  • BAD ASS!!!

  • потрясающе.... нет слов просто...

  • Every SY song is the best SY song.

  • Unfortunately we're not about to see them together ever again :(

  • today in lima peru.....;)

  • Don't compare Sonic Youth to The Stooges. There is no comparison. The Stooges were a badass rock band. Sonic Youth are a P.C. Noise/Art rock band with a chip on their shoulder. Velvet Underground, yes. The Stooges, no.

  • SY in Paulínia, São Paulo, Brazil, 14 november, omg!!!

  • anyone else think steve shelley is one of the most underrated drummers ever? incredible!

  • SONIC YOUTH IN LIMA - PERU ...10 NOVEMBER ¡¡¡¡¡.....YEAHHHHHHHH

  • Is that the bassist from Pavement?

  • @oooorator Yup.

  • @oooorator Yep

  • At least they will come to Peru, at least, MTF, at least, holy shit! Sonic Youth, forever.

  • REALLY GREAT SONG........¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡....GRETTINGS FROM PERU ¡¡¡¡

  • wooww great song I was listening many times in 99.1 FM DOUBLE NINE . LIMA PERU

  • Wow this song makes me feel good. Good like I haven't felt in a long time...

  • Unquenchable Sonic Youth LOVE THEM

  • great!great!!great!!!great!!!

  • Saw them at Bonnaroo 2006. One of the best experiences of my life.

  • They're still in a class all their own.

  • Anyone know that kind of 'resonating' effect lee is using... I think it's a pedal.

  • @timbotones24794 It's called 'Antenna Box', it's a custom delay built for him by Matt Zivich

  • I love Thurston's Jazzmaster...need to pick it up one of these days.

  • Fantastic! How intelligent and how sophisticated!

  • Don't know why everytime I hear Sonic Youth just wanna get high... laid... By people of earth...

  • why do i have the sudden urge to bone kim?

  • @garciahouse8 Post-menopausal women are the best.

  • I love how languorous this version is

  • Ibold!

  • Still can't play after all these years, which keeps them interesting. Knob twizzlers, like MBV.

  • She's far away :)

  • this song sounds like a pavement song

  • ultra cool.

  • Analog delay is a very fun way to spend an afternoon making noise, you can sort of recreate that sound with an MXR Carbon Copy.

  • reminds me a lot of the velvet unerground and how much i love them... super nostalgic... instantly

  • 3 Fender Jazz Master is like an abusse!

  • @Martinfour

    Two Jazzmasters and one Jaguar.

  • @Martinfour Kim Gordon is using a Jaguar!

  • what effect is he using at the beginning?

  • @guitarelio Delay pedal.

  • @guitarelio A custom-made delay pedal. It's called the Antenna Box.

  • (I was being a smartass) :)

  • what i like most about sonic youth is that they're real and they "get it" and what i mean by that is that they understand melancholy, angst, depression hopelessness etc. which is how i felt as a teen. they understand me :)

  • awesome

  • Marc Ibold

  • This song is much more powerful on the record. Oh well, there's nothing like live performances anyway.

  • por alguna rason, me recuerda a jimmy eat world

  • @ISAAC7DG jimmy eat world estaban en pañales cuando sonic youth ya era leyenda underground.... dah! nada que ver! 1981 a 1994??? más de 10 años de diferencia...!!! BUUUU!

  • Nice long legs

  • Anyone know the pedals lee is using?

  • @maxhampshire I know he's using that one pedal that does that one thing

  • @brw0044 The pedal does one thing when used by guitarists. It can do 199 other things when used by Sonic Youth.

  • @maxhampshire search "sonic youth gear guide" on google. i think the site is called "sonic youth gearology", everything is there, guitars, amps, pedals - you name it

  • oh lord how i LOVE THIS BAND

  • This live version is pretty good too. /watch?v=LXkBIbVgQUs

  • Ace.

  • bravo

  • wao!

  • Hey, does anyone know if there is a prequel to "Corporate Ghost"? I want a collection of all their early videos and I heard there was one...just wondering. THANKS.

  • @MajestaBuck Let me know if someone lets you know :)

  • @MajestaBuck Screaming Fields of Sonic Love VHS

  • @electricorganic Thanks, man! Or lady! :) :) Is it on DVD? It probably is...

  • @MajestaBuck

Not to my knowledge. There was a little note on the "Corporate Ghost" DVD box that said there was a pre-Geffen collection forthcoming, don't think it's materialised.

  • Forever young!

  • Beautiful - it's all about the guitars.

  • the one that said sonic youth went

downhill with this album hasn't hear this

    piece of beauty ...

