If your ammo is 15 years old your weapon is no longer what I would classify as "reliable." You simply MUST replace your combat / defense loads every couple of years. Moisture, heat, condensation, even GUN OIL can destroy powder and primers.
Go to the range and shoot all your old ammo and buy new. And with the new stuff, buy a box and shoot 1/2 of it and if you get ZERO problems, keep the rest for "use" rounds. If you get even ONE bad or misfeeding round, dump it all and try again.
A buddy wants to trade an all weather lower blued upper MKVI for my modified Saiga 12 shotgun. Thanks for this video I had no idea about this fine gun. Im having a hard time determining value though.
Awesome gun! Its nice to see that there are still some Detonics floating around out there. I have a Combat Master MK VII that was my fathers carry pistol for about 22 years. He recently handed it down to me and I have always admired those pistols. Take care of it...there arent many out there!
Yesteday i had a chance of getting to know this pistol, and i am really impressed, specifically on the one shown in this video. i am from the marines in the dominican republic, but unfurtunatelly in my country it is very hard to find specific accesories likes the ones you have. can you tell me my the brands of the accesories shown and where can i get them.
i am interested in: the hammer, the tang, the extended slide realease, ambidextrial safety the trigger, & extended magazine. thanks
Detonics never ever built any government contract guns. The old CIA MKVII gun urban legend will just never die I guess. This little myth was probably promoted by sales personnel wanting to get buyers to jump on the gun the CIA uses. The real story is that it was designed by Van Blaricom who was the Chief of Police in the City of Bellevue, Washingtom. Blaricom was a personal friend of Sid Woodcock. You can see the complete story if you go to the Facebook Detonics Handguns page.
Attention ! -Most people on this Earth believe that Detonics = Airsoft.
Wrong ! .....- Folks, Human Beings.....
Detonics are Real Firearms, That, through their reputation for unerring combat excellence, have captured the imaginations of the entire World's Media-Combat-Enthusiasts.
Perhaps, There is No Cooler Handgun than the Detonics CombatMaster.
@John234pwns there is a recess cut into the tang that allows the hammer to extend into it. a reverse profile of the loop hammer.. The hammer doesnt touch any metal - it may not have been noticable in the video..
Good point. @ 1:44 This is NOT a 1911. It is an all original design. Maybe someone will buy the "Detonics" name and start up production one day. For now a worthwhile collector's item. Was this pistol made for "condition two" (hammer down over a live round) carry? 1:59
@biagrauser Looks are deceiving. This is NOT a 1911 as most of the parts are not interchangeable and it lacks such 1911 features as a grip safety and a barrel bushing. It turns out the Detonics was made for "thumb cocking". Detonics was resurrected as Detonics USA. I have not seen the "new" models and cannot comment as to the quality.
@faffaflunkie What are you saying? If you disable a Colt 1911 grip safety and put in a bushing-less barrel it is no longer a 1911? Funny Jeff Cooper considered it a 1911... But what did he know? Btw Most parts "are" interchangeable if you just do a parts count. Not that this is a valid argument. It is a model 1911 design pistol.
@biagrauser No. The Detonics was a new and original design. Of course the Colt 1911 patents had expired decades before the Detonics-so the designers were free to copy anything that they liked, and they (the designers) of the Detonics pistol wisely used the trigger and sear from the 1911-but the rest of the pistol is different including a novel recoil spring. As for Col. Cooper he also liked the Spanish Star, which operates just like the 1911 but shares none of the parts.
@faffaflunkie I'm going to give it one more shot... Of the 43 parts that make up the Detonics pistol 7 of them are unique to Detonics and 4 of those consist of the spring system... So "most" parts "are" interchangeable. Which is not even a good guide as to what is and what is not a 1911 designed pistol. You really need to look at the how the pistol fires and cycles for that.
@biagrauser Well the slide, barrel and frame are certainly not interchangeable. All the parts for the original Detonics pistol were made in the Detonics factory. No Colt or second sourced 1911 parts were used. The Detonics design simply used the best of the Colt design and reinvented the rest, including a bushless self centering barrel. I should ask you if you consider the Star PD a 1911, as it handles and operates in the same way. Of course a Colt Officer is a 1911 as it is just a chopped gun.
@faffaflunkie You obviously know very little about the Detonics pistol. All the parts were NOT made by Detonics. In fact the originals were nothing more than altered full size 1911 parts... Last post for me on this subject.....
@biagrauser Well then I will get the last word. When the gun (the Detonics) was in full production they (the old Detonics Co.) manufactured ALL the guns parts in it's Bellevue, WA factory. You may be referring to early prototype pistols manufactured before an infusion of capital into the company. I do not know how the "new" Detonics Co. manufactures it's pistols or what second sourced parts they may or may not used. Note the Detonics was expensive and the original Detonics went "belly up".
@faffaflunkie I'm not going to dispute your claim even though it is entirely F-A-L-S-E FALSE...... Anyone wanting to know the "truth" about Detonics should go to the Yahoo Detonics Collectors group or biggerhammerdotcom. I'm certainly no the last word on all things Detonics. If you google "detonics stuff" you will find my web site which has the links, about 2/3 down the page, to many helpful sites. Sorry I lied... This is my last post... ;-)
@biagrauser These sites in no way tell you the source of the parts. Remember Detonics was the first to market a STAINLESS STEEL auto in .45 Cal (the first "full size" .45 in stainless wasn't produced until a few years later). If they did not produce their own parts this (the production of the worlds first stainless steel .45) would be impossible. Now look at the firearm in the video. Do you see any parts marked "Colt"? Even the magazine-which at first seems identical-is unique to the Detonics.
thats old ammo .. of course its best u dont have to use ur defense ammo anyway. im about to trade my friend my glock 17 streight across for his combat master
Thats a pretty pistol there hwoods01!!! I normally dont like really shiny guns, but that ones so polished you could use that slide to see around a corner behind cover. Now you just need to make a video of it at the range!
@Slidewinder1337 I once had a series 80 Colt commander from Colt's custom shop with adj trigger, adj. sights, hammer, tang, throated ect.. but it was stolen out of my truck 15 years or so ago.. this is my only good 1911 left. ;) Insurance paid for the Commander
I intend to have one of these as my first pistol when I move to the US in July. Any tips on the pistol would be appreciated. Any chance of you posting a video of its performance on the range?
@hwoods01 No firearms period. Farmers are permitted to have their shotguns but again we're talking standard fare. Got my ideas for what to have when I move but will have to try a few out. SIG P226, H&K USP compact ot a Glock 17 are the others I'm considering though the Glock has become a little too commonplace IMO.
@ge0rd1e Whoa.. non period... Then I expect that you'll go into 'system overload' when you get into a gun shop here.. Kinda similar to a kid being turned loose in a candy store.. Picking a person sidearm is a tough call; the best solution is to buy one of each! ;)
I am waiting on delivery of a 'special' firearm that I have orded some time ago.. Once I get it (when that will happen is still unclear) Then I'll post some more stuff... Thax for the comment!
It is not. The factory Detonics Combat Masters did NOT have any type of tang on the grip safety - in fact, they did not even have an active grip safety like full-size 1911s did.
If your ammo is 15 years old your weapon is no longer what I would classify as "reliable." You simply MUST replace your combat / defense loads every couple of years. Moisture, heat, condensation, even GUN OIL can destroy powder and primers.
