  • Probably one of the best renditions of this aria extant (along with Lucia Popp's 1982 studio recording): Chilcott's voice is incisive yet lyrical; it sails over the impervious tessitura astonishingly, with a prodigious incredible low register (cfr. "tempesta") and a rock solid top. Extraordinary.

  • So clean and beautiful!

  • incredible voice... the most impressionant soprano performing this difficult aria...

  • Brava !!!! I miss this Great Musician. Ecco un artista.

  • Certified Intergalactic! The best I've ever heard of "Come Scoglio". Susan Chilcott forever!

  • IN MEMORIAM. I miss her so much. What a greatful Fiordiligi.

  • oh I love when she sings 'tempesta', oh it's a fabulous performance!

  • This is really really good! It is hard to believe she is so young. The voice is very mature. I love how she moves the text on the breath. Fabulous!!!

  • Miss Chilcott was also a shatteringly magnificent Natasha Rostova in the ENO's production of Prokofiev's"War and Peace" with Keenlyside. It is heavy and great sorrow she lost her battle with cancer. May her soul rest in God's Peace and her voice ring through heaven.

  • is this available on dvd?

  • what a talent, what a loss,

  • not to Bel Mooney she ain't ;)

  • This is a text book performance. So controlled. What a loss.

  • uhm...too slow...and the voice sound too trumbling..

  • Wonderful! Thank you for posting this. I can't imagine a more beautiful and gutsy "Come Scoglio."

  • what a production. the colors alone...good god, what a production design. but the singers are perfect. if I could get this on DVD, I'd be happy for life.

  • What a shiny voice!

  • She was only 33 here. Damn.

  • She is an absolute beast on this song. I attempted it, actually. Maybe it'll sound like that in.... 10, 20 years....

    I am eternally envious.

  • Brava!

  • What a loss was her too too early death.

  • balls to wall singing love it

  • this womens vioce can cut glass, fanastastic performace!!!!!

  • I agree BikMuscGent. elena

  • She is really great and has very shiny high voice.

  • cool thanks

  • i was just wondering, what is happening during this aria? Is it the 1st or 2nd act?

  • 1st act, and both women's lovers just came back disquised as Turks, and after an unsuccesful attempt to woe the other's bethrothed, Fiordiligi sings Come Scoglio or "Like a rock" and during the aria recites their faithfulness, and constance, also that death alone could change their hearts. She demands respect from the men, and claims again they will not accept the advances.

  • Wow! Chilcott was really a great singer. Her warm and vibrant timbre reminds me Lorengar's Fiordiligi, which is definitely my favourite rendition of this role. She sings with the same creaminess and warmth through a huge range and her expression is always effective and stylish! And she also got a fantastic technique, with no signs of real strain in the whole aria! What a loss to Opera... At least let's keep her memory alive! ;-)

  • Wow... I didn´t know this singer... a great performance... specially for those who nowadays believe this aria was written for a mezzo... Great! Thanks for your uploads!

  • Yes, the Dorabella is Susan Graham.

  • Chilcott is terrific here! What great singing... too bad she is no longer with us. Is the Dorabella Susan Graham?

  • Awesome rendition of this fiendishly difficult aria most sopranos attempt to avoid. Chilcott was an awesome talent!!
