@Jynxishh you have to spot your head. lock your eyes on something eye level (whether it be a spot on the wall or your own eyes in the mirror) and keep eye contact while you turn. your head is the last thing to whip around and the first thing to whip back. that will turn your body fully around. keep you eyes on your spot as long as possible, then whip it around.
@SafariGirls it helps if you prepare for a pirouette normally, then instead of spinning around just go up into relevé and hold it for as long as possible. This will hive you an idea of how long you can hold it, then try pirouettes(:
Whenever I do a pirouette I lose balance, and when I passe my foot doesn't tough my knee, while I turn. If I tough it I loose my balance completely.... Any advice?????
Halfway between my first and second pirouette, I lose balance and lean over. Any tips? Also, is there any specific shoes for turning? I'm using a sock xD
A sock is just fine, some use shoes, some use socks some use nothing..ness :) and about leaning over I'd suggest you to just make the preperation as in 2nd position > 4th position ( if a girl, or from 2nd if male) and then Raleve passe ( spelled it wrong but you understand ) and hold still , without turning , practice untill you stop falling and have full control :) good luck hope i helped
@Defyinghumanity i wasnt talking about her flexibility (which she probs sucks at too) but i just sed she cant even hold a releve so i bet she has a weak core
Well I used to do that and my teacher said it was because the main points if any turn are balance, strength, flexibility, turnout, and control. And when your doing a pirouette, try to think of pulling up and lifting your body and straighten and strengthen everything, also think of the tip of your head touching the ceiling. (: hop it helps
does the balanchine method require the arms to be so high that they reach the arm? cuz i was taught both the french and british way and i was never taught that
ok so to stay balanced you need to tighten your core and pull up as high as you can go like there is a string attached to your head and just keep practicing. it also helps to practice without turning and just pulling up while holding on to something to keep you steady. that is how i learned to when i was like 4 and now im 11 and im working on four pirouettes so you just have to keep working at it and training and it will eventually work out!!!!
how do you keep your balance with these things i seem to always fall foward......it's weird i can hold the posse postion but when i turn with it..everything goes down hill from there
I've only been doing jazz for 3 years and i cant rly do this turn. i can do a single one but i cant do a double or watever. when i try to do a double i always drop my heel bcuz im afraid that im going to fall
@ArielCaasi Nah. It's the same thing basically. Make sure ur preparation on forth is not too far apart, so u can get a really good plie & so ur in a really good center before popping up on your pointe to turn. First try prep once or twice, than make as if ur prepping but spot with that prep. After go ahead and use the arm for a little bit of momentum. I don't know if u get wat I'm tryna explain. Maybe I should make a video, neways hope this helps.
There's a whole lot more that goes into it. The arms for example, should be reaching forward. Almost as if ur hugging somebody. Neways I gave u a jist of it.
@G30rg1aPeaches thank you so much for these tips. yes, i totally understand wat u r saying, u dont need to make a video. thanks again, i'll be sure to try out these things. in fact, im goin to ballet soon, and i'll try it!!
It's all about finding a strong center. In my dance class, we hold the pirouette position for a few seconds to practice balance. Also, make sure all yourweight is on the foot you're turning on when you prep.
I had the same problem with my triples and it was because I leaned away from the turn. If you stay on it, you'll get around. :]
I just tried this, and almost cracked my head open on my dresser.........maybe dance isn't for me.....

yes dancers wear one shoe when they want to. This is because its just their turning foot and they dont need two to turn

make sure you get a good plie and that you position your arms as if they're holding a beach ball.
imflyyyyx3 2 years ago 2
my way of learning was by making sure ur in a really low plie and start off doing them slow and as you get it speed up.
