  • brilliant great work!

  • plus bsf compost sucks compared to worm compost

  • Please show us how to build one , it would be much appreciated !

  • thats a pretty sweet video you should do a vid on how to build one of those bins i wouldn't mind making one my self

  • hey man nice one!

how about the liquid produced? what do you do with that? How long has this system running for? paz

  • @lucascorvacho

I have a drain hole with mesh covering it. I haven't been trying to collect it, just letting it drain into the dirt.

The problem is the juice seems to be attracting ants. So I will have to make some changes to that. it has been running about 4 months and is LOADED with grubs. Overall there are some issues with the bin that I will address in a new video soon, and I plan on making an updated version

  • @TheLordHumungus Till the area up--add some red wigglers to the soil, beneath the bin. Mine LOVE it and migrated from their bins to live beneath the soldiers. Or build a worm bin and set your soldiers on top of it.

  • GIve the Black Soldier Fly the mushroom treatment... keep it in the dark and feed it bull sh*t

  • The Black Soldier Fly is also self harvesting, you can set up a collecting cup at the end of the tube where they crawl out of and collect them that way to feed your animals, fish, birds, etc...

  • The Black Soldier Fly once it turns into a fly, it will not eat, but for the next 5 days or so will only reproduce and then die, you can increase the hight of your bin, and add screening to the top side, so the flies that stay in the bin, will be trapped and reproduce in there before it dies.

  • As far as composting, you can setup the Black Soldier Fly bin on top of a redworm bin, so that the waste of the Black Soldier Fly will feed the redworms.

  • @cubaniton74

Yes I have seen data that redworms fed with BSF manure will grow much faster, and they produce their castings faster too.

  • Do you think I could feed the grubs that have harvested themselves to aquarium fish like Arowanas and cichlids? Nice video, thumbs up.

  • @NeonAera

Yeah for sure. Cichlids, oscars, whatever will eat them. Great for feeding to reptiles, birds, too.

  • @TheLordHumungus Cool, thanks for replying.

  • Very Nice! Hopefully you will video on how to make your full size bin. How long did it take to get that many grubs?

  • @OTGNewbie

I populated the bin with a few grubs about 3 weeks ago, and it now seems to have about 10 times as many grubs as I put in it!

When I build a full size bin I intend to model it after the 'bug barracks' at raisesoldierflies . com check out this guy's site, he has a TON of useful info on soldier grubs.

  • @TheLordHumungus i wanna see you test the grubs eating human waste :P

  • Thanks..good info