  • @0MartinTube0 hahaha

  • sonic youth study youthology and stayed forever youth :)

  • the masters of beautifully controlled noise.

    they never disappoint ;]

  • fuckin great!!!

  • 3:06 --> How I love when they do that with their guitars

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, they are truly gods among men.

  • What the fuck? Thurston looks about 20 years old, yet is 51 in this. Holy. Shit.

  • @ktrel54

Thurston doesn't age... he's the Chuck Norris of Anti-aging.

  • Sonic youth is amazing! one of my favourite bands. Probably because of how they evolve creatively, They don't just go into the studio and record the same sound as last album. They change it up and play for their sake not the fans.

  • now im thinking they need to add some more guitarists. 7 or 8 would be ideal

  • Música perfeita para curar a ressaca!!!

    We love Sonic Youth

  • What pedal is Lee using?

  • @MyBeardisGood

I've seen a picture of it... it's a non descript black box with a couple of knobs and ''the antenna'' scribbled on it...

  • GREAT BAND FOR SO MANY YEARS

  • Thurston Moore is the youngest looking 50 year old I've ever seen. He looks like he should still have acne or something

  • rock and roll

  • Stunning, creepy this is real music!

  • Ranaldo is freaking crazy hot.

  • I had to explain to a former girlfriend what the attraction to Sonic Youth for me was, she came from the Techno scene and couldn't recognize what I heard in songs like this one and other SY tracks like "Sugar cane", "Little trouble girl" or "Sunday" SY can be 100% noise but they can also come up with very beautiful haunting melodies and apparently not everybody can hear that.

  • @WouterJ Shoulda had her listen to Schizophrenia or Teenage Riot. I've convinced people to at least respect SY with those two.

  • true that.

  • jools holland sempre gravando os melhores... tanks jools! big fan!

  • If you and your pals decide to get together and play some guitars with energy, feeling and abandon and do it for twenty-some years, this is what you may become.

  • lindo

  • the masters of noise rock (no-wave) still got it after all those years, hey. I hope Kurt Cobain could see them from where he is now.....he should be on stage with them, so sad.

  • what's the guitar effect that lee uses in the beginning of the song? what pedal is it?

  • 1980's boss dm3 analog delay. it self oscillates, makes all kinds of sick noises just by maxing out all the switches then playing with the delay time once it's gone nuts.

  • thanks man... thats really helpfull

  • no worries - id never sell mine but our lead guitarist might be going digital if you want one? they're not cheap though, check ebay, one has just gone for £190!!! I guess he might take £150 to avoid the annoyance of using ebay.

  • My boss dd-3 does that too I keep it on my pedal board just for that, dd-20 dosn't lol.

  • I can do it on my EHX Memory boy :)

  • how? i have one

  • same :) its a great pedal isnt it?

  • Cat Powers = hot...Sonic Youth = hottest band ever!

  • Their songs are pure perfection...

  • wow sounds just like the record

  • thats not necessarily a good thing. it shows skill but its nice to hear an alteration in live performances

  • Songs in the key of D fellas. Their tuning seems to be some form of D major. From what I hear there's two open D's and an open F# in there.

Incidentally, why argue the toss about which is the best SY record? Most of them contain moments as great as any other. "The Eternal" has some classic touches, like this song, "What We Know" and my personal favourite "Malibu Gas Station".

They've been flying the flag for awesome alternative - truly alternative - music for decades, never selling out.

  • i thought they sold out in 1991 - they were on MTV and stuff. im kidding of course.

there's no such thing as being a sell out or having integrity - only being a nice person matters.

  • That and creating great music of course. :D

And Sonic Youth have been good folk and made enjoyable records since they started, so they win. ;)

  • @mynameismark25 eh, the signature guitars are pushing it, IMO

  • what?

  • The green Jazzmaster Thurston Moore is playing hereis now sold by Fender as a Thurston Moore signature guitar. Lee Ranaldo has one in blue with Wide Range Humbuckers.

  • @mynameismark25 selling out is being paid to make a record the company wants you to make, not what the band wants to. there is no fucking way these dudes can. listen to "Silver Sessions"

  • sonic youth es sonic youth..no hay descripcion mas exacta...

  • sonic youth is perfect!!!

  • @oroniladob no shit

  • Though this record is probably my least favorite they've done since Murray Street (the first record of their's that I heard and probably my favorite of their recent works), this song kills.

  • I've got they autograph on my guitar!!!!Jeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • shit i want that fx pedal lees using rlyyyy bad

  • me 7!

  • this is the fourth song..it kept playing in my head

    after awhile...

  • god how can kim looks so hot even she's in her 50s?

  • I saw them in concert last night.

