@performancegroup310 Like I said, this was my 3rd time ever sparring. I would like to see how awesome you were your first few times. At least give constructive criticism instead of saying, "that was crap."
By the way, I saw the video you uploaded about your 1994 Chevy pickup truck - "You should go to Cerritos Auto Square and get a real vehicle. That truck is crap." LOL
I know this was 2 yrs ago but im not sure if you changed this:
When you throw your punches you retreat kinda straight back, vs good counter punchers this can eventually get you knocked out or tagged a lot. so switch it up never do the same retreat or faint (it happened to me a lot). Also learn to dip your head inside/under to be able to stay in range. watch some Juan Manuel Marquez fights and you will see what i mean
For your first time, that was excellent. I just don't know why at around 1:49 you switched to southpaw. Master your natural stance first, then start trying advanced stuff like that. However, as this was posted over a year ago, so that may be exactly what you have already done.
Try to be more loose. I know there's been a while sence you uploaded the vid, maybe throw some more bodypunches and start of with a jab. Otherwise it seems pretty good, I remember my first sparring it was with my friend and I got so beaten up it was scarry. haha So nice work, keep it up and don't listen to these fuckers who just say things like "you suck" they've probably never even been in a ring. Peace
Yea dude dont listen to people that tell u go hard when u spar and try to knock ur opponent out. Sparring is used to work on everything u have practiced and to learn. Keep ur hands on cheek level u have them sticking out in front of u. Also more head movement and more footwork. When u jab take a step with ur left foot and throw the jab at the same time u step. Ur lucky ur sparring a newbie because when i started i had to spar with the good ones lol.
HAHA my first time sparring it was a guy that reminds me of a 130lbs(same as me) Andre berto, that is like a Manny pacquiao, amatuer, orthadox version if you know what I am talking about
Also, I feel NO SHAME in falling down at sparring because its a learning system and MIKE TYSON fell in sparring before don't believe me look it up on youtube.
And at sparring its only your teammates but in a match its your family, friends, and others.
Don't listen to these knobs telling you to fight hard when you're first starting out. Take goals with you into sparring sessions and work on them at your own pace like today I'm going to try to slip some jabs and counter, etc. What's the point of having panicky throw downs with a sparring partner when A) you're members of the same gym and should be friends and B) unless you got your technique down it's gonna go out the window when the adrenaline kicks in and you'll be throwing arm punches
It was my first time sparring. I was looking for a constructive criticism, but you sound like and idiot. Look at this guy's profile: Name: eric Age: 24 JUST PM ME City: L.A Hometown: hollywood hillz Country: United States Companies: qdent. Interests and Hobbies: BOXING,BASKETBALL,BIKES,CARS,MAKING BEATZ,GOING OUT,AND CLUB HOPPIN Movies and Shows: HBO Boxing Music: RAP,HIP HOP,classical, AND mixes Books: BOOKS R 4 GEEKS AND NERDS I STICK TO READING ARTICLES AND MAGZ AND MAYBE PLAYING XBOX 360
In a tough gym, and by that I mean a good one, often the only rule during sparring is that if you have someone hurt, meaning their knees buckle or they're clearly on the verge of being knocked out, you don't finish them. That means you're allowed and encouraged to try to kill them, you just need to slow up if you seem to be succeeding.
Your habits and tendencies while sparring will transfer over to what you do in a real amateur or pro bout. You are using the footwork, combinations, stamina, defensive skills, and thought process you worked on during training to effectively BEAT YOUR OPPONENT. SO BEAT HIM. Your not gonna kill the guy, a trainer will and should be there to stop the action if someone is taking a beating. But make sure you push yourself and your opponent to the limit. It will make you stronger and better.
I was told that WHENEVER I step in the ring....I need to make my opponent feel like he doesn't belong. If your not ready to take boxing that serious, then your in the wrong sport. STOP SWITCHING TO SOUTHPAW....you went lefty @ 1:48 and threw nothing but jabs. Until your ready to unleash combinations as a lefty don't switch. Stick to making that solid 1-2 of yours more devastating while in orthodox. Jloffa, Teambjj, Lakewiew, and Tragedy gave you good advice to follow.
So are you saying to go hard every time I spar? I thought that people who mastered boxing were able to vary intensity depending on their opponent and the purpose of the sparring session. Not that I could have varied my intensity because I was so freakin tired. I could be wrong. Maybe just different philosophies. I was told not to try to kill my sparring partner, I might need them again another time.
when i first sparred they threw me in with a local pro named guy kyle mcnutt its better to fight better people because you get used to them and when you fight ameture fighters you will do way better.
hey man dont spar with your fellow begginer at best try sparring with pro-fighter it will be more intense but it pays off you learn more and u learn it fast.
You're doing fine for just the third time in the ring. Just stick with it and work on your stance and all the rest will come with time and training. I hope that this was helpful to you. Keep up the good work.
Not bad for 3rd time sparring. Keep your chin down. Stop backing up from punches all the time, step in and slip them. Don't reach to block punches, let them come to you. Someone will fake, you'll reach, then they'll catch you. Also don't circle the same way(to the left) all the time. Good luck, you're on your way.
dude you did great for the few times sparring. i am actually going to come in and sign up

More combos, more movement, make him tire himself out, then attack. Other than that it was pretty good.
