yeah, i knew that legendary story before seeing the doc, of course. i'm sure you've seen RUDE BOY...
The main attribute they had that no other bands at the time had was luck.
Paul simonon wasn't suppose to audition for them , he was just there for the his mate, they had the lucks, the time and the inspiration of the city, lucky gets haha, so ignore "foratin 1" coz these guys changed the world more than Thatcher, Bush or Brown ever will
i say that every day of my life and wish it every second of every minute. so many great things happening all at once. and nuthin happening now. sad isn't it?
People are actually taken in by The Clash. But many do seem to prefer their "revolution" fake, convenient, platitude-ridden and (in the case of The Clash) utterly safe and meaningless.
"Hey! Listen to this amazing upper middle-clarse Private School toff desperately pretending to be "street" and screaming empty slogans into the void from his own fantasy world, false self-image and easy feel-good factor".
Something real was hijacked and castrated by an English Middle Class bullshitter - again.
your a fucking idiot. if you knew anything about joe you wuld know he hates his backround and distanced himself from all that shit and lived in nearly poverty. wanker!

If you knew anything you'd see that "Joe" was a person desperately trying to "slum it". This, to anyone with their feet on the ground, is more of the sadly predictable phenomenon of the very English & very private school class trying to be for real, being taken up and pushed by the establishment media and scuppering the very people they're trying to emulate.
Emulating reality is not reality.
You may have noticed that the Clash made ineffective and platitude-ridden bullshit their entire career.
well they've done more for music and the world than you have so why dont you just shut the fuck up being a retard and stop commenting on clash videos because you're jealous of them!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
They did nothing for music - they jumped on someone else's bandwagon at first and then did third-rate impressions of other styles. Fact. Sorry. Welcome to reality.
They did less than zero for the world. If you consider being safe, tame, utterly ineffective and cheap bubblegum "revolution" to be doing something for "the world" then you're a typical Clash fan - head up your arse and terrified of anything which is ACTUALLY for real. You're a bullshitter and a coward.
i dunno why dont you just look int he mirrior because you just completely described yourself. sitting there bullshitting behind your computer. that's fairly cowardly.
who's bandwaggon did they jump on eh? the sex pistols? get real mate! you're an idiot!
CAN someone explain the lyric "no elvis, beatles or the rolling stones". Is it meant to be an insult ? Or a statement about the lack of talent in the year 1977 ?
fuck me, listen to those belting drums, micks low fi guitar , joes raw guit, and pauls thumping bass, this is what made them the best group EVER! R.i.p joe

The bandwagon they jumped on was the Sex Pistols. "Joe Strummer" himself said that on more than one occasion and in plain English.
Now - you have a different opinion and obviously think that you know better than Joe. Or are you gonna try and say that he never said that?.
You called someone an idiot . . . would you like to re-read and address the bullshit you wrote above and perhaps rethink that?
Welcome to planet Earth.