She's even hotter in the flesh.

    It's crazy.

  • Magic!!!

  • Great fucking song but i like most Malibu Gas Station that song really rocks

  • Nah. While it's certainly easy to say that the earlier stuff (read: most of their eighties material) is much better, I still enjoy this. I don't think that they should quit just because their old stuff is better.

  • they still have their moments. and that's more than can be said for bands like REM who are just a shadow of their former self.

  • I disagree with you there. I find their new stuff is more melodic and mellow than their earlier stuff. I don't find it regressive at all. To me this sounds nothing like Sister or Daydream Nation or even Experimental Jet Set Trash and No Star. I think they should keep making music as long as they want to.

  • Murray Street was released this decade, and it is a much more complete album than anything released in the prior decade if you ask me. Although their music today doesn't sound like The Sprawl or Catholic Block, it still holds artistic integrity, and I cannot wait for their next release to see what they do next.

  • kim's always beautiful and rocks, right?

  • always sonic youth

  • this is my favorite song from this album

  • can anyone tell me the name of the lady on before them please?

  • Priscilla Ahn. Very brave going between Depeche Mode and Sonic Youth armed only with a Ukelele.

Not the usual weapon of choice and probably a good counter to two bands that spend inordinate effort to prep instruments to get those sounds.

  • @jsbuser How funny that you said that! KMFDM

  • You got that right mate - sneaks his boss dm3 delay self oscillation in nicely. Got one myself but always bend down to twiddle it. Might have to get a little stand like he's got!

  • Thank you.

    Thank you.

    Thank you.

    ...

  • vanessa mae?

  • courtney love

  • kim na guitarra tursthon e steve nos vocais SY super pop.viva sy

  • yeah, i saw them in Paris on sunday! It was amazing.

  • Saw them at the Forum as well! Fuckin mindblowing!

  • amazing i saw them at the HMV forum yesterday it was epic from start to finish

  • im only lisening to it because Alex evans wants me too

  • Just (1h ago) saw them performing in Brussels. Who strokde me was the drummer actually. Didn't know the bloke but God he's good! And sometimes, in all their chaos, they are just pefect. Stunning band.

  • the guitar is like their album...

    rather ripped haha.

  • Holy fuck she is turning me on.

  • Beautiful dissonance! Still one of the greatest bands around.

  • i want kim's guitar so bad.. i love how thrashed it looks. fender jaguar's are the shit. but sonic youth's even better.

  • someone has a stuffy nose

  • sound's good to me.

  • are you kidding? the bass in this is great. if you think the woman in this doesn't know what she's doing look up kim gordon.....

  • The women is not playing the bass, I said nothing about it. All I'm saying is the way she is playing in this is the way people who don't play guitar often play. The way she is picking the strings, the chords she places are by far the simplest in this song, anyone who had 30 minutes of practice could play what she is playing. Maybe she was trying to look like that? She just is not displaying her ability to play the guitar is she can in this video.

  • Well, this is not a speed metal song anyway! i think this simple playing gives the song that sort of naif sound (sorry for my bad english, but this is not my languaje)

  • @cc3814 I get why you'd make such a comment. Doesn't mean she's not good though. It's probably just how she got used to playing the guitar, plus she's playing the upper strings while letting the low E resonant, meaning her arm would have to be out of the way of the top string (hence it looking odd or "amateur" the way she's playing).

Oh and I say low E purely for reference, this is Sonic Youth after all.

  • she's there, she's done it, she's lived it - who cares how she held the twat and strummed the cunt to get there!

  • if you wanna stress about the ins and outs, be a session musician, if you want to pioneer a great fucking band beg steel and borrow from every part of your mind and body and make something that stands out!

  • would have thought a band this old would be shit by now. but they are still pretty damn good

  • anyone know who the artist in the begginning of the clip is?

  • I think she is Cat Power, but I'm not sure

  • whats he tweaking for the intro?

  • nurse was better than daydream nation. in my view

i also loved sister and washing machine!!!!

  • sister and dirty are my favorites.

  • they always have the koolest guitars

  • Search Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson, sounds very similar.

  • Everything sounds like King Crimson to King Crimson fans.

  • @ICHAS3I haha. i knew that part reminded me of something. couldn't place it. thanks...

  • This is one of the best song from the new album. Their music is just amazing, it makes me feel high.

  • they are still 20 years old

the older they get the better songs the make

  • "the eternal" is their best album since "daydream nation" in my not-so-humble opinion.

  • I concur

  • Totally agree. This is stuff of genius!

  • i still love you Kim!

  • Have the Youth turned into the Dead?

  • Kim es sorprendente
